Totally get it. Just think Blake should keep the checkbook closed moving forward until there are prospects on this team that warrant the additional support. Hopefully the Kings nab one in June but I need more than someone like Hughes before Kings are going $10M++ on anyone.

I think that makes sense. The one interesting thing with our rebuild/retool is that we could jumpstart the team quicker considering we already have a 1C, 1D, and strong goaltending depth. Now its a matter of finding top 6 forwards because our bottom 6 looks really really good with Kempe, Wagner, Luff, Gundstrom, Kupari, JAD etc. I hope that Toffoli rebounds next year so that he can fill one of the top 6 voids. Also, if by some miracle Vilardi heals, that would be a nice surprise that could change our retool projections.

Honestly, it comes down to faith....obviously Blake has it in Grundstrom, but prospects are all about belief and faith, certain posters on here are absolutely over the moon about Kupari, not because what he has done, but what he might be able to do....

It was a good trade, that had to be done, but it's a tough trade to look at LA now and go....they are better because of it...they aren't....they are worse because of it....and that's ok because it's what they needed.

If Grundstrom flames out......that's huge.
Not sure because LA has a talent for developing D Men so I'm not sure it's all eggs in one basket. Plus there is the 1st.

I don’t think Kupari is a bottom six forward.

Damn, I am late to the party. I turn my back and the bull**** begins.

Would have liked to see LA pry Kapanen out of Toronto, but that was a pretty solid return by Blake.

We need to get younger, end of story.

I'd cry if we lost Kappy. He has more heart than most of our team put together. I think the overall consensus is this was a good trade for both parties. Best of luck with your rebuild!

Pretty solid trade for you guys, it seems the arms race has begun... if were going to catch you guys we are to make more impactful trades than cogs for shore... come on BM mix it up a bit fowler for 1st + 2 prospects... we will never catch the kings at this rate.

But as a neutral fan I like the trade from your perspective, I think grundstrom and durzi are nhl caliber players... and the 1st in a deep draft will be great... not to mention this makes you guys worse now which should keep you in the running for Hughes(who would be a great 1-2 punch with vilardi if he ever stays healthy).

Do you guys think Kupari will be moved potentially to the wing? For some reason I feel like a ____ Hughes Kupari line would be a lot of fun to watch.

Who else do you guys expect to move by the deadline... I know I read toffolis name a lot on the trade boards... idk how realistic that is... obviously kovalchuk woulud prob be nice to get moved if possible.

Kupari could be moved to wing, but much like Kempe there will be debates about where his best position is which I'm not looking forward to.

Other guys who could be moved? Hagelin for sure, probably Thompson, Carter is maybe, Martinez probably not, Toffoli seems unlikely due to his value being really low.

The only player that is guaranteed to be moved is Hagelin, but Carter, Quick, Martinez, Clifford, Lewis, Thompson and Toffoli are all possibilities. Phaneuf if there were takers, which there won't be.

For those interested, Mike Futa will be on Primetime Sports hosted by Bob McCowan (The Fan 590 Sportsnet Radio) in a few minutes.

They usually simulcast so it should be on one of the Sportsnet channels.

Futa on SN590 to discuss the Jake Muzzin trade.

It'll be interesting to see how Muzzin handles play in the Eastern Conference. I could see him getting the Larry Murphy treatment by Toronto media and fans.

While he's nearly ready to see some action in the upcoming week or two, I doubt any team will take a risk on him given that he hasn't played a single game this season.

I forgot you guys had haglin... def see a contender grabbin him

Sucks that he hasnt been able to up his value at all this year but I suppose im ok keeping him around, hes relatively cheap, has a ton of experience and doesn't take nights off like most of the rest of the team. If he would re-sign at the same cap hit for a few more years, id keep him.

There does need to be solid vets for the youth to learn proper habits from.

I'm not saying you *have* to keep these guys, but Clifford and Lewis do provide that at a low cost. They might be better served as a hold until the TDL of their impending UFA season.

I assume Brown/Phaneuf won't be moved so there is more of that veteran presence.

I feel, like others, that these guys lost their identity and the culture backslid a bit into the pre-DL world. That's a big part of liking the Grundstrom profile: seems to have character and grit. I know it was made fun of because of DL, but this team became real soft along the boards and is allergic to the high-traffic areas.

Man, Durzi is getting trashed by Leafs fans. No real surprise.

Guy has been up and down so I get it, but sheesh.

Passed over in draft after ankle injury/surgery....drafted at the end of the 2nd after blowing up...got sent back to juniors this year due to marlies overflowing with prospects and has relatively disappointed instead of dominating MORE, which could chalk up to anything, though he's been scoring at a massive pace since his trade, so shrug.

Definitely worth the swing as an additional asset. Nice getting a more 'sure' prospect in Grundstrom and a longer shot but high ceiling in Durzi.

Depending on who you talk to, Gundstrom is the better prospect, but then you chit chat it up with someone else and they say Durzi is the cats pajamas in the trade.

So who the hell knows at this point.

I will say, despite Villardi's glass back, I'm still happy we took/are taking a shot on him.

ty for posting this I now feel a lot better after hearing Futa talking about Durzi I think he sounds like something we need bad on a offensive right shot on defense other then Drew. Lets face it our pp has been a major weakness fora long time
