Not needing YouTube for Dire Straits, the band of my 83-84 years, I loved them dearly. Brilliant instrumatically and the vocals always stunning. Well before appearances were ultimate but at the same time benefitting from the power of video. Perhaps the only band I could do lead vocals for accurately...

I'm not sure who shattered the notion of the three minute single, perhaps Queen, but Dire Straits most surely took it to heart. The first two songs are beyond brilliant pieces of music. Headphones almost required, volume up and lose yourself in the music. I'd argue the classical composers would be proud of the first two at the very least and would be toe-tapping for the third.

Last song is arguably my favorite song of all time. The North American video release. British version is visually distinct.

Since I mentioned it, the British version (original) is the first video below.

And since I mentioned arguably the favorite of all time the second song below say F you, this is better. I'm disinclined to argue. Perhaps the only song I've ever pulled over when driving to close my eyes and listen to.

The third song is bloody brilliant, so much so I've posted it twice within minutes. I dedicate this one to @kanadalainen and his love of Shakespeare. A most excellent interpretation and adaptation of a classical literary story. The video is poor and I much prefer the version posted above but hey, 1980.

Fantastic band. Walk of Life brings back great memories (even though I was born after Dire Straits broke up, I fondly reminisce about listening to that song all the time as a kid), Money For Nothing has one of the greatest rock guitar riffs in history, and Sultans of Swing is arguably a Top 25 song of all time.

Another album on CD that I have ...

"More Than A Feeling" is an absolutely beautiful song, and probably best-in-class in the rock and roll "music that takes you back".

And since we're on the topic of songs about the nostalgic power of music:

"I'm young, I'm wild, and I'm free"

(Nowadays, I should follow it up with "...well, I was, but now I'm oh-foooor-three!"

And as for songs I listen to a lot more when I feel like feeling nostalgic:

Aside from the incredible sound, the way the guitar and bass and drums just OOZE sleepiness, I frankly can't imagine a better lyric that summarizes my middle age drowse than:
"Waves of alternatives wash at my sleepiness;
... have my eggs poached for breakfast, I guess?"

Thanks for posting these @buggs ...

Love Dire Straits...

You mentioned headphones almost required... because you want to turn it up... if you want to not turn it up and make digital files sparkle try Dynamic Audio Compression... see this article regarding what it does... The Complete Guide to Audio Compression – Icon Collective

I don't like wearing headphones... so in order to listen to My sound "loud" I use Dynamic Audio Compression... I was taught to use it in sound reinforcement situations to not break Local Decibel Code in different public venues... aka Loud without the decibels...

I bought a program years ago for My PC called MediaMonkey Gold and loaded in an Output Plugin that does Dynamic Audio Compression... this is the program I listen to all My music...

I am not sure the DAC Output Plugin is even available anymore... haven't researched it in years... but possibly there is another...

To make a long story shorter... I use a Klipsch ProMedia 5 channel system all rebuilt and re-coned including subwoofer along with this software and connected to My PC with a StarTech 24 bit external USB3 Sound unit...

The sound I want to hear is elevated without the decibels... ensure the components are equally spaced at the focal point (you) and it makes a big difference...

Just an Fyi...

I kinda of dig this song however the ongoing guitar rift is very familiar to me. Could be old disco song. Hoping someone here can recognize the rift rip off and name the song. It's been driving me crazy.

Good song. I don't recognize the opening bass line, could be disco.

Seeing the Neighbourhood made me think of one of their tunes.

And in honor of my post in the OT thread about the old "Numbers Racket" that the mob ran, here's a great song from Wynonie Harris, back in the late 40s, talking about this very thing:

(You can see the evidence of my "three number format" claims in the last line; my understanding is also that '3-6-9' was significant due to a very popular skipping-rope song by African-American children of the time -- three-six-nine, the goose drank the wine)

On a personal note.. I (as you might have guessed) got into a whole lot of 40s and 50s music through the Fallout video games.. I got into them just late enough that I never got a chance to talk to my parents about how much of their music I enjoyed.. well, they'd probably say it was their parents music, but they'd at least have recognized it :P
