Nazem Kadri - Part 3

Kadri remains second line center, no questions asked. It would be a backwards regime to move him back to 3rd line center, he's evolved past that already. Raymond-Bolland-Kulemin is an excellent third line anyway, possibly one of the best in the leauge if played to potential, especially if Bolland and Raymond find their chemistry from earlier this season. To clear up the arguments earlier in this thread, the Leafs center depth went Bozak-Grabo-Kadri last year for around the first 15-20 games, after that mark Kadri took over second line duties and Grabo was struggling badly, and Kadri took the spot and ran away with it to say the least.

As for the second line, just chill out people, it will all be fine. Lupul WILL find his game eventually, and that line will look better than other teams' first lines. I'm so excited to see this team firing on all cylinders, even Boston and Pittsburgh will be scared of facing us!
Agreed with 100% here. Some people here dont want to face the bruins again. I would welcome a first round matchup with them again

Kadri doesn't have to be a big point producer to help the team win.

Ask the Gold Medal winners what is more important, being the highest scorer in the game or bringing home the prize?!

I mean come on....reallly? The kid has done everything asked of him; producing points, back checking, physical, strong possession game, improving on face-offs, and people are still making stuff up to try to justify putting him on the third line, or traded. Even going as far as saying that he will no longer improve at 23 (before you say this you might want to look at Bozak's season at 23-24), and that he is done. It is clearly apparent now that some just have blind hate towards Kadri. Not sure if it has to do with skin colour (like the racist Olympic tweets towards PK Subban), but this is getting ridiculous. So disappointing as a fan of this team, to see our young player go through this. But even through all of it, every time his name has been run down, he keeps repeating that he needs to continue to work hard and get better; not letting it get the better of him. What a class act.

Yes, it's like people writing off the Oilers where their top 6 players average age is less than Kadri's age.

People are just too impatient to call someone a star or a bust.

Edmonton has the most talented top 6 in the NHL. Or as I was reminded this summer on the main board, more talented than Toronto's.

It probably is more talented. The problem is they're the worst defensive top 6 in the league and probably the softest as well.

I was even advocating to trade kadri so i dont have to deal with some of the nonsense that is said here about him

You are a young hockey fan Mike, I like your loyalty, I like your passion for the Leafs. You have a lot of potential as a hockey poster.

But I have been around since the 70's. Got some years of experience under my belt. There is more to being a #1C than stick handle in a telephone booth skills. Again, skill is not defined by just one skill, offence. What wins is well rounded players, players that can play all facets of the game.

The Game has evolved, this isn't the 80's of fire wagon hockey, where the Oilers outscored everyone to their Stanley Cups.

Some of the young hockey fans should take a lesson from how Team Canada played this Olympics. This is the type of hockey and players you need to be effective.

Kadri has a ways to go, he took a big step fwd last year, he is taking steps fwd and backward this year. Given a choice between he and last year's #2C, Kadri is an easy choice. But he is still a work in progress. We do not know what the final outcome he will be as a finished product.

The cautionary tale here, is as I said for Gardiner last summer, to much resistance on this board. We don't know what Gardiner is also. When most disagreed with me rather vociferously, now more agree. Let's give Kadri some time to see what we have before some posters declare he is Toronto's best Center.

This sounds like Darcy Tucker critiquing Nazem Kadri.

Impressive, the Leafs need to be patient with Kadri.

Ask the Gold Medal winners what is more important, being the highest scorer in the game or bringing home the prize?!

I've been thinking to myself lately about whether or not that Gold Medal win could actually have some ramifications back in the NHL. The whole world just watched a dramatically blatant and undeniable display of how defense and selfless play wins championships. It made them totally unbeatable.

That has to have inspired a lot of players throughout the league to buy in to the same mentality. How could it not?

I had a bet with my Kadri-hating friend at the start of the season for a case of beer that Kadri gets 45+ points this season (min 60 games, pro-rated to 82 games). I need 2 points in the next 22 games to lock in the win. Think I'll be okay.

i take torontos top 6 over edmontons 10/10 times. the only advantage edmonton has is age but its not like torontos top 6 is old.

jvr-bozak-kessel
lupul-kadri-kulemin

vs

eberle-nuge-hall
perron-gagne-yakupov

kessel = hall
jvr = eberle
bozak < nuge (in future, right now i think bozak is the better player)
lupul > perron
kulemin < yakupov (but yak is a nightmare defensively)
kadri > gagner

Kadri doesn't have to be a big point producer to help the team win.

That makes no sense. Kadri is an offensive player, of course we need him to produce.

Need to upgrade Kads RW this summer. Someone with speed, willing to hit and a decent set of hands.

That makes no sense. Kadri is an offensive player, of course we need him to produce.

Maybe Kadri can trade some of that offence for more defence, and we can win like Team Canada did, or like LA Kings did with Mike Richards.

Much lower points totals in LA, but better team results.

Spot on.

Team results trump individual results or there is no I in team.

Players must do what is best for the team to win not themselves.

You like the results of the Americans then.

Good offense.

Flawless logic, Ulf.

Kadri is an offensive weapon so let's Grabo him is what you guys want? when we should just let Kadri play his game. He'll get better as he gets older.

Team > Player

Leafs have been Leafs my entire life, and many, many players have been rented in that time.

Did people not understand what happened on the weekend?

Clear for some it isn't about winning, it's about their favorites padding personal stats.

Kadri

2012-13 .. 48 games 18-26-44 points & +15
2013-14 ...56 games 15-26-41 points & -9

Kadri got older and moved up the line-up and even played with Kessel and JVR on the top line and his point totals went down.

Most importantly as a 3rd liner in 2012-13 he was +15 and now he is -9 that is a -24 goal differential while he has been on the ice.

Leafs we better when Kadri was better.
