great post by araisarena
great story, as heista mentioned
he has improved every call up
nonis was on the radio, yesterday, and said "we are not interested in trading young players for veterans"
hopefully this puts loungo rumors to rest, atleast for us
remember wilson, just never liked kadri
carlyle wanted him to stay, but really didn't have a choice
IMO, kadri makes the team, plus has a good future with leafs

Lupul - Bozak/Conolly - Kessel
MacA - Grabovski - Kulemin
JVR - Kadri - Frattin

that is the second line that I want
with grabo as the centre

Definitely. Carlyle is an extremely smart coach. He will surprise people with some line-up decisions, and I will be very happy. It's about time we use his elite talent and highlight reel material.

Lupul - Bozak/Conolly - Kessel
MacA - Grabovski - Kulemin
JVR - Kadri - Frattin

Kadri is a set-up man, so a shooter Frattin example, seems to be ideal.

Two Leafs have scored 30 or more goals in the NHL, one of these may need more defensive support than the other.

If Kadri is traded this will go against everything the fan base and management swore they would never support and repeat from past days. Giving up on prospects for older guys that will only come in and perform for a couple of years is not the way to go. Kadri has done everything that has been asked, was the best player in the 09 training camp but was sent down and crushed, asked to go to juniors and dominate, did that. Asked to make the world junior team and be among their best forwards, he started out as the 13th forward and found his way on the top line and won silver and put up 8 points in 6 games being the third best forward after Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle. Went deep into the playoffs in junior. Asked to get stronger and put on weight, which hindered his 2010 camp, so was sent down and asked to dominate in the AHL, did that. Called up to a struggling Leafs team and asked to provide a spark while only playing 10 minutes a night. 2011 camp was asked to get leaner and faster and that there would be a spot for him, gets hurt, loses his spot to Matt Frattin whom while I like, wasn't producing. Asked to stay in the minors and dominate while waiting for a call up, did so, scores 3 goals in 4 games, cools off in the next 7 or 8 games, only receiving 10-12 minutes of ice time in which Matthew Lombardi and Tim Connolly taking up his minutes with little to no offensive output and gets demoted. Sent down and asked to keep playing hard work on some things and promises the kid a call up. Carter Ashton gets on the team at the deadline, and with one call up left for the team to use, call up Carter Ashton over Nazem Kadri who was blazing in the AHL having 11 points in his last 6 games only to see Carter Ashton in 10 games provide no points averaging 14 minutes a game on the first line with a -10. Nazem gets called up for two games with the emergency recall in which he scores a goal and provides the shootout winner. Now asked to get stronger and leaner this summer, Kadri decides to take matters into his own hands by working with Gary Roberts who does charge his players roughly $15,000 for a summer workout program I know because one of my buddies is apart of bio steel, only to be told he has among the highest body fats on the Toronto Marlies which is happens to be one of the fittest and fastest teams in the AHL, starts of slow, gets benched, finds his game and takes the league into his hands and is at a point per game pace doing everything he has been told and removing the deficiencies in his game for example the neutral zone turnovers, inconsistent defensive play, and bonehead penalties, only to be possible trade bait for a 34 year old declining goalie? If he does get traded, I hope he terrorizes the Leafs every couple of months the Canucks play the Leafs, because this is the same sad story with Boyes, Rask, Neidermayer, the list goes on. This kid has everything you can want in a prospect, the hands, the shot, the vision, playmaking ability, was a leader in Kitchener was a leader in London is a young leader with the Marlies, is always among the best players on the ice wherever he goes, is an offensive spark plug, dynamite on the powerplay and always made the Leafs powerplay better when he was called up, has the speed, seriously what more does the fanbase and brass want from a guy? He is young, he'll be inconsistent, he'll occasionally do take out, he'll have the odd beer, but who are we to scrutinize every little thing this kid does when all he does is follow everything asked of him to do.

You absolutely nailed it.

The problem with your whole rant is that it implies that every time Kadri played in the NHL, he looked good. He didn't. He never looked ready. He spent half his NHL time getting up off the ice or chasing down his own giveaways. He was not good on the powerplay. His highlights were shootout goals. A guy like Frattin wasn't better offensively but was physically ready for the NHL, Kadri was not.

You CANNOT be a competitive Hockey Team with both Grabo/Kadri down the middle of your roster.

I don't think he's a 3rd Line Defensive Specialist - I don't think thats why he was drafted and I don't think thats his game. Asking him to do it is just a waste of potential.

There is simply nowhere on this roster for Kadri to play and be effective.

I love Kadri but honestly at this point I could see him traded for Luongo especially if his training camp isn't good enough to put him on the top 6 or at least 3rd line. I do think they will take a look at him in camp before making their decision though.

I think it will be announced Sunday. I think the high asking price included kadri

JVR Grabo Kulemin
Lupul Bozak Kessel
Frattin Kadri MacA
Brown McClement Komorov

Lombo
Connolly
Stekel

Gotta go

How is physical fitness to play in the NHL measured? How often you are injured? height? weight? He's 6'0 190. He dishes out hits in the american hockey league on a consistent basis in a league that is on par with the NHL when it comes to size and physicality. The game in the american hockey league is a slower game meaning physical fitness and being able to take a beating is imperative or you will get hurt. Kadri is ready. Period. Sad to see his readiness likely won't be with Toronto.

I think he's recovered from his last injury, but might not be completely back to speed.

Lot of NHL teams today role 3 offensive lines and a fourth line thats defensively conscience and can kill penalties. If Nazem has a good camp, Carlyle won't BS the kid, he'll find a spot. I think he'll outplay Connolly and Lombardi.

If we're using AHL production to judge, then Kadri is unquestionably a blue chipper who has earned a spot on the roster. He's producing at the same pace as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Brayden Schenn, Nino Niederreiter, Brett Connolly, Gustav Nyquist, and Mikael Granlund. And on a BETTER pace than Mika Zibanejad, Jacob Silfverberg, Sean Couturier, Charlie Coyle, Zach Kassian, Magnus Paajarvi, Jaden Schwartz, and Sven Baertschi.

I'm sure they need to see him at NHL camp however to make a proper assessment.

Excellent point...
Lets also not forget he's still only 22!
completely unfair that he's being labelled as a bust by a lot of people already.
Not every top 10 pick is going to rip it up as an 18yr old
trading Naz at this point would be a mistake

I don't see a lot of people calling him a bust.

I see more people letting him develop without trying to rush evaluation.

Yes, some people see him as a bust, but others see him as a great player, when neither is accurate.

He's a prospect, who is developing nicely.

I think Burke and Nonis gave Kadri a lot of credit and chances where many other GMs might not have done so.

I don't understand where all the OPs points come from...

To me, Burke and Nonis have been consistant on wanting their picks to have time to properly develop in the minors before getting called up to the bigs. Even when things looked like he wouldn't pan out as the franchise centre fans had assumed he would be, Burke and co. still never gave up on him.

Can't understand where you get the impression they had a conspiracy complex to keep him down and out...

3 Offensive lines are great.

Were still too weak down the middle.

Were still too weak in general - Weakest top9 in NHL IMO

I wish more people would read this. We would be foolish to deal away Kadri right now, before he has even been given a legitimate chance in the NHL.

Will Nazem Kadri have a future with the Leafs?

Kadri is a genius, with an INDIVIDUAL personality. Burke and Nonis seem to have given him quite a hard time pretty much from the moment he arrived on the scene. Both of them like players that are complete yes men and company men. Kadri marches to a bit of a different beat. From what I've heard, he likes cigars, good food. Heck, all the **** most successful people like.

He is not a natural washboard stomach, and doesn't fret about it. Burke, Nonis and Eakins want flat stomached guys with a great attitude towards fitness. That side of Naz seems to have turned a corner.

So ask yourselves a question. If he was so hopeless would Gary Roberts take him on? No way. The Kid's got something but the question I'm asking is simple:

Do you believe Nazem Kadri has a future with the Toronto Maple Leafs?

This is classic Leaf organization, ruining a prospect. Look at what they did to Schenn. Its happening again, in a different way. This is an organization that is horrible, and has been horrible, for 40 years, at DEVELOPMENT.

So,in your opinion the Leafs ruined Schenn by letting him play on the big club and ruined Kadri by playing him in the minors.Does that mean Schenn should have played in the minors for awhile the way Kadri has and if so doesn't playing for the Marlies improve Kadri's development.

How many more years do we give this kid a chance. Its been 3 years and this will be his 4th. When do you toss in the towel?

There has to be a good intermediate between the two. You don't rush them nor bury them in the minors when they have been playing better than some players already on the roster.

I agree that Kadri needed time to develop but he SHOULD have been on the roster last year full time.

When he actually gets a chance? You know like other guys like Frattin and Gardiner did?

The guy has proven to be able to score at the AHL level. He's shown spurts at the NHL level(he'll come up and score right away) but then we always send ihm down after 10-15 games.

GIVE him at least half-most of the season with the team. He needs to get used to NHL competition.

given you're logic you could give up on brayden schenn too, guy scored 18 points last year in 53 games, same draft.

What do you mean my logic? I simply asked when do the Leafs pull the plug on the kid. Its his 4th year to try and crack the line-up, which he hasnt been able to do yet, so when does TML management trade him. Schenn has had injuries and been traded, so you cant compare the two. Schenn is also on the Philly roster and contributed in the play-offs. Kadri hasnt done anything to make the roster. The kid needs more work, plain and simple.
