Who will be named our new HC?

  • Vincent

  • Lalonde

  • Muller

  • Arniel

  • Julien

  • Carberry

  • Montgomery

  • Brunette

  • None of the above

Hypothetically if the Jets wanted Pascal Vincent this offseason they would have to seek permission from CBJ right?

Do teams ever deny other teams permission? Is that bad business in the NHL?

Typically coaches have clauses that let them pursue roles with higher titles without issue. If the Jets were to ask in season I think Columbus can probably decline to let him interview though.

Anyone of Tampa's assistants would be interesting. Surely they must have learned something from Cooper.

So who are the pie in the sky options? Preferably answers that have some basis in reality, I doubt Jon Cooper's getting fired any time soon

Is it Trotz for most?

You want pie in the sky...

There is a coach out there that Chevy already has a history with, who has won 3 Stanley Cups, and his last name starts with the letter "Q"...

The Jets head coaching position should be highly desirable given the quality of the team and franchise. Yes, I think waiting until the offseason to have access to more candidates is a good idea (and Chevy already said that Lowry will be the interim for the rest of the year).

Bylsma made a lot of very mediocre defensemen look very passable or good at times. Players have been quoted as saying his defensive zone breakouts are complicated and when it goes bad he struggles to make adjustments. Might be too similar to what we already have.

Bylsma's reputation was ruined by his time in Buffalo, but if you look at their record season by season, he got more out of the Sabres than the coaches before or after him.

I think they can't if it's for a promotion

For a mid-season hire? When have we seen assistant coaches plucked away mid-season before? Perhaps it varies by contract.

Yeah, everything points to him being a pretty progressive coach too. Always trying to learn and adapt or at least that's how he seems to describe himself. I've seen people saying that when his systems are working they work well, but when they're figured out they're too complicated to unravel and that's when he tends to fail.

Off season

Lane Lambert (Trotzs assistant)or Nate Leaman (NCAA) or Rickard Gronberg

Seriously top 3 in my opinion

If the Isles crater Trotz may not survive this offseason. We'll see, you never know how Lou will do things.

Anyone have time to create a list of available or possible options this summer based on comments in this thread?

I like Gallant, but he’s already employed.
Same goes for Trotz, but if the Isles crap out the rest of the season, that might change.

Having a hard time thinking of even 2-3 options that are interesting out there. Happy we moved on from PMO, but not excited by most options out there

Problem is, there aren’t really any promising available options right now… likely part of the reason Lowry was given the season to show what he can do.
Things will change in the offseason, both in the NHL and AHL.
There’s also European league options and maybe a proactive diversity option of an ex-pro female HC

I'd go for Trotz too.

The guys who are currently unemployed don't really excite me. It's probably best to wait until the offseason to increase your candidate pool.

I grew up with hard nose coaches who put accountability above everything and I want to see a HC that will bench Wheeler, Scheifele, or whoever if they don’t put forth their best effort.

Trotz would be amazing but that's not happening anytime soon. As for it being less desirable to come here because of COVID I don't agree solely on the fact that COVID is still way worse in the states in term of infection rate, vaccination, etc.

I was thinking more along the lines of restrictions rather than infection rates.

But wow, it actually happened!
