Im all for getting Pärssinen time but um this is definitely a choice.

I really think Tomasino has looked pretty good.

Stamkos is a center much like Duchene is a center. Can he play it sure... should he though?

Smith being with Stamkos/Marchessault does have some logic. Some jam could help them out. Too bad we dont have a big physical center that could slide between the two.

Honestly, looks like Brunette wanted to go back to what sortof worked last season with the Forsberg/Ror/Nyquist and Jankowski/novak/evang lines then just kindof slapped the rest of the parts together.

Not a fan. Tomasino has been fine. Smith is what he is and so is Jank. Feels like a knee jerk reaction when it seemed like we were generating some really high-end scoring chances.

I assume this is Brunos way of saying, the goals don't have to be pretty, just get them in the net. I expect we see a crash and bang, everything towards the net, no extra passes type game on Tuesday.

We have been playing too much on the perimeter. Getting lots of unscreened shots that aren't really prime scoring chances. This seems to be his way of putting jam on every line and trying to get identity back. I don't expect these lines to stick, but it's not a bad point to make to them.

I mean, the shot charts and my eye test don't agree with that much.

I'm sorry but if Smith is playing in the top 6 I have zero confidence in Brunette to make good decisions.
Cole "Scoring Machine" Smith to the rescue. Wahoo!

Seriously though, that one's a head scratcher.

Parssinon, McCarron, Sissons, Jankowski all play a heavy game. But that doesn't give bonus points for going out of the room that the box is in.

They sent Parssinen down last season to play center, so why in the world if you are going to make that drastic of a change would your first move not to be to throw him with the two Vets and see what he can do?

sometimes you need added grit to a line to retrieve pucks. Scotty Bowman did this a lot, McCarty played a lot with Kozlov and Federov.
Yeah well I've seen this same line used over the years and I'm not even sure you need fingers to count the number of times it's worked here.

The thing is you aren't just moving Smith up but moving Stamkos over to center, something he hasn't done in several years.

I am not shocked to see this based on how the first 2 games have gone, but I would be shocked if it last for longer than it should. I really think this is Bruno trying to prove a point on how he wants guys to play. The shot chart somebody posted shows the number of attempts we've had that were prime scoring opportunities, and I haven't really been upset with that portion. I would say having somebody who is a designated front of the net, crash, and bang type player could be beneficial...as obvious as that point is.

I can rattle off several chances that in my mind are rarely missed with Forsberg having a gaping net, Novak literally standing in the blue ice with an open net, ROR with a back door tap in he couldn't settle. There's been many goals that probably should have been that would've changed the complexion of the first 2 games. All that to say, I am not overly concerned.

I really want to see Skjei settle in. I haven't loved his game so far.

I have seen this too. The problem here is Smith is only grit with little to no offensive skill set. We seem to draft/sign/develop players with a skill and that's it. There are guys out there who have grit and some semblance of skill. Oh well, interesting to see what shakes out tonight.

I'm for whatever it takes to win. I'm also not going to put a lot of stock in lines on a nongame day practice session.

Smith has good speed and plays with more energy than anyone else on the team, to go along with his grit. Yes, his hands aren't very good but he's got other tools.

I'm not going to put too much stock into it either although I don't like that it bumped Tomasino out of the lineup.

I honestly don't mind Jank in the lineup as I think he brings more to the table as a complimentary linemate than Smith or McC does, that's just me and the eye test.

I also didn't understand Sissons moving to the 4th line and as a wing? Your best 2 way center moving to the wing? Doesn't make a lot of sense. More than likely a wakeup call but it does make you scratch your head a little.

I mean it's so early in the season and he's trying to figure out what works, off day practices are the best place to do it.

Forsberg - O’Reilly - Nyquist
Smith - Stamkos - Marchessault
Jankowski - Novak - Evangelista
Pärssinen - Sissons - McCarron

Josi - Fabbro
Skjei - Schenn
Lauzon - Carrier
Extra - Tomasino

Saros
Wedgewood

Apparently the tweet is not showing properly..
I like the idea of splitting up the offense but in this scenario I would switch Parssinen and smith. Also would probably scratch jankowski for Tomasino.

Also curious about defense… wasn’t josi supposed to play rd and form a nice top pair with Skjei?
Schenn is not a top four defender. We need a rd badly to balance this. Hopefully we get that Johansen cap space.

I am losing confidence that Burnette knows what he is doing aka line blender. Many of us have been watching hockey for decades. We aren't stupid. We also watch other teams. I don't buy the "he knows more because of x,y or z." He seemingly wants players to play his way instead of finding combos that work. The point is to score goals and prevents goals on your end. How you get there should be a product of what skill sets you mix together, imho. But I suppose every coach has their weak spots.
