Well firstly I want to say that I just finished eating my hat, cause I posted that he was more of liabilty in face-offs and defensive zone coverage. So for those who read my opinion on the Kadri situation, I am wrong. The kid was beating Vets in face-offs and there is a couple there that are very good (Steckel,McClement and Connolly), and is showing some grit out there with good coverage. Obviously he has offensive vision and soft hands so this could be our #1 centre with Kessel and Lupal. Bozak is a true number 3 centre or the Leafs trade Grabo for goaltending and move Bozak to 2C and have McClem or Connolly at 3C.

In regards to Carlyles comments on Kadri, I think its important to keep in mind the tendancy of the Toronto media to blow quotes out of proportion, hence the balance of critique and approval. If he says Kadri is the best player on the ice, and he goes pointless in the first 3 games or so, the media would have a field day! Kadri knows its up to him, and him alone at this point.

IMO I believe Carlyle did this as a king of "tough love" act to make sure that one good game does not get into the head of Kadri. I have no doubt Randy was impressed he just wanted to keep his confidence as confidence and not turn it into ego.

Coaches can sometimes play mind games with players

Is it better that they take Kadri and instill some doubt in him, in the hopes that he performs better?

Or is it better to heap praise on him and for him to get complacent?

I don't know. It may actually be better to take option 1, because we know Kadri can handle pressure, he also has extreme confidence in himself, that I hope isn't breaking.

Carlyle seems like an honest guy, doesn't he?

Should he not answer the question?

And he did.

I just prefer coaches to handle those things internally. The kid had a solid game. Negatives to the press can give a bad message, whether intended or not.

Like I said, Kadri lets it roll right off his back. Maybe he feeds off it. He has done decent at that so far.

Everyone RELAX! Stop bashing Carlyle, he is not Wilson (thank god) if a player is ready, they will play (ex. Fowler/ maybe Reilly. Maybe not on Saturday but maybe next week. Randy has a very, no one is bigger than the team attitude.

I really like Carlyle's coaching style.

I hated Wilson through and through.

Oh everything he said was true. It's just the way he said it.

"Had a pretty good first period, 3 goals." (mutters 3 powerplay goals). Then gives him some credit.

"His 2nd and 3rd weren't as effective." Of course they weren't.

And even if he didn't have a great 2nd a 3rd, does it really have to be said? If it's a real game, he's easily the 1st star.

Luckily, Naz seems to let this roll right down his back. Maybe that's why they talk about him to the public like that.

It could very well be a way to make sure the 3 goals don't go to his head. He ripped on Rielly a bit, too (not skating enough, droppass back to the point on the PP), but I don't think it's because he didn't like anything he saw from him.

It could very easily could be a motivation tool.

Kads is going to be a great player. I hope he plays on the big team. No need to hold him back, he's a beast and is showing what he can do

The thing I like most about Nazem is that he has matured a lot off the ice. He says the right things, he's committed to being stronger, and he seems to have lost that over-cockiness that he had; he still has swagger though which is great. I think he needs to stick this year.

Agree completely. For me Carlyle just seems to have a everything is fair game attitude, I like that.He has no reason to "hate" Kadri. If he fits the style of on ice play, he gets the job. If not, then it is for a reason. We only need so many Phil Kessel's. Only one puck.

He was asked besides coaches, who is a mentor on the Leafs that he can go to for advice or pulls him aside and offers advice.

After saying the regular politically correct "oh yea everyone's great.." he went on to elaborate that Lupul is particularly a close guy. He pointed out that he was drafted in the same position as him (7th overall) and that he went through many of the struggles and scrutinies that Naz is going through.

I get the feeling that Lupul is going to be an assistant captain here or even THE captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs if things play out right.

Nonis speaks highly of him in this regard and I guess so do the players.

Well then we had better get him signed.

5x8?
6x8?
5x7?
5x5?
6x6?
What's the offer?
