It’s early but I think they’re going to regret passing on Reed Sheppard, who went 3OA to the Rockets and made the First Team. If you didn’t know Sarr was a second overall pick, watching him this summer you’d have thought he was an undrafted kid playing for a two-way contract as a defensive specialist. In the minutes I saw he was awful on the offensive side of the floor… I’m talking Johnny Davis-levels of bad. He’s super young and hasn’t come close to maturing physically so there’s still hope but that was a very disappointing summer for him.

In more positive news, their other two first round picks looked like players and Bub made the Second Team. Kid just turned 19 this week too.

Curious what @usiel thinks. He watched them a lot.

For the record, I liked Clingan early on!

Sarr offensive game is going to need work. Two interviews with Dawkins at the Summer League he stress both times that they are going to focus his defense first and offense would be second (this was the same stuff the team talked about with Bilal the previous year).

Sarr does not have a post game other than a turn around fadeaway jumper. He is a decent/unselfish passer out of the post and had enough awareness to not even try and turn and drive to the basket. He physically needs to mature and some drives and even transition play when he went up and receive contact it threw his shot off.

Shot blocking is legit. Defensively he has really good lateral movement to keep smaller players in front of him.

I'd like to see how is training goes here as well as see how he progresses as the season goes on.

This poor kid is going to have every round he plays over-analyzed.

It is what it is. If his dad can train him up mentally like his dad did with him, should fuel him to be better. I can see him hating the game at some point and walking away, or he could grab the bull by the horns and overcome….going to be fascinating to see.

Tiger already called the father-son later this year the “5th major”…..no pressure there at all for the kid from his own father lol…

Looks like Winker traded to the mets for a Stuart.

Stuart, 24, has a 3.98 ERA in 17 starts and 84 innings at Double-A Binghamton. The Mets drafted him in the sixth round in 2022. He impressed in 2023 with a 2.20 ERA in 110 2/3 innings across Double A and High A (where he had most of his success). Stuart was not widely viewed as a top prospect for the Mets, but The Athletic’s Keith Law before the season wrote, “He’s got a 55 slider and average fastball velocity without a lot of life, doing it with command and some deception but probably not projecting beyond a fifth starter/swingman role.”

Talk about riding out a contract. Not sure what it says by the current ownership not to even buy him out.
Ok, so I was writing out a comment about how it made no sense that they didn't DFA him immediately after the deadline and give one of their AAA guys a shot, but I just checked and holy shit the pitching in Rochester is horrendous. The top four starters in Rochester are Thaddeus Ward (19 starts, 6.00 ERA), Jackson Rutledge (18 starts, 7.31 ERA), Spenser Watkins (17 starts, 4.76 ERA, age 31 so not really a prospect anyway), and Joan Adon (13 starts, 5.40 ERA). All but Rutledge have K rates below 20%, and all but Watkins have BB rates above 10%. There's just nothing at AAA to bring up to replace Corbin. Maaaaaaybe Brad Lord (6 starts, 3.82 ERA, 22.6 K%, 5.3 BB%) but he was just called up to AAA a month ago and has all of 30 IP there. I guess we just have to hope that when (if?) Trevor Williams ever comes back that we'll finally see the last of Corbin.
