Who? Oh right, the grab a soda guy. Better forgotten.
I get it lad, not your cup of tea. However there’s more to him than just Soda and Lanterns. His later stuff is insightful, sometimes heart wrenching and naturally loaded with hooks. All good to each his own brother!

On your Rush comment , I will choose to ignore it :huh:

Any insight as to why?
Not very good to awful bands that mimicked their American counterparts so in turn they offered nothing new to excite a listener.

I can get down with some April Wine in passing, but sign of the gypsy queen sounds like a blue oyster cult b-side, and say hello sounds like second rate Steve Miller (even though I enjoy that song a lot). All of this is subjective of course, but that’s what my ears hear. I feel like so much 70’s cancon suffers from a lack of originality, and just being disingenuous music made to try to make it big in the USA.

While I really liked April Wine (especially the early stuff), I can hear them Americanizing their sound later on.

The problem in the 70's is that Canada did not have a music industry on the distribution side. They relied on the big US companies to do that. There was no promotion of bands or albums here.

That is why Rush issued their first album on their own label Moon Records. It was only because a DJ in Cleveland heard them , played them and then introduced their music to a rep from Polygram who was in Chicago. That is how they got their record deal.

Many Canadian bands never got that break.

Good thing we have Québec to save the day. :sarcasm: Asides from the corny translations of American hits, we have some good original stuff come out of here. Even way back in the 60's, we had Les Gants Blancs, les Sinners, Mahogany Rush, this one band, Les Excentriques, were something else. Their big hit was a translation of the Beach Boy's Fun Fun Fun, called Fume fume fume. It was hilarious but made them rich. They were all pink, suits, hair, guitars, they even had a pink Caddy, we passed them on the autoroute heading up North. The Sinners were also a good little band, their Penny Lane was cool.

Did you know Genesis was huge success in Québec, years before the Americans figured them out.

Prog Rock has always been huge in Quebec. Genesis, Gentle Giant , Yes , ELP , King Crimson and of course Pink Floyd.

I am not sure why it is like that here.

April Wine had some good stuff but they did go to commercial, but that's what gave them a chance to do world tours in arenas.

Drummer from April Wine prior to joining them. Know how they got their name?lol

I really liked April Wine especially before they made it “BIG” in the lower 48. Loved the combination of Myles and Jimmy Clench on vocals, I really loved Jimmy’s voice! Very underrated vocalist also brought a much needed spark to BTO after Randy left! RIP Big Jim, you were great!!!
