I don’t see how a 19 year old guy like Liljegren who is playing in the AHL can be ranked lower than a guy 6 months older who is in junior hockey and not a top 5 pick.

At the Guelph game tonight gang... Durzi had a beautiful set up pass QBing the PP to Suzuki, the only thing nicer then the pass was the absolute snipe short side top corner by Suzuki...

Durzi has good vision and makes nice passes.
damn, beat me to it :) im just scoreboard watching but was going to say he just got an assist.

If Durzi never makes it, so be it. I was a little surprised the Kings got a #1 and Grundstrom, so Durzi is a wildcard bonus. In 4 years, Muzzin is retired and the Kings may have 3 players from the deal playing a big part in LA. Or at least 2. The Kings are very familiar with Durzi, having them on their list and knowing the Owen Sound GM and staff. Durzi seems driven and coming back from ankle surgery is not easy. He seems very determined. Better to judge this trade in 2 years....even a year from now, it will be in better focus - who the Kings select with the pick (or if they package it for something?) how Grundstrom does in the NHL and Durzi in the AHL. Durzi has 5 goals and 11 pts in his first 8 games in Guelph. Sickening Ill numbers.

Durzi with a beautiful stretch pass through center to Ratcliffe who sets up Suzuki for another snipe in tight short side... he may not ever make it but kid has talent and will be a great addition to the farm team AND his value as a trade chip looks solid as well

Are you saying he may never make it because you see issues (I realize you may have only seen him live for like... 3 minutes so far) or are you just saying that cause it would be premature to assume anything else at this point?

The Kings have to make a number of decisions with their defense prospects who aren't in the pros/minors.

Both Sean Durzi and Markus Phillips need to be signed (which I think will most likely happen). They also have Mikey Anderson and Cole Hults in college who were both selected in 2017, and they have Jacob Moverare, a 2016 pick who is still 20-years-old, under contract and currently loaned to Frolunda in the SHL.

Brickley, Roy, and Lintuniemi will all be RFAs at the end of the season, and I expect the first two to be retained. Clague, Strand, Walker, MacDermid and Reddekopp are under contract next season (with Clague being the only one in that group on a three-year deal, all the others are on two-year deals).

With both Phillips and Durzi likely to graduate to the AHL next season, the Kings will have to create some space. Reddekopp will likely be demoted to the ECHL or moved to another team, like the Kings did last year when they sent Zac Leslie to Vegas for "future considerations."

In terms of who may graduate to the Kings next season, I figure Walker has an inside track, and Brickley, Roy, Strand and Clague could impress in camp and become regulars in the lineup next season. That opens up spots for junior/college prospects to join Ontario's blueline.

Not knowing who is staying and who is going, it is tough to predict what LA's blueline will look like, but Ontario's top 6/7 next season may consist of Brickley, Roy, Clague, Strand, Phillips, Durzi, MacDermid/Reddekopp.

I see Anderson and Hults staying in college for 1 more year. So the lineup depth won't be as tight.

NHL: Doughty, Forbort, Phanuef, Walker, LaDue, Brickley, Fantenberg

AHL: Clague, Strand, Roy, Phillips, Durzi, MacDermid, Moverare

If the Kings like Durzi over Liljegren, I'll defer to their judgment. They've needed to replace Miller since trading him, and LaDue has been off and on.

LaDue isn't off and on...he's been on all the time. He just needs the ice time.

And for the Durzi vs Lily argument... I believe LA went for Sandin. Toronto said NO.

So LA probably had a choice of a 1st+Lily or 1st+Grundstrum+Durzi and LA liked having Grundstrum & Durzi over just Lily. I'm guessing LA management thought Lily is better than Durzi but not by a lot, so getting Grundstrum definitely made up the difference + more

Im just quantifying that nothing is a guarantee. Ive now watched the majority of his home games in Guelph, this one obviously much more closely.

I dont think he’s jumping to the NHL full time next year but id say he has as good of a shot as many of the prospects at getting there with some pro hockey seasoning

Cool, good to know your nearby and can give us reports here and there through the rest of the season. I'm sure we will all appreicate it on these boards.

Love to be able to help out.

Durzi on the ice for another goal. No point on the play but started it by a nice breakout pass after showing some great patience to let the play develop.

A side note, Suzuki is such an advance player. On Guelph’s 5th goal he gains the zone, dishes it off, goes to the net down the middle and has the awareness to tie the D up while letting the puck go through his legs to the winger coming down the side unbothered who made a nifty move backhand shelf... he impresses me more and more each game.

Phillips plays a quiet game. Hasnt seen PP time and seems to be PK2. Not flashy and not noticeable for any of the wrong reasons.

Durzi with another nifty set up as he jumped into the rush, took contact, found a guy far side for a one timer. 7-1 Guelph halfway through the 2nd over a decent Saginaw team

Never posted to wish him well, so favourite Muzzin memory:

Anaheim series. We’re down 3-2 going intogame 6.

At this point in the run my nerves are so shot I’m usually loaded in my basement before puck drop, cranking metal over the commentary because Chris Cuthbert didn’t draw the series. Way she goes.

First period Muzzin pinches and takes a pass from Kopi to the high slot to open the scoring. Mayhem. For at least that series, I knew we’d be fine.

Second favourite: pre-cup run, enemy hf fans pissed they lost a game and got “dominated by something called a Muzzin.”

I'm in Toronto and fans have the cup wrapped up with muzzin being the con smythe trophy winner. Save me guys. By the way nice package you guys got a first round pick and 2 second round pick prospects quite an impressive haul for Mr Blake.

Well said.

I know I’m contradicting myself a bit here (see: my Veleno v Kupari tantrum last draft), but I’d rather the Kings go for a higher upside/higher risk prospect in Lil than an even wilder card with Durzi who does not have as much upside. I understand Friedman and others have talked about Lil trending down, but I still see an all situations 19 year old #1 D in the AHL. That’s much more impressive to me, even with his question marks, than an overager like Durzi dominating juniors.

With all that said, though, if the choice was packages versus just Durzi or Lil, I’m perfectly okay with it. Grundstrom is great, and a 1st is a 1st.

Because he's 33 with 4 years left, and it's the most difficult position to make a trade with.

We can only hope he does ask for that. Regardless of what the lower return would be. But he's not chasing Cups. He willingly took the money.

Or they're don't think Petersens ready to be the full timer.

I think in 2008-2009...who thought Quick was ready?

Change happens....and it's begun. Quick cannot play forever and there are no more cups to challenge for, for
the foreseeable 2-3 years, at least. By then, Quick is 35-36 and the Kings may be a bubble team.
Take a top prospect for him...or possible #1 (possible salary retained) and helps the future and
gives Quick another shot at a Cup.

Petersen is ready. Campbell is ready. Kings are moving on. They have to.

Lombardi didn't think so at the time and was forced to play him when Erik Ersberg got hurt and he had no other options. He wanted him to play another year in Manchester. Remember what happened to Bernier after he got shelled in Detroit after 10 games because EVERYONE thought he was ready too? There's no hurry to trade Quick.

One of mine is when Tkchuck line up next to him and tried to fight him, dropped the gloves and Muzzin looked at him and was like "what the F are you doing" then laughed at him.
