Sure, and today, weeks from turning 35, he did something that 23-27 year olds in they’re prime cannot do, and its being downplayed.
Yes, Messi is of a different ilk, and probably not human.

I just think people are used to him doing insane things, so when he does it in a friendly against a very weak team - People just go well it's Messi.

Not so much about downplaying him, more so that people are used to him being superhuman.

I am not just talking about the opponent - Is USMNT going into this game with the same mindset as in a competitive game? Are they playing with their A team? Are they not going to experiment, try out a few things?

Usually - No matter who you play, friendlies are not an indicator of anything.

Both teams are playing A team except for Valverde, who is on the bench.

I think they can be a good indicator of what your team will face under intensity, but it depends which teams they schedule. If you want to schedule a competitive friendly just play any of the South American teams and you'll find out really fast if your team can handle pressure.

I do think for whatever reason the US team also approaches friendlies like they matter too much, so playing Uruguay/Chile/Ecuador/Colombia/Peru (who play friendlies the same) is a good game for them.

Perhaps that’s how it for you. For many, its downplaying. It comes from hate and jealousy. And there’s a whole other side of people who do it to Ronaldo.

It’s ridiculous and childish. Its teenage Instagram mentality.

But the people who do it here, on HF, are often full grown adults. And they have no shame or embarrassment in doing so, and they should have plenty. Because for the people who don't have an emotional hate for one or the other, the pettiness is extremely apparent.

Ahh - Might have to give this game a watch then.

I think the US, on a good day, can do some damage at the WC.

Could see them go to the quarters with some favourable matchups.

I also left Brazil and Argentina out of my comment because they also take friendlies very seriously and whenever we play them we get destroyed. So not good for us to play them.

I don't know how it works for others - But I have nothing but respect for the accolades of both Messi and Ronaldo.

Jelous, sure, who isn't?(Or maybe envious is a better term)- But not in a bad way - Just wish I was a superhuman, alien, robot, beast as them.

Not too sure I’d say Uruguay is playing their A team but maybe I’m just not too familiar with their players. Obviously Valverde like you said, but other than that I’d imagine Vecino and maybe Torreira, Cavani, probably different wing backs (at least I hope). I could very well be wrong though.

Ronaldo fans don't go on a circle jerk for goals against the minnows like Messi fans.
The pure fanboys certainly do. Make no mistake. When it comes the people who absolutely love one and hate the other, fanboys in other words, there is zero difference between the Messi and Ronaldo pure fanboys. None at all.

Cavani isn't a sure thing to start anymore with Darwin there. Ugarte, Valverde, Vecino, Bentancur, and Torreira are all capable of starting. Pretty sure Vina will also start at LWB. The guy Arambarri has also played a lot more than I'd play him. They have enough quality that their A team consists of a lot more players to choose from than we have.

Ya and when Ronaldo does it in Luxembourg you’re on your knees. Know your roll jabroni
Agreed.

Question, I missed out on the game and just saw the highlights. Did u get the opportunity to see the game?

With us getting closer to the World Cup, how'd Alvarez and Gomez look? How as Lisandro? Mac Allister?

Will be interesting to see what our World Cup team will look like. But after Finalissima and Copa I have a hard time taking out Di Maria and Lautaro out of the lineup.

Yes, thsts true. For people who truly do like them both, criticisms of one can be construed as hate..from haters.

If I say Ronaldo is just not close to as naturally gifted, not as majestic to watch play, a Messi fanboy, which equals a Ronaldo hater, will think im shitting on Him from hate. Watch, someone might reply doing exactly what im telling you they’ll do.

If I say Messi has at times had shown more difficulty in producing to his standards and abilities in the moments that the lights ste brightest, vice versa to the situation described above.

Bottom line is that its tiring coming from adults. And more people should call them out on it.

Yeah I mean a guy like Rossi would be playing every minute for the US and we haven’t even mentioned him. I do think our midfield is actually pretty talented and probably in the same conversation as most of those guys (definitely not Valverde but the rest probably). Their CBs are real stupid good too. It’s crazy I feel like Uruguay is real good at developing forwards and back line but seems like there’s always a level behind in their midfield.

A guy posts “Messi scored 5, wow” and it gets downplayed, because it’s Estonia. Let me ask you people something. If Messi plays vs Estonia next month and only gets a brace, was he disappointing? Did have a poor game? He should easily score 5, right?

As far as their midfield goes you will see Ugarte playing for a top team by the 23-24 season. Their next defensive generation on the other hand, other than Araujo and Gimenez, most of them are already playing in Mexico and Brazil, not exactly what anyone involved with their NT would have wanted from them.

Yeah I mean isn’t their LB at Roma or in Italy? I do like de la Cruz too as a midfielder and I think he’s at River Plate still.

Anyone who said they don't rate Nunez...lol. Almost scoring very difficult chances and playing a great cross there that should have been finished.

He’s stupid good. I almost wish he was more selfish though but I think a part of that is his age. There’s definitely been a few times in this game specifically where he could have had a pretty good chance but instead tried to pass it for a great chance that didn’t come off.

Uruguay done with the 0-0 score line with Valverde, Cavani, and Vecino coming on.

Valverde, Cavani, and Vecino all coming in and nobody good coming out.

Our defense sucks. All over the place with Miles Robinson out.
