Even if that were true, when has that ever stopped England?

England's problems have consistently been in finding a good national team manager. From the days of Capella to Sven Eriksson they've wasted generation after generation. I'm in the boat that thinks you need to appoint a manager of the same nationality as the team (but that's a different issue).

Now they have Southgate who is inept to say the least. England have the star power to always been in contention yet they fail because no manager has come in and created a team identity. You look at Spain's 11 and Germany's 11 of yesteryears they had a lineup written in stone. For England, who knows who will perform, who will fit? A lot of questions left unsolved by managers who are told to do above their limits.

Eyyy canadian men's team refusing to train due to a dispute in contract with Canadian soccer... Screw those entitled jerks... Sorry alphonso what's your yearly takeaway from Bayern? Larin? Etc... You were given the opportunity to Represent your country at the BIGGEST showcase in the world so you'll excuse me if I'm truly fed up with the greed shown by these people... Representing one's country isn't money making its called national pride... Hell if I had a quarter of their talent I'd do it for free for my country (that being said Canada Soccer should but 90% of made money back into soccer at the provincial level across the provinces) Davies doesn't need another condo but soccer Canada needs to grow

Well this is a dumb post. “We expect to work and be away from your families and put your bodies on the line for NOTHING and if you don’t like it you are selfish! We are just going to make millions and millions of dollars off you and give you NONE! And you’re going to like it!”

Switzerland score early vs Portugal. For as much as Portugal is currently recognized as having weapons which the key holder refuses to use to to their full effectiveness, that back line can often look stupidly confused.

Edit- goal called back.

…our weakest team in a generation almost beat almighty England at their peak, not sure I see the need to panic; especially now that we are back on the upswing.
I wouldn’t suggest a need to panic as well. Id call it - not just right now, maybe in a bit.

That’s obviously a dive. That’s the dumbest most ridiculous penalty I have seen in ages.

That’s not the point.

Perhaps this was a terrible call. I haven’t seen it. But have you ever heard of the story of the boy who cried wolf? Nobody pays attention to him after a while. Even if the wolf is actually there.

Is Sweden then in the same boat as Arsenal? Held down by conspiracy? Is that the case? Or is is just coincidence that those happen to be your two teams?

No, Sweden are not held back by conspiracy. This was just a ridiculous, incredible call by a PL ref

I see. The worst one you’ve seen in “ages”. So theoretically, you couldn’t possibly say something similar any time soon.

Superb counter attack finished off by Ronaldo. Damn, they can still do those lightning quick moves every so often. Someone needs to put Fernando Santos in a closet, and not tell anyone else about it.

3-0 now. The past 7-8 minutes have seen Portugal really shred the Swiss apart.

The last 20 minutes of the first half is literally the best I’ve seen Portugal play in many years. What a joyous display of football.

Spain draw level with the Czechs in the 4th minute of added time, just before the half. Yuck.

Both England, Ukraine and Hungary are vastly superior to the USA, anything can happen in soccer but I just don't understand all this confidence for the US team.
How are Ukraine and Hungary vastly superior? They don’t even have players at better club teams, and they have it so easy to enter the EU for transfers since they are in Europe.

It was Estonia...
So?

Its easy then, right? Who else does it? How often does it happen? Every offensive player burns Estonia for 5, correct?

This is same ridiculousness that comes from haters of another player who scores hatty’s and poker’s consistently vs the Latvia’s and Luxembourg’s.

Same questions. Who else and how often does a player burn those trams with 3,4,5 goals.

I’m gonna wait until the next guy scores 5 vs Estonia in a match. It’s mundane. Normal. Not noteworthy in the least.

Really? A friendly will be a good indicator?
When you play against teams with world class players yeah sure. South American teams generally approach friendlies differently than everyone else as well. They are not exactly so friendly and everyone playing the match is trying to earn more important playing time.

NT play is also generally more important to them.

Easy now - No one is saying Messi isn't a beast.

However, he has done many more noteworthy things than score 5 against a very weak nt in Estonia.

For example scoring 5 against Bayer Leverkusen in the CL round of 16, 10 years ago.

I am not just talking about the opponent - Is USMNT going into this game with the same mindset as in a competitive game? Are they playing with their A team? Are they not going to experiment, try out a few things?

Usually - No matter who you play, friendlies are not an indicator of anything.

Sure, and today, weeks from turning 35, he did something that 23-27 year olds in their prime cannot do, and its being downplayed.
