Weber's personality + Canadian media = ugly combination. I have a feeling that Weber would ask for a trade after not too long as I think the media will run him out town.

Im affraid your right thats why I put the I hope so in there. If Weber does not step up and be noticeable every game there gonna eat the guy alive. He ghad blocks of games here when we did not know he was among the living up there that can not ever happen.

I don't know about that...Sundin, Linden, Gary Roberts, even more recently Jarome Iginla,Smyth...all captains of Canadian teams, all known for being reserved\quiet. I think that honestly Canadian fans tend to like that more so than the flashier, more chatty guys.

My biggest concern is more Subban's style clashing with some of the other guys. I think it will be OK, but it is going to be a cultural shock for these guys.

I'm happy with the trade, but I can't help but be a bit worried about Subban's presence. I understand it's Montreal yada yada yada, but if life has taught me anything, these things are rarely black and white. Usually both parties are at least partially at fault.

I am really hoping, however, this is a Seguin like move. Maybe it will wake PK up a bit and refocus him on hockey and his locker room persona.

Subban ain't like Seguin. His off ice activities are not reprehensible at all. Just the contrary. Great with kids and moms...

But he has a LOT of off ice activities. Subban never met a camera or a microphone he doesn't like. I guess it's gonna be a little bit quieter in Nashville than in a crazy hockey city like Montreal. Subban loves to be in the limelight. he will even host a Comedy Gala during the next JUst For Laughs Festival in Montreal at the end of the month.

Just don't expect him to be a leader like Weber, ever. I hope the Preds have other strong leaders in the room.

Webers leadership is way over exaggerated, to the point it will piss you off at times. He does not stand up for his teammates as often as he sould. If you look bake thru our old threads you will see what many here called the pissed off Weber or the mean Weber that only happened a couple times a year. But as far as leaders left here its pretty thin. Two hotheads in Neal and Riberio, Fish will be fine but his time is limited The rest are young and young to the point they have never stepped up in a leadership way as well. Many want Josi and hes my favorite player but he is not ready for that. Forsberg is even further back than Josi. It will have to be a leadership by committee until someone does step up.

Does Ekhplm get more playing time as result of Weber going out or will he stay around the same time he was at?

Weber leaving will not get Ekholm more time but the weak 3rd pair will I expect the top pairs minutes to increase by a minute or so because of this unless Poile finds someone better than Yannick Weber for the 3rd pair.

You guys got a great D-Men.
Top-5 in the league, maybe top-3.

In PO, PK is top-3 in the league. He does elevate his game to the challenge.

From 2010 to 2016:
PK had .64 points per game (8th) in regular season and .73 points per game (2nd) in PO.

In season, PK and Weber have respectively .64 and .63 points per game but Weber has much more goals (63 vs 102).

In PO, PK is top-3 with Letang and Burns.
Keith is not far away and is the best in +/- in PO but the more you win in PO the better your +/- are.
As for Weber, he is 33rd.

Letang is also very impressive: second during the season and third during PO.
Another player not good enough for Team Canada:shakehead

Just for the fun, looking at points per game (2010-16), Regular season vs PO:
  • Karlsson goes from 1st to 13th (23 games).
  • Shattenkirk goes from 15th to 6th.
  • Keith goes from 12th to 4th.
  • Josi goes from 18th to 51st.
  • Weber goes from 10th to 33rd.
  • Burns goes from 7th to 1st.
  • Boyle goes from 42nd to 5h.
  • Hedman goes from 26th to 12th.
  • Doughty goes from 27th to 7th (quite a jump).
  • Krug from 28th to 8th (27 games).
  • Franson goes from 60th to 10th (24 games).

Also go back to post 614. I did look at the numbers.
And the more I look at them, the more I

Just for his short time here, I'm already seeing Joey becoming Captain material, much less a team leader. Someone mentioned Nealer as a "hothead" which comes out at times, but I see him as a player stepping up when locker room inspiration is needed as well. It's going to be different, but I think P.K. adapts and joins a very close-knit leadership group.

Might not if you look at simple three-year projections (something a wise man from Kansas City once called "Established Performance Level").

Subban: 75 gp, 10-45-55, +8, 76 PIM, 4 PPG-0 SHG, 179 S, 5.6 S%, 26:02 ATOI, 61.11 HART*
Weber: 78 gp, 19-31-50, +1, 46 PIM, 11 PPG-0 SHG, 206 S, 9.2 S%, 26:10 ATOI, 57.10 HART*

(* - HART is a metric that I developed decades ago that measures performance based on the general statistical numbers that most voters use in Hart Trophy selection. In general, higher is better.)

What's yada, yada, yada?

None of the rumors have been vetted by any credible source, so why give them credence and cast a shadow on Subban before he's even spent any time with his new teammates. You can choose to connect dots that no one has proven, or just give him the benefit of the doubt. Great opportunity for Subban to quiet his tormentors by showing what he can do where it counts, game in and game out.

Dale Weise was on NHL Network Radio on Sirius a couple of days ago -- the day after the Montreal radio guy blasted Subban for being a "me first" player.

He basically dispusted everything the guy said and called Subban a high character player and a leader. He said that while it's true Subban is...to use his word, "a little eccentric," he said that in his time playing with PK in Montreal there was never an issue, and that includes the media favorite "Pacioretty hates Subban" story. He said that in his opinion, some in Montreal are trying to rationalize why a player that good was traded, but that they're reaching and grasping at straws. He said that he thinks it was a good hockey trade, but at the end of the day he couldn't say a bad thing about Subban.

This is a guy that recently signed with the Flyers and really has no horse in the race.

Do you have a link to the interview?

When is the World Cup? You'd think with that on the horizon a lot of these guys would already be into their serious preseason training regimen

...and I'm still not used to this...still feels really weird

September 17 to October 1. They'll still have another week in camp before regular season even if they're in the finals.

I guess the thought is these are players are going to make their team, they can learn new plays easily, and they probably keep up fairly regular training sessions during the off season. Additionally star players competing at a higher level than scrimmages may be seen as a beneficial trade out for the more mundane aspects of training camp.

All the above is not to say that I think having it is that good of a thing. I'll watch it because it's fresh hockey, but also I have concern that one of our players might be injured at a very critical time of the year. Of course the same thing COULD happen in training camp, but from where I sit the likelihood would be less there than in competitive play.

Bergevin's take on the trade. Interesting that they tried to make the trade bigger

So for fans asking where PK is, sounds like Weber hasn't appeared in Montreal yet either. It's just offseason/vacation time right now. If he doesn't show until training camp, that's just fine. I'm not certain PK will be into Nashville like some of the other guys have been, so we may be better off if he doesn't spend a lot of time in town.

Other takeaway was that they already say Weber will get an "A" in Montreal. I hope that the Preds get PK into the leadership group right away as well, I don't see why they wouldn't or why he wouldn't naturally be a leader based on his skill and role anyway, just saying that it's something that needs to happen.

Weber was in a golf tournament this past weekend http://www.nhlpa.com/news/2016-nhlpa-golf-classic-recap

Interesting to me that the name of the golf course was Predator Ridge and there were a lot of current and ex Preds participating.

Ones I remember: Shea Weber, Ryan Johansen, Devan Dubnyk (2 games count, right?), Vern Fiddler, Jerred Smithson, Cody Franson. There may have been more, but these were shown and identified in the pictures.

Brent Gilchrist and Jordin Tootoo also participated--just read their names in the copy.

^This x 10000000. This tournament is absolutely stupid and has zero merit (very few countries are involved) and was created simply out of jealously of the Olympics. Now before anyone asks, I don't like the Olympics either for the same reason. Just watch some team's season be ruined because of some key player getting injured in this tournament. Just look at the Olympic injury to Tavares as an example. He got injured and was out for the rest of the season.

Yeah, delete all national tournaments because of teams are too scared to let players get injured and unwilling to pay for insurances.
It kills the sport. How the **** are you thinking that national tournaments should be canceled?

If people want hockey to grow, national tournaments have to be a must, not cancelled because teams who hold rights to those best players are too scared of them getting injured.

I don't think the problem is with national tournaments in and of themselves...but there IS a pretty major risk involved when the top players are participants. It is a difficult thing to reconcile. If the NHL says no to participation who would be left and would anyone watch? On the other hand, if the guy you're paying $9m a year is injured before the season begins...yikes!

I LOVE watching the Olympics and the IIHF tournament and seeing all our guys play...and I know every game played in any arena is always a risk. But I do worry that one will be hurt. I wouldn't cancel the tournaments, but if I was GM Adzy instead of Fan Adzy I would think long and hard before I permitted a star player to participate.

A lot of players are patriotic. Tell them not to participate, they'll tell you no thanks at next contract negotiation.

GM Adzy has ironclad 7 and 8 year contracts with all the top players. She doesn't have to worry her pretty little head about such things. :)
