With the lack of centers available via trade or free agency, this might have to happen.

ROR seemed to really enjoy playing with Marner. It’ll also still allow you to move Tavares to the wing. I also mentioned multiple times prior to the playoffs starting I’d look into a second line with Marner and O’Reilly together to form a very good defensive line that can do it on both ends of the ice and match up with Tampas top line. O’Reilly’s skating isn’t the best either but it’s definitely better than Tavares’.

I think Nylander is one of the regular/core players that’ll get traded this off-season. This is what I’d try to build/fill in the blanks around.

X - Matthews - X
X - O’Reilly - Marner
Tavares - X - X
X - X - X
Acciari can play Center as well. With Kampf gone, keeping both is a priority imo.

Man, that Murray contract is so spicy.

Would be nice to pick in the first round but it definitely seems like the only way were moving out that contract is moving down again into a later round doesn't it?

Sucks.

I know it’s tough, but I’d make a real push to sign ROR. He would take over that room this year. It’s possible if we get rid of Dubas’ Murray boat anchor.
Building from post 247-
Nylander odd man out up frontnot part of core 4 Matthews/Marner/Tavares/Rielly, personification of the drive by
Brodie odd man out on D- higher cap hit, decent value, and his style is the definition of "defending" rather than checking, expiring contract

For the sake of the model, assume both move for pure futures

Acciari and Schenn signed for 3.5-4m combined, Samsonov for 3.5-4.

Jarncrok-xxx-Acciari

22.7-23.7 in cap space. If you assume 4LW/4C/13F take up a combined 3m, 19.7-20.7 left for 4 spots -1LW/1RW/3C/5D.

Every signing can have term to build some continuity and identity
Nylander/Brodie returns don't have to be futures, could factor into filling the xxx's
D is a bit of a gamble, moving to more of a d by committee approach

I'm more and more convinced that the Nylander extension negotiation will go off the rails very quickly and we're going to see him traded by the TDL.

If leafs dont trade him this summer, they will not trade him at all and he will leave next sumner

Columbus has an interesting collection of young quality players, picks, with some core players that they may look to win now.

Nylander might be appealing, particularly if there’s an extension in place.

Could be a deal around there

Sakic had 12 career playoff games in his first 7 years. McDavid, Stamkos, Ovechkin, Iginla, Bergeron, Barkov, the list is endless. All stuck with their original team. You are the epitome of what Treliving talked against, making change for the sake of change. We're better with our guys.
More whataboutism. It's boring and frankly irrelevant to the topic at hand.

Interesting that we are seeing some bigger trades already before the finals are over.. that doesn’t usually happen.
Wonder if a d-man shakes loose out of columbus

Provorov-Severson
Werenski-Peeke
Bean-Gudbranson
Boqvist
Jiricek

That word has a meaning, and it's not what you're using it for

Peeke could be a good target, but with Babs at the helm and an F group that already has
Gaudreau/Laine/Roslovic/Johnson/Marchenko/Sillinger

I can't see Nylander being a target.

Someone with a steady 2 way C though could probably do some D and young F shopping

They also have 1 other very high end defensive prospect in

Mateychuk

And then 2 nice defensive prospects in

Slozil (might have butchered his name but hes the guy who was 2nd best player on Bedards team)

Ceulmans

They probably dump Bean whose injury prone and not consistent enough

They have an underrated group of young forwards. They are missing a #1 center and a goaltending upgrade, and the rest is really really good. They are probably stuck with Merzlikins as their #1 goaltender though unless Jarmo can pull a rabbit out.

Not sure if Nylander fits since the big need would be a center for them I think. They have a lot of good wingers.

Yeah, I'm surprised that they're making all these moves with such great defensive prospects. Jiricek, to me, may be the best defensive prospect in the league not yet playing full-time.

It's too bad Babs is there because this would be a great team for targetting a d-man (or two) if we're forced to make a trade.

The pressures going to be on Jarmo to win now more so than the future. After signing Johnny hockey to big money, probably don't want to wait for those prospects to develop.

Funnily enough they really should be trying to bring in more forwards

I will say the Leafs should really be talking to them if they are in the mood to trade Jiricek and/or Mateychuk for an upgrade. The problem is that I'm not sure we have what they want. Marner and Nylander don't fit I don't think. Matthews isn't being traded. Tavares is a no go for Columbus of all places.

To Toronto-
Boone Jenner
Kent Johnson
David Jiricek
Andrew Peeke

To Columbus-
Mitch Marner
Nick Robertson
TJ Brodie
28th overall pick

Nothing would make me happier than seeing 88 having to play under Babcock once again, now that’s karma. Also never happen imo…….

Maybe a hockey trade, Jarncrok for Peeke. Each 3 years left, similiar cap hits. Jarncrok was originally a Detroit pick and very much a versatile, hardworking, defensively mindful Babcock type.
