LIV Golf is expected to announce seven new signees, including one "long-rumored superstar," according to the report. That could be Cameron Smith, who withdrew from this week's BMW Championship but didn't comment on an earlier report of his departure last week.

Wow 7 more…

This sounds more divisive…

It sounds like he's trying to lure the top players back with more big money events, right? I skimmed.

Feels a bit like the Super League in soccer, only for individuals…..so the top 60 get big guaranteed money and the others get a paycheck loan…..seems fair.

His mission, as a self-appointed shadow commissioner, is to reshape the PGA Tour in a way that enough new money will flow to ensure top players will want to stay, while giving himself a slice of the pie and more of a say in how the Tour operates.

According to a source with direct knowledge of the meeting, Woods and the 15 top players he assembled discussed the formation of a tour-within-the-tour: 18 no-cut tournaments featuring the top 60 players competing for $20 million purses. This basically would be two WGCs per month in the newly condensed January-August schedule.

Such a structure would codify the schism between the tour’s haves and have-mores, with lesser players consigned to lower-wattage tournaments for far less money. (One consolation that was floated at the recent Player Advisory Council meeting is fronting each of the 200 or so tour members $500,000 per year, taken against their winnings.)

Not nearly in the range of some of you guys are but picked the clubs back up after not playing for 8 years or so this summer. Was never any good in the past when I played at 20-25. Now 37 I’m all in as far as golf goes and addicted as hell bought some clubs back in late June and have been at it nonstop. Broke 90 today for the first time ever and was absolutely ecstatic with my 89

The golf bug never goes away. It just lies dormant. Waiting to strike.

Congrats on the 89.

On a side note, in a comforting sense most people don't really care how good or bad other golfers are as long as they keep up and aren't obnoxious.

By that I mean higher cappers who are anxious about how bad they're playing and how they look to the strangers in their group have nothing to worry about. Most golfers are preoccupied with their own games and really only pay enough attention to the other players as is necessary to get to their own next shot without breaching etiquette. Keeping up and not being a dumbass or asshole is all that's required, and if you can crack a few jokes along the way that's a bonus. Actual scoring is irrelevant.

The same goes for better players. Nobody really cares, though others might be impressed with something here or there, or maybe you shoot a low score and you get some compliments, but ultimately all the pressure is internal. Try to be good company for the next 4-5hrs.

I’m constantly thinking about that while playing. Probably playing to fast honesty as I’m always looking over my shoulder to make sure nobody is waiting. Probably why I shot my best round yesterday the course I play is nothing big but just a decent 9 hole course out here, yesterday morning pulled up at 815 am and was the only one on the course until at least 930.

Well that’s a problem if you’re feeling rushed. That’s the absolute worst. I’m a big believer in ready golf. Only in matches do I dial that back some out of respect for the match integrity.

Just know when to pickup IMO.

in general (not at you)…..

If you’re lying 7 and you’re 150 out on a par 5, you’re that guy.

double par at worst and move on and that should NOT be being invoked that often, or….you’re that guy. ;)

It’s the ones that look for a ball for…..ever…..and ever…..and EVER…..when they lie 6 and have been getting dubs and trips all round.

Those drive me nuts. I really don’t care how many swings you take, just don’t spend 15min looking for a ball, and don’t play the greens like it’s the PGA/LIV (debate who’s “out” when both are putting for a trip. Just putt the damned thing)

5 over 77 today on 7200yd course rated at 74. NO birdies despite 13 f***ing GIR. Aerated greens...just couldn't predict what they'd do.

4 out of 5 rounds this week are going to be on aerated greens. Way she goes, Ricky.

The swing concept I was working on was a little up and down. Still working out the finer points to idiot-proof it. TBD

The rushing vs taking your time thing is simply something that has to be felt out per round. If you have a set routine that lasts X seconds you usually don't have to worry about it.

If someone is waiting behind you and you're keeping up with the group in front of you then there's no concern. If you're falling behind then strive to keep up or let others through. And if someone is always on your ass or is a smaller group and there's a hole or two open, just let them go around.

What bugs me is when I'm playing in the same group as the slow players and they're causing us to fall behind, and there's nothing I can do to speed them up. THAT is when I start to get bothered and look over my shoulder more than usual, and then I rush my own shots to make up for the slow play of the group, usually with errors as the result. Then it turns into a wasted round and you just get up and whack the ball and nothing is fun.

I played golf with a few friends today. Hit more good shots than bad including coming within 3-4 feet of the pin off my tee shot on a par 3, had a few beers, and wasn’t in the office. Mission success… if only I had the time to play more often.

What courses are people playing? Anything decent is 30-50 minutes from my house other than East Potomac Blue, which is great for a weekday 9 or early AM 18, and for practice - but not playable on weekends.

So, in MD, I’ll do Northwest, Poolesville, Falls Road, PB Dye, Little Bennett (pretty but I always end up hating golf because of the goofy greens and punishing hole setups there), and Whiskey Creek and Hampshire Greens on occasion.

In VA, it’s mostly Stonewall and Bull Run, and sometimes Westfields. Several VA courses have fallen off my rotation. Some are overpriced and not kept up commensurate with price - Raspberry, Reston, Potomac Shores (though I haven’t played there for awhile). Some are under-maintained - Pleasant Valley, South Riding. And some are poorly maintained and horrible to drive to - Augustine. I like Algonkian and Herndon for weekday value rounds. I don’t know Twin Lakes but hear those courses are pretty good

Played at Potomac Shores recently. It was mainly in good shape albeit very wet which was strange because there hadn’t been rain for the day or two prior. Maybe they overwatered a dry course and the ground couldn’t absorb all of it. Probably 4-6 times I kicked my ball 10 yards or so to the side because if I would have hit it as it lie I would have done serious damage to the course that divot dirt wouldn’t have helped. Another weird thing about PS is that they have no turn so it’s a 9-mile course straight out. You need to commit to the full 18-hole, 4.5 hour trek.

Twin Lakes is solid.

Challedon in Mt Airy is a nice course as well but pretty inconvenient for those in the DC/NoVa area.

Is Waverly Woods worth the drive from NoVa? And has anyone played Swan Point lately. Used to love that course, but it's a haul and I hear that it's not being kept up and has serious drainage issues.

Played Challedon a few times over the years. It's ok, a few wacky holes. There are some hilarious google reviews recently.

If playing out near the Moco parks and rec courses maybe try Blue Mash.

I've played about half those moco courses. Little Bennett is indeed very sadistic. Played it maybe 15 years ago. from the tips in a howling 20+ MPH wind and 50* temps to make matters worse. Horrible score I can't recall. Punishing course.

Played 18 this morning for 3 over and again no birdies. Only 7 or 8 GIR so a lot of scrambling from just off the green. Feels bad.

Leaves are starting to be a problem already.

Waverly is great. Very well-kept and managed. They aerated last week so maybe give it another week or two.
