Well Minnesota will lose Brodin if they leave him unprotected. So here is the deal, why not offer up a pick and Juulson for him. Then they get a prospect and future pick which is better than zero. There are teams that will be losing a good Dman if they can't deal with Vegas. The scary thing is I think the Pens would be smart to offer something up to grab a guy like Brodin. The Pens really don;t have the best D besides Letang so Brodin would be a great fit for them.

I don't disagree. I just hope MB isn't going to do something stupid like move Galchenyuk for Brodin or another D. If we want to get Brodin like you said Juulsen + pick. Then we still have a pletora of picks and Galchenyuk to move for that C we covet. It's time to mortgage the future IMO. I know a lot of people will be upset I say that but frankly I'd rather go all in and lose the future than status quo, at least one way can lead to a cup while the other will not, and both ways end up with needing to rebuild anyways in the end.

How is it realistic in any way shape or form for him to fix everything this offseason

Essentially what you guys are saying is you expect him to make this team better than the Stanley Cup finalist (who both had fixes on their rosters) come October.

I mean how is this remotely possible???

Firstly, Bergevin has been at it for 5 years. So it's not about doing it over 1 off season, it's about the overall result over 5 seasons.

Secondly, this off season is an unique opportunity because there's more movement than ever because of the expansion draft.

Thirdly, we have a **** ton of cap room, and the habs should always spend to the cap minus 1-3M for deadline purposes.

Finally, it's not about what's realistic it's about what needs to happen for us to contend. We have a window given the state of our team. If, as you think, it's not realistic to turn this team into a legit cup contender, then we should rebuild. Because guys like Price, Patch and Weber aren't getting better and they're the cornerstones of our team.

That means you're giving a pick (a 1st?), Juulson and Beaulieu for Brodie.

Lehkonen - Drouin - Radulov
Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Hudon - Danault - Byron
De la Rose - Mitchell - McCarron

(Plekanec to LV, Shaw to whatever team overvalues him)

Leave Drouin and Chuck at centre for the whole year, defensive issues or not. In the end the team will be better for it.

So Bergevin knew he wouldnt re-sign Radu due to his ridiculous demands, he reacts by trading the future of this franchise at the blueline for a Radulov replacement.. Sure Drouin is younger and has more potential than Radulov, but how does it solve our ****ing problem down the middle?? Who is going to replace Markov in 2 years from now? Who will move the puck on that old blueline, Beaulieu? :help:

If Bergevin is done for the summer and doesnt make any other major moves to really make the Habs a contender short term, trading Sergachev for Drouin doesnt make any sense, the guy is either a perfect idiot or just wants to safe his job as long as possible by making popular moves that will at the end hurt the Habs ALOT mid and long term..

As of right now, it looks like total improvisation from Bergevin.. It just looks like a guy who has alot of pressure on the shoulders to win now and no real plans.. Hopefully he makes me wrong and makes some other signifiant moves to change this team in contender cause as of right now, we still dont have a real top 6 center yet and our blueline isnt getting any faster..

Yzerman used Bergevin perfectly to get exactly what he wanted for Drouin, a young and cheap bluechip D prospect who will do wonders with Hedman as partner for years to come..

Drouin is here for the next 6 years, Sergachev is possibly a Bolt for the next 15 years.. Think about that.

Sergachev has all the tools to become an elite defenseman at the NHL level, I would say that he possesses higher ceiling than Drouin, I can envision him becoming the complete package who excels in all three zones. At the opposite, mainly due to his size, Drouin is more restricted in a purely offensive role. Sergachev has the size, the speed, the shot, the IQ and you can add to that exceptional work ethic, he is anything you can desire in a NHL Dman. That being said, Dmen take longer to develop, so are harder to project, he is going to become a good NHL player for sure, however reaching the elite status never is a guarantee. From Drouin side, he isn't as complete as Sergachev could be, however he excels more in his strengths, his offensive IQ and puck skill are completely off the chart, very few player can create offense like Drouin can do, if he could only put up half the numbers he did in the QMJHL at the NHL level, Drouin would be one of the most productive forward in the NHL (Last season in the Q: Reg. season+Playoff+MCup: 66-43-115-158 -50%-> 66-22-57-79).

All in all, it seems like a pretty even deal that makes sense for both sides with each team addressing one of their biggest need, TB got a bit higher ceiling in Sergachev and MTL got a bit more guaranteed value in a older and more proven young NHL player. Like for any deal, only time will tell who got the short end of the stick.

Do you seriously think Julien will let it go??

Drouin down the middle is worth a decent look but dont fix your hopes too high, he played LW most of his carreer..

I'm sorry but this is terrible! Julien is going to die from a heart attack before the 10th game of the season...

However, if we end up trading Chucky to balance out this move, I think it's a wait and see for me. Hopefully we keep both and let them grow together into the dynamic duo. Even though Drouin is a local boy, the Habs are still Chucky's team and it's going to take a very good offensive output (80+ points) from Drouin to overcome that in my opinion.

I'm also not a super fan of how Drouin has handle himself so far professionally, but I guess giving him a clean slate to see how he handles himself as a star player in Montreal is the only thing we can do.

The Habs are not Chucky's team, it's Carey Price's team. :help:

I would also argue that Drouin is a much better player to build your team around with than Galchenyuk. While Drouin has that ability to make the players around him better, Galchenyuk does not. He is way more creative and versatile offensively. He has good acceleration, is amazing at deking and controlling the puck at top speed, is great at finding open space and can slow the play down to create plays for his teammates. Drouin is much better at carrying, stickhandling, protecting the puck and creating plays; he can literally drive the offense by himself. Galchenyuk doesn't do that, he needs good players to play with and feed him the puck. He can't really drive the offense by himself and gets knocked off the puck more easily.

I'll leave it at that as I don't want to turn this thread into a Galchenyuk vs. Drouin discussion. They play on the same team and are both skilled players in their own rights. If anything, he'll make Galchenyuk a better player if they get to play together. I'm happy that Drouin is a Habs and this contract is reasonable both in terms of length and dollar amount. Last year, Radulov became the most talented forward Montreal has had in a while. Today, this player is Drouin.

A 1-2 center punch made of Drouin and Galchenyuk is what the Habs have been lacking for years.

They are lucky to have both.

Think about what exactly, that logic is not your strong suit?

Drouin is 22 - why is he only a Hab for six while Sarge is a Bolt for 15?

Does Sarge not get to UFA status?

Can the Bolts sign 15 year contracts?

Drouin's career will be over at 28 - when his current deal is over and in his prime?

Tell me what do I need to think about.

Tbh I'd rather have Dumba. I like Brodin but this is the first year he ever broke 20 assists. I think Dumba could be a quality young player for years to come who seems to only be getting better.

Wouldn't cry if we got Brodin either tho.

Dumba is a RD though and wouldn't fit on the team.

Though I'd love to see the fan reaction if Bergevin goes and acquires a black offensive RD a year after trading Subban

I don't see what this move has to do with Radulov. The two are 100% separate. We have the cap room for both, and Drouin for Sergachev in our situation, with or without Radulov is a move you make 10/10. I love how you try to make a false equivalence and compare Radulov with Drouin. Great logic. :sarcasm:

Then you go on about if Bergevin is done for the summer.. THE SUMMER JUST STARTED. Literally, this is the actual first meaningful move of the off season...

Also, why is Drouin here for 6 and Sergacehv there for 15 ?

What a joke. You've instantly lost all credibility with this asinine one way sky is falling post as far as I'm concerned.

Some people around here...

You can look it the other way and say, Radulov carry this team offense on his shoulder, some support in Drouin might convince him to stay and fuel his believe that this team could potentially win a cup in the short term. Also, Drouin might be the type of center Radulov would be looking forward playing with.

In fact, if Tampa handle the situation well, they could sign Sergachev to a 8 yrs deal when he is about 24 yrs old, what leads to 32 years old in the same organization.. Why didnt Bergevin sign Drouin for 8 yrs instead of 6 exactly?? I dont understand the logic??

Balanced post. But the bold part is exactly why this deal makes sense for Montreal since we're in win now mode.

Weber like PK was a second round pick......we have to get lucky one of these days at the draft table???

I know our player development has sucked but sometimes your pick pans out regardless of the circus trying to teach them?

One can only hope.

I think Mete can be that guy honestly. He looks amazing in the OHL.
