This seems suspect. If they're independent contractors holding a contractor-only meeting then how is that relevant to an anti-trust case against the Tour itself? No Tour rep was even present.

Imagine being an employee of a big box retailer and having a workers or union meeting to discuss improving work conditions so they're closer to other retailers, and then having lawyers for the other retailers suing to find out what you talked about in your private meeting.

Preposterous.

If I'm Woods or McIlroy I'm having my lawyers fight the subpoena.

Seems like corporate espionage rather than a real legal complaint.

Two more drop off, LIV climbs aboard.

Seeking punitive damages sure seems like an attempt to damage the PGA Tour rather than just competing and moving on.

Horschel shoots back at Westwood and indirectly at Norman:

LPGA does 54 holes. So does the Champions Tour. Every golf club in the country has shotgun start events and team events.

I mean if you’re following along….it was the Tour who made issue with the LIV format, shit all over it, questioning integrity of competition, then they go out and suggest a similar format for their own events.…..quite comical.

again only to offer a similar carrot to potential defectors, no other reason

Just my opinion - but there’s apparently an ample supply of moronic multi-millionaire professional golfers who believe the Saudis can make life better for them and their families. You have to be pretty f***ing ignorant of how they operate to think that, and Allah help you if you don’t understand that they think they own you. Just ask Khashoggi how it turns out to think otherwise. And the golf product they’re offering sucks.

Does that mean the PGA doesn’t need some fresh thinking? No it surely does not. This FedEx playoff thingy is just ridiculous. Why not have a Match Play Tour Championship featuring the top 64 or top 128 players, like the US Amateur. Tons more drama and story lines. Instead you have this silly thing where the Tour Championship starts out with someone 10 under without playing a shot.

Notwithstanding how stale and out of touch the PGA hierarchy is, it still baffles me that there are people suggesting that the Saudis are trying to do something for golf. The Saudis don’t do anything unless it’s for the monarchy, and the cynicism behind the lie that they’re just trying to “grow the game” is just gross.

Spot on.

How many of us are actually watching the LIV events?

The FedEx Cup or playoff or whatever is a stale remnant of the NASCAR craze. They were trying to copy that Winston Cup points model and now they're saddled with it. Instead of doing away with it entirely they keep trying to fix little parts but we all know it's lame.

Match play definitely the way to go, which is a throwback to the old PGA Championship, later revived in WGC Match Play.

The problem with Match Play is you get some snoozer matchups late in an event and it tanks it….

Hard pass on that for the finals, but maybe one event in the playoffs…

Use the first 3 rounds to get to an Elite 8 of sorts and then match play from there. Chances of flukey shitty matches is much lower.

Or if you want 4 days with one round per day per player go with 16 and stagger the start times to spread out the coverage more. Make the consolation match for 3rd place more interesting somehow on Sunday.

I see people on Twitter pining for the playoffs to be determined via match play all the time, yet the same people forget that the WGC Match Play is one of the worst events on the calendar.

Very very quietly the O’s went down to the home of the best team in the AL and took 2 out of 3 “playoff style” games. Wow.

Tampa and Seattle just keep winning, so even though the O’s have taken 3 straight series from really good teams, they are not getting closer to the final WC slot.

Tampa is still 3 up, Seattle is 2.5 up, and the nemesis Toronto is 1.5 up. Damn.

Looks like Toronto may be the only team they can catch, due to all of the head to head games.

Tough sledding
