I think the type of coach will depend on the direction the org chooses this offseason. If we move on from some core guys and go a bit younger I see a young new age coach like Vincent come in.

If they double down on the Wheeler/Scheifele group then i see an experienced take charge guy come in.

If they double down on the existing core, it doesn't matter who they hire as coach.

This team needs a bigger shakeup than can be had by hiring any coach. If Chevy doesn't do the shakeup then we need a new GM first. Let him hire his own coach.

I wonder if the Jets should consider hiring someone like Torts to be a motivational speaker

This is their aggregate experience to date, not when they were hired.
Think a better analysis would be at the time of hiring. Cooper for example had no nhl experience, and hasn't given tbl a reason to fire him yet. Same with Brindamour.

I'd be interested in Phil Housley.

Rough go in Buffalo with a horrible team but the league was pretty high on him prior to is first HC job.

We need all new blood in here, it's time. Vincent may be a good coach but he's been in the organisation for a while and i want completely new ideas with this team next season. If Chevy doesn't do this he needs to go as well.

I would be completely fine with Vincent. I think he is a very bright hockey mind, very detail oriented and can articulate in a detailed way what he wants players to do on the ice. He also from what I've seen and heard from him is able to pick apart a players game (knows what he's good at and where he can improve)

He also has a very good report with all the young guys like Perfetti, Heinola, Samberg, Conner, Appelton.

He also showed he could work creativity and get good execution into Maurice's schemes with the Moose. So even if Chevy wants to keep a similar style, Vincent has shown he can innovate within that system. Granted I think he would come up with something much better on his own and should have full reigns on his staff on schemes if he is brought in.

Sign a new coach (whoever the team thinks best can get them over the top) to a one year deal. If team direction isn't headed towards progression with them after the next season, sign Barry Trotz in the offseason.

Vincent isn't in the organization right now though. He's coaching with a different NHL organization getting exposure to new ideas.

The PP is way more successful when JoMo is regularly shooting. It opens up the other plays.
Most good PP's have a PP qb on the halfwall, distributing down low and in the slot, (and being a scoring threat themselves) AS WELL AS a secondary or tertiary qb at the blueline. The player at the blueline also can distribute the puck but definitely needs a good, accurate and heavy slapshot to themselves be a realistic scoring threat. Morrissey seems to have the necessary attributes to succeed at this but hasn't yet grabbed the bull by the horns, so to speak.

Would you have said the same for the Flames last summer?

Based on? He played for Jets 1.0 long before TNSE existed.

No idea if I want Hously or not but he isn't a TNSE affiliated guy.

He coached the IHL Moose. There are other Chipman links but they're not really hockey related so they aren't relevant other than mentioning they exist. So he's not an unknown quantity to TNSE.

Edit: Mixed up Housley and Carlyle. As you were.

Phil housley never coached with the Moose and he certainly never did it in the IHL. The IHL only existed until 2001 and Housley didn't retire until 2003. He coached high school hockey from 2004 until 2013 at which point he became an assistant coach in the NHL.

Yes. In that case, I would have been mistaken. I was also skeptical when they hired Sutter.

Who expected the turnaround they got? I'll bet even Treliving didn't.

Is there another Sutter out there?

You flatter Randy C...

Wasn't Housefly a flat bust when he coached the Isles/ whoever?

I'd really rather see a complete reboot of the org from hockey ops down through the entire coaching staff, and a smart, innovative new-gen coach brought in, but I suspect we see a soft re-tread and little change in the room unless forced.

Yeah, he just needs to be more assertive and not defer too much to Mark.

So what are your thoughts on Morrissey this year, I seem to recall you thinking he was more of a complimentary piece last year.

What type pf role do you envision for him going forward.

I personally am happy with how he's got his game back and the added layers he's added to it. I still think ideally he is your number 2 dmen but he's done well carrying the defense this year. Its the other dmen outside of DeMelo who have let the team down imo. Well that and the bad defensive schemes employed.
