Torts would be a good candidate, he's like the anti-Maurice in that he can't stop himself from constant line-juggling and stirring up crap and drama, while throwing people under the bus in front of media. Where he aligns with Maurice is that he actually seems like a very good guy and is well spoken and charismatic. As an added bonus he already knows PLD from their time in CBJ. His constant benchings of Scheifele, Connor & Ehlers would also give new guys good opportunities. Go Torts!
:sarcasm:

Seriously though, I know it won't happen, but it would be interesting to see a new-to-NA but accomplished coach like Gronberg or Jalonen. I was rooting for CBJ to go for that after Torts, but instead they promoted their assistant to head coach. I think it's an even more unlikely move for Jets because they are in phase where they are striving to contend right now, so it seems pretty certain they'll just recycle one from the clubhouse of NHL coaches unless they think they already have their guy in house.

I would like to see a fresh (to Jets at least) face ASAP though, I think big part of the new coach boost is having someone from the outside come in and the whole new level of accountability and getting to know players that comes with it. Lowry knows everyone already and has the players figured out and everyone knows him. Of course it might be he seems some things very different to how Maurice did now that he has the full power and responsibility, but we'll see.

It's just that Maurice being gone, promoting Lowry to HC and continuing with the old coaching staff just seems like a half-way measure which might not solve some of the issues that have been plaguing the team for years.

Why did we keep Lowry for the year. This isn't Florida where team was good and coach left in the Chicago scandal/ So we have been awful for a while now going back to last year regular season, being outplayed in 3 Edmonton games and still winning and than Montreal disaster. So Maurice resigns was about to get fired and we remain status quo?

We are a couple more losses from going into tank mode....I see no reason to bring in a new coach right now if the right move is going to include a mini blow up starting in two weeks......Organization is in a tough spot right now

Not quite there yet......but yes its getting real close. On the positive side we've got a major talent in Shane Wright in the draft, plus a top 5 or so that look really, really good. And a few expiring guys we can move for significant returns (Stastny, Copp, even Beaulieu)

Obviously it is Lowry's ship to sail for the season. If he sinks the boat then I belive we will see a major shakeup both on and off the ice. If he is successful I fully expect him to get the job. If he doesn't, my top 3 candidates are:

1. Jim Montgomery - former head coach in USHL, NCAA and Dallas Stars- currently an assistant with the Blues- had some peronal issues/demons that he has dealt with and now back on track. Briefly played with the Moose and would likely love another shot as an NHL HC. He is in a pretty comfortable spot with the Blues as his wife is from St. Louis so he may choose family over an HC opportunity but HC jobs only come around so often.

2. Todd Woodcroft - familar with the organization - currently the head coach at the University of Vermont NCAA, also an assistant coach with the Swedish National mens team for the upcoming Olympics

3. Barry Trotz - one can dream can't they? his resume speaks for itself. If availabl he would be top of my list.

Copp 1st or 2nd
Stastny 3rd
Beaulieu 6 or 7

That's a very significant return.

But as I said, we aren't there yet.
