I'm alright with the Leafs trading Kadri (obviously if the price is right). For D help would be nice.

Just hope if he is gone that doesn't mean Babcock uses Nylander is #3 C, He and Matthews are both way better when they play together.

If minor suspensions drive you this far up the wall, I can only imagine how injury prone players like Matthews must irk you.

Well the thing about imagination is that it’s all made up and all in your head.

I’d prefer not to discuss made up stories in your head.

Yup, last thing we want is having a $7M player put in a position to have lead a line and elevate his teammates.

Look how Kadri's production dropped being a 3rd line C on this team. Why put another player in that position ?

You honestly don't think Nylander should play with Matthews ?

  1. So you don't believe Nylander could drive a line better than Kadri? Wouldn't the whole "centre depth" strategy be even stronger with a Tavares-Matthews-Nylander line up?
  2. I think everyone should play with Matthews, he inflates their offensive stats.

Not every player can drive their own line. Take a look at guys who make the same amount (Forwards at 6.5-7).

Max Pacioretty
Evander Kane
James van Riemsdyk
William Nylander
Patrice Bergeron
Ryan Kesler
Johnny Gaudreau
Nicklas Bäckström
David Pastrnak
Paul Stastny
Derek Stepan

Do every one of those guys drive their own line ? I would argue maybe 1 or 2 of them.

Matthews did bring up Nylander's numbers, but I'm sure Nylander brought up Matthews numbers a bit too.

Nylander creates way more quality scoring plays then the guys that played with Matthews this year.

An elite talent like Nylander should dominate 3rd line opponents, it would almost be unfair.
Why wouldn't any Leaf fan want that?

Kadri hate is strong here.

One cannot defend his suspension. But to me Kadri is the heart of the team. Plays with the most passion. I love him on our team and would be very upset if he is traded.

In my opinion the team is better when those 2 play together.

When they play together The Leafs basically have 2 first lines. Very dangerous for any team playing against them.
If the Team leaned on two lines, I'd agree.
When the ice is spread between 3 lines the skill needs to be spread.

Nylander is certainly better with Matthews, no doubt there.

Ok, Nylander cannot drive his own line. Glad we finally got that settled

Actually Matthews' PPG was slightly higher this past season when he spent less time with Nylander.

Anyway....this is a Kadri thread. As always, if trading him (or anyone) is better for the team overall, then you do it.

Kadri for Pesce+
Z to Canucks for Chris Tanev or Virtanen or a bag of pucks
Send Marleau to left coast for a couple of passes to Disney
Send Brown to the Oil for Kassian
Sign Brandon Tanev as your #3C to play with AJ or Moore and Kappy
Sign Ferland to play with #34 and #29
Look for a better option than the Goat for #4C.
Resign Hainsey as your #3 RHD.

Dreaming?? Maybe.

One last note, I'm not saying he cannot drive a line, I just don't think he necessarily has to (many of those comparables likely can, but aren't played that way). Just do what's best for the team, which in my opinion is to play him with Matthews.

Yes, we can agree with that, sorry for taking it off the rails.

I totally agree about trading Kadri, return is key, make the team better.

I totally get how you feel, I used to feel exactly the same way. I still like all those things about Kadri but I would only be upset by a trade if we didn't get good value back for several reasons:

He has 3 years left on his contract, still attractive but not nearly as attractive as it will be next summer when he only has two years left and his value will keep declining as we get closer to the end of that contract.

He's maybe not as important to the team as he was a year ago because of his reduced role.

If we can't count on him to be available when it counts the most, perhaps we need a new "heart" anyway.

He's at that age where you start thinking about a decline anyway. Does it start happening this year, next year, 2-3 years from now or has it started already? This is always a consideration and if we trade him just before the decline kicks in then that's obviously a good thing.

I'm not one of those people that hates him or says we have to trade him. I can see good reasons to consider it though more than ever before, I'm more open to it than ever before and if we don't trade him, I know I'll be very afraid of how he behaves in the playoffs next spring, especially if we face Boston again (seems likely). All I can say is if we do keep him, we better take all the steps we can to prevent a repeat suspension and I ask the same questions I've asked before - did we take these steps during the last 12 months, if not then why not and if we did, then how can we possibly count on them working now when they didn't work before?

As much as I love the guy and have also thought of him as the heart of the team, I also know that no one player is critical to success and if he leaves, there absolutely will be life after Kadri.

Kadri for Pesce+ is probably dreaming, don't see why Carolina needs to add. I'd do Kadri for Pesce in a heartbeat.

No one hates Kadri.
Moves will have to be made and he seems to be one that may be moved.

Kadri hate is strong here.

I don't know if I would use the word hate, but he definitely makes too many boneheaded decisions to keep around, and his skills have noticably dropped lately.

I just think right now, with his contract, he is more valuable as tradebait than as a member of our roster.

That's not true. Matthews slightly bested the year priors numbers. It's Willy who fell off a cliff. Connor Brown scored 20 with Matthews too

I don't hate him, but he's shown again and again that he can't be relied on.

Things get tough in the playoffs, and he can't control himself. I'd rather have a lesser player on Defense who can contribute than have Kadri suspended and force Nylander to play center.
