They probably did ask for an "A-Level" prospect.

So what? It is a negotiation. Not going to start at Grundstrom and settle for an even lower prospect.

Right, I'm sure they went to MTL (for example), said they wanted their 1st and Poehling or Suzuki and were quickly rebuffed.

As you said, negotiation.

If you want my truth Muzzin is the most overrated dman in the NHL, you can look through my post history I've been saying it forever. Playing him with Doughty somehow convinced people he's a #2 when he is really a #4. Just like Crosby turned a bunch of third liners into first liners by playing with them. I wish Muzzin best in Toronto but the media and fans there are going to eat his bad penalties and defensive brain farts alive.
He hasn't played with Doughty for 3 years now and has more than held his own on his own pair while covering for Martinez's mistakes. Yes, he takes dumb penalties and makes horrific mistakes from time to time. Guess who also does that? Drew Doughty. Obviously I'm not saying Muzzin is in the same class as Doughty but even the great Drew Doughty makes the dumbest of mistakes every now and then. If you ask me, Muzzin is one of the most underrated d-men in the NHL by fans. I don't understand how some people think Martinez has been better over their respective careers. It's not even close to who's better.

People do under sell this point. My wifes family last name Martinez, became interested in hockey simply because of his name. They all don Martinez sweaters these days.
I agree, I'd argue his jersey is the one I see most at Kings games.

Leaf fan coming in peace. The Grundstrom and Hornqvist comparison is legit. I’ve watched Grundstrom play and he’s a flat out effective grinder who can shoot and use his body. He’s a power forward.

Re: Muzzin. Do you see him more as a number 2,3 or 4 defensmen?

From what I read it seems like he’s a number 3 that has a decent two way game.

Hes a solid #3 and can play in all situations. I think his offensive numbers will go up playing on a better offensive team. He will make some boneheaded plays but his overall play will more than make up for them.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Hey guys, a little late to the party but wanted to chime in quickly. Grundstrom is a great addition for you guys. I think he is definitely an NHLer who should be a regular on your 3rd line, but can fill in on the 2nd line. He was terrific with the Marlies. He was long seen and being groomed as our Komarov replacement, who could probably provide more offence then Leo. Durzi seems to have great potential. He is an older prospect when he was drafted which may make him look better than he actually is. But he seems very solid and has a very important right shot. Sad to lose them both, but happy they are in a better situation that will give them a better shot. You have to give to get, and I will be rooting for them going forward. Especially with Carl who is very close to being an NHL regular. Cheers!

Personally I see him as more of a #2 because of his ability to play big all-situation minutes which helps and amplifies his #1. Think TJ Brodie. If he's on the 2nd pairing sure, even better, but there are very few guys I would take on a top pairing that aren't legit #1s over Muzzin. I think the things preventing him from being a low-end #1 are consistency and dynamism. He's very vanilla.

Did you just make up a new word?

Saw a quote from an exec in an article this morning saying Muzzin doesn't do anything exceptionally well but he does everything pretty well which is basically my assessment of him as well. He isn't fast, he isn't the most physical of players, his shot isn't great (although really good), his vision is just good, his IQ is good-awful depending on the moment but he does do everything pretty well. He's a great #3 or a solid #2 with a legit #1. He can't lead a defense by himself but he'll sure as hell solidify it.

For years the Kings have had problems scoring goals. It's time for them to use their draft picks to select snipers. They have enough 2 way forwards, grinders, and play makers. They could also use some tough power forwards also.

What I like about his shot or even Martinez's over Drew is their ability to get it through traffic and on net. Who cares if you can bomb it wide and into the boards (Dion)

he's got that top corner dart he throws every so often too if he's given a lot of time and space

i don't think it's common enough to count it as one of his "skills" but it's a tool in the toolbox

And he actually looks for and can execute the shot pass.

Kings will not turn down good offers for Martinez simply because he might sell jerseys.

I don't see an abnormal amount of Martinez jerseys at games. 11/8/23/32 still set the pace.

I have a Martinez jersey and I'd drive him to the airport for a 1st round pick. And boy, I must have left the barn door open last time I posted here because some vermin got in and started crapping in this thread!
