Ok I just started my vacation which means I’ve been drinking a bit. With that said…

What the actual f? I don’t get this at all. I know it’s a process, and I’ll give it a little bit of time, but as of now it feels like the team sure is saving a lot of money while our ticket prices continue to increase.

Sometimes I just want to know the plan and right now it just feels directionless. Poile* did say the plan was to get a 1C so we’ll see I guess.

*whoops! Trotz

This doesn't mean that Trotz is burning it down or unhappy with Duchene's character. It's because his NTC kicks in tomorrow and Trotz didn't want to be stuck with an $8M 32-year-old for 3 more years. I expected him to pay someone to take him, but I guess that he couldn't find a trade partner for even that, so this was the last resort.

Stuck with him vs paying him not to be here is very very close monetarily in this scenario. I have a hard time believing this was just shrewd GM'ing being a step ahead. Not to mention he was our leading scorer the last 2 seasons.

Shit, they are forking out cash left and right to pay guys to leave. They aren't saving that much and if they replace any of these guys to any degree then they are spending more.

I love Barry but he owes us an explanation. Where exactly are we going? Full rebuild? If so, fine, then move Josi and Saros. Re-tool and look to make the playoffs with a combo of younger guys and trade/UFA moves? Fine. Communicate. Your Season Ticket holders are watching you burn The Village to save it. We paid for The Village.

Poile aways told us where he was going. He was not doing a Full Rebuild. Agree or not, he communicated. Trotz is not fully communicating. He failed to move into the Top 5 in the Draft, and looked to be willing to move Askarov, which may indicate he sees Saros as the goalie for the 10 years. Joey move kinda makes sense but made us less competitive this season, and now Duchene being treated like Turris.

Duchene had 43 goals and 43 assists 2 years ago. Last year, in 71 games, he had 22 goals 34 assists. Not worth $8MM but you'd need to pay between $4MM and $6MM to get that kind of production from someone else. So if you play Duchene for his last 3 years, and he plays up to a $5MM contract, you're burning $15MM. With this move, we're burning $19MM with no upside chance. Who says Duchene wouldn't have put up numbers like 2 years ago under new management.

Look, Barry is a Pred Icon, but a rookie GM. He hasn't earned the "trust me" treatment. He owes us a vision and specifically how this move helps achieve that vision.

We've wondered whether Nashville, as a hockey market, has advanced to the point of weathering a Rebuild. Looks like we're about to find out.

True. $5.5M in 24-25 and $6.5M in 25-26 isn't that much less than $8M. On the other hand, he'll turn 34 and 35 during those seasons. How likely is he to still be good at those ages, and would he need to be put in the top 6 and on the PP to be good and somewhat live up to his contract? I think that that's what Trotz is afraid of, that Duchene will either A) take away a spot in the top 6 and on the PP that a kid could use, or B) be demoted to the 3rd line, where he may give poor value for his contract. Neither sounds good.

That doesn't really check out to me either though. His cap hit is 5.55 year after next and 6.55 in what would be the final year of his contract. And now 1.55 is tacked on for an additional 3 years. Very minimal savings in those 2 years, I think this was 100% about Trotz not liking Duchene.

And you can buy out an NTC at any time with no issues. You can even buy out a full NMC with no issue.

Trotz has been very transparent with what he is doing. Every media appearance, every written article it’s been the exact same message.

What I was about to say. If he takes a spot in the future then you buy him out. This feels like Trotz sending a message, there are no more passengers on the Nashville predators no matter what your point totals are. He's bringing back the "predator way".

He's going to find a Joel Ward next.

Yep. And I just want to say, Joel Ward was criminally underrated, sign me right up for another Joel Ward. In fact, I'll take 2. Dude had some real skill, but almost always got stuck with Smithson or the like. And he showed up in the playoffs

I think I know where you’re going with this comment but I don’t think it works if Saros is still on the roster.

Did you not hear Trotz’s comments regarding Saros yesterday on the radio? Saro’s isn’t going anywhere unless it’s an off that Trotz just can’t refuse.
Trotz’s plan has absolutely nothing to do with tanking.

There is direct evidence to the contrary currently. I understand your position, but what Trotz has done so far has not shown any inclination to help the current team. There is still a lot of off-season to go, though.

Trotz setting off his fireworks early? Guess I'll give it a few days to see if he has a plan that this move will make sense, but I'm sure scratching my head now.

Didn't see it coming, but it makes sense. Part of the old core, Trotz wants to implement his vision with his guys. Sucks because he still has something left, but I understand completely.
