I don't think the problem is with national tournaments in and of themselves...but there IS a pretty major risk involved when the top players are participants. It is a difficult thing to reconcile. If the NHL says no to participation who would be left and would anyone watch? On the other hand, if the guy you're paying $9m a year is injured before the season begins...yikes!

I LOVE watching the Olympics and the IIHF tournament and seeing all our guys play...and I know every game played in any arena is always a risk. But I do worry that one will be hurt. I wouldn't cancel the tournaments, but if I was GM Adzy instead of Fan Adzy I would think long and hard before I permitted a star player to participate.
The main event that can be erased is the iihf wc. Every year that tournament only has 2nd basket players on the national teams. In Finland some wise people know that but it's a huge event in Finland although there's not nearly the best players, WC kinda has the best players but the teams are made in cash grab mentality. Team NA and Europe are a joke. Fill the rest with actual teams, not teams from 16 year old dudes who think ''this might be so cool''

I'm actually glad Subban doesn't go to WC this year. He's got lots to see in Nashville and I'm hoping that he will instantly find that one defense partner he will play with hopefully the whole year in practice.

Yeah, delete all national tournaments because of teams are too scared to let players get injured and unwilling to pay for insurances.
It kills the sport. How the **** are you thinking that national tournaments should be canceled?

If people want hockey to grow, national tournaments have to be a must, not cancelled because teams who hold rights to those best players are too scared of them getting injured.

What do these tournaments bring to the table? Nothing, that's what... other than extra playing time. The timing of these things are what is the worst about them. They should all be after the season (much like the IIHF WC). Having them during the season like Adz said is too big of a risk (for how much salary and cap they take up) for these teams in each league.

And honestly, I do not watch any of them. I have a problem watching a game when I do not know who the players are + I am torn between who to pull for. I kind of want to pull for my favorite players on my favorite NHL team, but that goes against rooting for your own country.

Whatever the case is, I'm looking forward to it. In hockey and soccer I'm all for international tournaments and look forward to rooting for Team USA against the world. The World Baseball Classic is okay but I don't get into it as much. Olympic basketball I don't really care about because I don't like a lot of American players. This event I can get behind though. I mean, yeah obviously we hope no one gets injured but it is what it is. I will enjoy it but I can see why some people don't find it worth the risk.

Let's agree to disagree, we're both Nashville fans anyways

Too scared? Says someone not paying a guy a guaranteed mulimillion contract.

You put tens of millions on the line and see how much you love those tournaments.

Let's say PK Subban plays in one and blows out his knee for this year. Now as a Preds fan, you are without Weber AND the guy who is his replacement this year.

Explain that to your fanbase here while you are still crying over losing millions even with insurance.

These tournaments only help in places where hockey is a big deal. Here in the U.S. nobody even knows they exist.

A lot of players are patriotic. Tell them not to participate, they'll tell you no thanks at next contract negotiation.

Tell them to sign a contract not paying them their full salary for the whole year if they get injured at them and see how many will say "No thanks."

You guys and this silly notion these guys are playing for fun and games.....the lockouts and the cancelling a complete season and almost a whole one again should have a clue by now. These guys are as much about the money as football, basketball, etc.

Olympics and international play = better sponsorship deals.

PK rocks. You just gained tons of new fans from Montréal, I will be rooting for the Preds in the West for sure. He was my favourite player on the Habs. That and I'm intrigued by Johanson. Just wait for the playoffs, if the Canadiens are eliminated the whole nation of Québec will root for Nashville, boosting your ratings.

You're right.

P.K. is not the one that was hitting the most (nor the best) , or blocking shots. He let his fellow d-men do the dirty work.

Subban was in fact doing the dirty work. More than that, even though he's not much of a fighter, he did defend his teammates on a few occasions while others were just watching.

He was always fueld up against Boston. Not much else against the other 28 teams.

For that last hit alone against that steaming dog pile Marchand....I love this new Predator

After watching the Subban highlights, I googled some videos of Weber.

I know all good things must come to an end, and I am looking forward to Subban in Preds gold, but this makes me sad.

I know some of you feel the end of an era but know that you just got one of the most exciting players in the league. If some of you like to go to the games, you know you will get a good show.

Who will he play with do you think?
Logic would say Josi, but it's also possible that he and Josi could be spread across the top two pairings and take up a ****load of minutes on a nightly basis, leaving our questionable bottom pairing without a lot of ice time.

So the Habs are going to let go of the analytics consultant after he told them how bad of a trade idea this was, come on Preds, hire this guy... lol

Pfeffer is one of the best in the business. The fact that he flat out said, "do not make this trade, this is a very bad hockey move" and it cost him his job just makes the Habs look even worse.

I know as an organization, the Predators are big on analytics. They used Eric Tulsky as a consultant a couple of years back, and I'm pretty sure their pro scouting department is pretty well versed.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/and-no...semen-rankings-for-2015-16-203303273-nhl.html

From the yahoo sports link, "Shea Weber, Nashville: The template for what you want in a No. 1 defenseman."

They ranked Subban 2 spots ahead of Weber.

I like the trade, think Subban will be very good here. But, to listen to most of the comments here, he is the best defenseman ever.

I think it's going to take a long time to find the chemistry as you have a crunching defender in Weber vs. a more finesse type guy.

Subban might be on the rise as he's younger and plays a different style, but I think Josi is going to decline a bit without Weber at his side.
