Bernier had no business being in the NHL at 19, straight from junior on a garbage Kings team. It was a horrible decision that likely significantly damaged his NHL career.

Petersen at 24 years old is a way different situation.

It wasn't Lombardi who wanted Bernier to start, it was Crawford and Lieweke. DL stepped in and said no, sent him to the minors, let him learn the right way, and in the end made him a better player. Bernier said later it was the best move for his career, he just didn't know it at 19.

Many leaf fans peddled Bracco over Grundstrom. Lots of leaf fans not happy to lose Grundstrom either.
Bracco is an elite playmaker but his skating makes him a long shot. Grundstorm is a sure bet to make the NHL.

Worst case Grundstorm is an excellent third line checking winger. Upside (and imo likely) he becomes a complimentary top six 20G/20A type.

I think I can answer why the Friedman comment of the Kings scouts maybe preferring Durzi over Liljegren.
Have to call Friedman full of it on this one. Liljegren started last season in the A at 18 and ended up on the top pairing that won the calder cup. Yes his defensive game needs work but his offensive ceiling is high.

The Kings need as many of these type players as they can get. We have yet to see any promise from players like Amadio and Kempe that they will have this kind of production. Other guys have looked capable, but none are proven.

I'm more interested, at this point, why leafs fans are so comparatively low on Durzi and comparatively high on Liljegren, beyond the age gap and different leagues. Tools-wise, more than anything, not necessarily talking pedigree. I seem to recall Durzi had a rough training camp or something?

Leaf fans just see age and where they are currently playing.

Durzi doesnt have the same “pedigree” as Liljegren prior to the draft, thus many fans have Durzi lower on their prospect depth chart. Timmy has a higher ceiling but also has just as much bust potential as someone like Durzi.

Durzi could indeed be a late bloomer as he does have some tools to become an NHLer someday. But he doesnt do anything special, nor is he spectacularily skilled, thus Leaf fans believe he is expendable.

Kings have been known to bring in some young undrafted defenders and/or late bloomers and help them develop... sounds familiar and a bit ironic if they can indeed do this with Durzi too.

I also attribute it to the notion that the fanbase has really bought into the "we're smarter than everyone else" when Liljegren dropped to them in the draft and everyone in the org and fanbase were screaming "steal of the draft". Maybe, just maybe, he dropped for a reason.

The Kings actually may face the same thing with Vilardi.

And hey, they both still may work out. Still early to call.

reminds me of grebeshkov

I know some have compared him to Komarov stylistically, but with a better shot. I posted a clip of his release and how heavy it is. I would say he has more offensive upside, if he is a Komarov with more offence. Kings fans are in for a treat.

Pronman said the exact same thing prior to the trade. I don't get why everyone is going so hard at Friedman over this, it's not like he is making shit up, scouts have been somewhat down on Lil recently.

Really he shouldn't get any flak for reporting how scouts view him, Lilejgren didn't even make Button's most recent affiliate top prospects ranking. This despite being once high on him before his stock started plummeting.

I think the Kings probably viewed him as top 4 D man or bust. And just made the call Durzi projected more safely into a NHL D man better 4-6. The videos I posted were from earlier this season before he was hurt. So they were not just selected. They are recent.

Which is a tell why perhaps why teams are not so high on him. If you look at the Leafs fans proposals they are far more apt to trade Liljegren than Sandin backing up this position.

Age combined with name/hype coming into the draft

If the reports are true, it sounds like management is looking for quality depth over boom-or-bust top talent. It takes a team to win. Maybe they really did just like Durzi better than Liljegrin.

Sean Durzi just named OHL defense-man of the month, not too impressive as a overeager, but still something of note.

Did I just see Muzzin sporting an 8 for the leafs? That really is going to confuse the blue crew, "RHD 8 from the kings Drew Muzzin"!!!

looks like Facebook is going to stream the Reign game tonight. good chance to see Grundstrom,

edit... how do you post a facebook link without the board trying to turn it into media? the link above should have https://www in front of it, but as soon as I do that it converts it to a facebook video which doesnt work here...

Muzzin got a stick caught under his skate and took a pretty good wipe out into the boards. Did not look good initially, but he was able to get up under his own power.

I’m sure Leafs Nation had a good scare on that one.
