duchene was def part of the country club

the only members left are forsberg and josi

Listen I belong to a CC in real life- big CC guy. However, I don’t want men of great leisure in the locker room or on the ice

My good friends wife has babysat for The Duchenes from time to time. The guy has truly assimilated with the Nashville upper echeclon (membership at Troubadour) which is great in one regard, but exudes a certain complacency on the other hand.
Yikes

I will say I've also heard good things about Duch in the looker room. I don't think he was universally loved or hated.

At the end of the day this is probably a good move for the org if you are really trying to rebuild completely and couldn't find a trade partner. You couldn't retain on him for three more years.

problem?

I'm dying of laughter right now. Source is never wrong. Barry wasn't going to go in with Duchene and Johansen next year. I don't think either were Trotz guys.

Super interesting and not surprised. I hadn't heard good things about Duch off ice.
i Thought Duchene was a big bible thumper (not a bad thing) The people i know who know him are very complimentary of him and his family

I like what Trotz has done so far but for me to love it I need to see what the end game is.
Looking at this buyout and his comments about no long term contracts right now I see the 2026-2027 season being Trotz’s “be ready” year. Could change if we get the right people via trade/draft.

I have always said we have never been bad enough to draft high enough to get game changers. This may be our time.

One last thing looking at our defense it is very advanced in age compared to our offense and we only Drafted one defenseman at draft.

So I can’t wait to see what Trotz does to change our team into a top notch team in the league.

i have a feeling some trades are going to be made

even though trotz has chosen violence today, I see us signing someone like Max Domi and maybe trading for Lindholm
That would be pretty dumb in my opinion. Then you've given up assets and spent basically all of the cap space (along with RFAs) to come out of the other end still mediocre and locked into another big contract on an older player.

I’d take Lindholm tho

Forsberg-Lindholm- Vange
Kemmell??-Novak-Tomasino
Parsinnen-Glass-Trenin
Jankowski-sissons-Mccarron

He's really really good, yeah, a competitive team should be all over him. But that forward group is still nothing special, neither is the defense. Just doesn't make sense.

Well.... didnt have that on my list of things that would happen this offseason. I cant believe we couldnt of held half of his contract and got atleast something. So now the only person in the top 6 with any real experience is forsberg.

Trotz i guess figured to get to the top 6 you have to land there by sucking. So saros gone next

Didn't see this coming. Without some other moves being made the only way this one makes sense is that Trotz just really didn't like Duchene.

As things stand now there is little reason to worry about the playoffs next year.

I feel like we would've been better off buying out Johansen and trading Duchene at 50%. Surely he would've had some positive value
Although, maybe ONLY Colorado wanted a player, and they obviously wanted a) a Center, and b) no part of Duchene returning. So I would guess it was just never possible.

That's how tight the Cap is. Unless you're willing to send a draft pick to Arizona or Chicago to get them to help out.
:dunno:

Now the question is does anyone else go to Trotz and tell them they want the heck out.
I mean, you can buy out players who have NMCs...

My guess is teams looked at RyJo and said “yeah, I could pay him 4M to play 3C.” But Duchene doesn’t really project as a 3RW at any price. He’s an aging 1RW who was always inconsistent at his best.

(But with all that said, my eyes tell me he still has wheels and a shot. So idk)

Can't say I like this one, Trotzy. Over $11mil in dead cap next year. Just trade Josi, Fil and Saros now because this team is gonna blow when they have no space to sign the youngsters

Near where sand and waves meet.
The real money side is savings. The dead cap is costly, especially in years two and three. I won’t be surprised when he signs for 3-4mil and nets 20+ somewhere.

The next cap hit sword of Damacles is if Weber says the hell wit it and retires.
