OT: Nats, Wiz, O's, Ravens, Terps, Navy, Gtown, Mystics, Golf, Summer 2024 (Paris Olympics 2024 as well)

Sorry Wiz.

Wowah... When the tv rights expired a few years ago I thought that Teddy might just start their own sports network but instead re-upped with CSN with a stake so now this makes a bit more strategic sense. Ted making a move on the Nationals now is a bit more intriguing if he ended up as one of the official bidders.

Is Waverly Woods worth the drive from NoVa? And has anyone played Swan Point lately. Used to love that course, but it's a haul and I hear that it's not being kept up and has serious drainage issues.
I didn’t see Worthington Manor on your list. Definitely a good track. On the other side of Frederick is Musket Ridge and Maryland National. I didn’t see PB Dye on your list either if you feel like punishing yourself. It’s usually in good shape but it is hard. I think Pete Dye’s son felt he had something to prove with that one.

Laurel Hill in Lorton is a great track also.

Played Challedon a few times over the years. It's ok, a few wacky holes. There are some hilarious google reviews recently.

If playing out near the Moco parks and rec courses maybe try Blue Mash.

I've played about half those moco courses. Little Bennett is indeed very sadistic. Played it maybe 15 years ago. from the tips in a howling 20+ MPH wind and 50* temps to make matters worse. Horrible score I can't recall. Punishing course.

Played 18 this morning for 3 over and again no birdies. Only 7 or 8 GIR so a lot of scrambling from just off the green. Feels bad.

Leaves are starting to be a problem already.

Waverly is great. Very well-kept and managed. They aerated last week so maybe give it another week or two.
3 0ver with no scoring…..not too shabby…..wish I had the time to play you do (and your game)!

PB Dye was on there. Play it pretty regularly. It’s a great track. Some friends of mine hate all the blind shots, but they’re OK with me. Played Worthington once and liked it - will go back. Played Maryland National a couple of months ago in 30 MPH winds, so didn’t get a fair assessment of the place. Also loked Laurel Hill, but it requires a trip down 95, which is a tough sell

Why is that a yes? We got a 50/50 shot for the Nats being good (Caps) or bad (Wiz) if Uncle Teddy buys the team.
Because

A: he's a known quantity. Bird in hand ... Look at the local NFL ownership to see how bad some can turn out. Ted's not that.
B: he has shown that he's willing to spend the money to field good team. Better than a lot of alternatives around the league.
C: for better or worse, he doesn't appear to meddle or micromanage the team. He hires his GM type, and trusts them. [Yes, you can of course argue that he trusts them too far, and doesn't fire GMs when perhaps he should. But I'd still rather an owner hire people that appear to be good and stay out of their way.]
D: He cares about the fans, at least outwardly. Does that also help his bottom line? Probably, sure. Win-win. See also: Danny boy in Raljon.

FTR, I don't like Ted very much. But he's a lot better than many alternatives around the sports world.

You make a compelling argument but his results as an owner are a bit overrated, IMO. Results wise on the field at least.

He’s a basketball guy primarily, or that’s his passion, and the Wiz are as terrible as they’ve ever been under his ownership. His Michael Jordan experiment blew up in his face and he couldn’t convince Durant to come home after he allowed his GM to clear the decks to make room for Durant. And with the Caps, he’s ridden the ample coat tails of a generational talent to a championship and then let his championship winning coach walk.

Yes he’s a good guy who cares about the city, so his ownership of the Nats wouldn’t be the worst thing that could happen, but then he has a monopoly on 3 of the 4 professional teams in the city, which could impact one or more teams to the benefit of the others, and he owns the local sports network. DC will be all his. I’m a bit leery about that possibility.

You know those could easily be names or scotchs or single malk whiskeys, heh.

Not totally accurate….purchased in 2010…..at their worst under him, they were a 20+ win team…..mid-30’s recently….

Leonsis as an owner would be fine. Better than some of the other names that have been floated around.

He’d be a straight line single up the middle. Nice start to an inning, that could go anywhere. He’s not a home run, but he ain’t a strikeout either.

now 17 events (13 existing + 4 new) guaranteed where the top players will all be playing….

seeing people flip out over Ted Leonsis in contention for Nationals ownership

the wizards are beyond saving

they've been bad since 1979, that's not Ted's fault.

Between the Wiz and Caps Ted has made it past the 2nd round once! Thats not good at all for spending to the max on both teams every season and mostly trying to win each season.

Westwood is similarly less than impressed by the path the PGA Tour is following in response to all that LIV is doing.

“I laugh at what the PGA Tour players have come up with,” he says. “It’s just a copy of what LIV is doing. There are a lot of hypocrites out there. They all say LIV is ‘not competitive.’ They all point at the no-cut aspect of LIV and the short fields. Now, funnily enough, they are proposing 20 events that look a lot like LIV. Hopefully, at some point they will all choke on their words. And hopefully, they will be held to account as we were in the early days.”

Focus on winning your first major, Lee.

I don't think it's about what's competitive in the marketplace or whatever, but what it takes to draw some of these other players back eventually. And retain the ones who think about jumping while still keeping the PGA Tour structure and other traditions in place.

I expect Mickelson to crow about how he was right and the PGA had the ability to pay players more, but what they're doing might be a financial stretch or the product of new sponsorships or fundraising rather than the PGA sandbagging on prize pools.
