Yeah, it's not Rizzo's fault that the Lerners feel too under-capitalized to keep pace with other MLB teams that are trying to be top-tier.
Isn't it that the younger Lerner just doesn't love baseball and wants to pursue other opportunities with the money?

They could easily hold the team and run it like the As.

No takers for Nelson Cruz? maybe we trade him at the waivers deadline. You would think someone would atleast want him to pinch hit

How long between the Redskins' last Super Bowl win and the Caps' cup? 26 years? Might be another wait like that for D.C. Don't really see any obvious team in the market that's going to be a contender any time soon.

Thom Loverro said if these Soto prospects work out the Nats could be back in the playoff hunt by 2026. Add a new owner that will spend money, could be sooner.
Hey they could even re-sign Soto in two and half years when he's a free agent.

Too many unknowns until we can see who is coming in as an owner. Being held hostage by the MASN deal might forever preclude being a big market club.

Was kind of thinking in the past couple of days that Strasburg re-signing and failure to even get on the field since could be looked at putting this team over the edge of that rebuild. If he had Scherzer health and performed decently they might have been able to build around this but maybe it is more than that.

In further reporting it really sounded like the Soto camp had already decided that they are going to go all the way to free agency in 2.5 years which is not surprising when being represented by Evil Corp.

San Diego is all abuzz over Soto. The local music radio stations morning crew are all talking about it, even when they never usually mention sports at all. Apparently Soto is also involved in tough negotiations on getting his jersey number from reliever Nick Martinez.

Soto volunteered to buy Martinez a Rolex watch, which Martinez agreed was a fair price. His initial ask, in the form of a picture he texted Soto, was a boat.

On Wednesday afternoon, Soto chuckled at the effort by Martinez.

“He really surprised me, because I’ve never seen something like that,” Soto said. “… I was really shocked. I thought that was kind of too much.”

I'll take door number 2, no trips to Russia.
Clearly a tactic for more leverage behind a prisoner exchange or other political concession but yeah, no thanks on a visit to Russia for me.

I know Griner was working in Russia so it’s different but I’ll never understand the people who willingly travel to dangerous places. Maybe I’m paranoid because of my military background but why do people feel the need to visit places like North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan’s, etc?? Or why do people volunteer to provide aid in places like Syria or Libya? The risk/reward profile is skewed so heavily in the favor of risk that it just blows my mind how we regularly read articles about this person being kidnapped by rebels and held for ransom in Syria or that person bring detained by government officials trying to leave Iran. I guess people think bad shit will never happen to them and then it’s too late.

Bro it’s not any different in red/rural America.
Idaho/ Wyoming would probably do the same. Let’s not cast rocks when we live in a glass house.

Nobody in America gets 9 years in a penal colony for 3/4 of a gram of hash oil.

This is being done for political reasons.
