It sucks if this trade goes down but the Nats can’t afford to let another home grown superstar walk for nothing.

I don't claim to be the biggest Nats follower but it's disappointing that once again they can't retain homegrown talent

“Fleeced” is trending on Twitter now. Funny thing is it appears evenly split between Nats fans saying Rizzo got fleeced and Padres fans saying SD got fleeced by Nats for gutting their farm system.

Ultimately, it will take years to determine how this trade worked out for the Nats but even then they still had to trade a 23 year old potential future HOFer.

Abrams, Hassell, House, Green, Wood, Vaquero, +(a likely top 3 pick).

7 fielders with blue-chip upside.

Gray, Gore, Cavalli, Susana (who they seem to love).

4 pitchers with blue-chip upside.

Let's hope they have a plan and the new owners have a wallet.

Boras was not going to accept any offer that wasn't in the $600 million range (possibly more) and clearly wanted him to stand pat for free agency, expecting the market to continue to change in the next 2.5 years. He was not going to sign with the Nats so they did what they had to. I don't believe the original offer had anything to do with it and I believe both parties knew that. I would not be shocked if the Padres cannot resign him. While I like Soto, for a guy who is a mediocre defensive outfielder and wasn't going to sign here anyways, we did ok. We learned from the Harper and Rendone experiences.

If I was an owner, I would instruct my GM to stay away from any Scott Boras managed player.

Harper leaving sucked when it happened but Nats fans were laughing a few months later.

Rendon leaving felt wrong but he's been a disappointment for LAA and now most agree it was for the best.

Turner and Scherzer didn't work for LAD. Trea has a few more years of elite play during which time the Nats won't be competitive. It was the smart move.

Soto leaving is the real gut punch. He'll be great for 10-15 years and a HOF player for someone else. But there's absolutely no guarantee he'll win another WS.

Rizzo routinely displays the vision the other DC teams do not and deserves a chance at another rebuild. Keep in mind he stole Turner away from SD and signed Juan Soto, essentially manufacturing two MVP-caliber players from nothing.

Yeah, it's not Rizzo's fault that the Lerners feel too under-capitalized to keep pace with other MLB teams that are trying to be top-tier.
