As I've mentioned, this trade is quite myopic. In the short term the Canadiens get the better defender in Weber but the D-Man position as Karlsson has shown is multifaceted. I doubt Ottawa would trade Karlsson for Webber even though Webber is the better defender.

I think lots of people will be mad at Bergevin and that anger is misplaced. That anger should be directed more so towards ownership than management. what is the downside to Bergevin if Webber does not perform and decline with age - unemployment; Canadiens - a deep-rooted fabric of its brand gone!

Lastly, though Webber is the better defensive defender and one could argue a marginal improvement on the #1D spot; the Canadiens quest for lord Stanley trophy was not been inhibited by subban been in Canadiens lineup, but rather, a poor front 6. Webber for subban does not change that.

That guy sounds like he's in love with the sound of his own voice.

I don't trust him one bit.
Me, either. Why trust a guy who seems intent on poisoning the well? Marinaro sounds crazy. Montreal's time "is now." With what?

Hey sorry if this was posted already. Tony Marinaro said some interesting things on the radio about PK. If true, it seems he was a cancer and major distraction in the dressing room and the habs covered up the incidents to avoid harming his trade value?

It's so pathetic when teams try to throw players they just traded under the bus. Everyone gets called a "cancer" once they're traded, i doubt its true even half the time.

Subban is very lucky to move on to a better team and less hostile city/media.

Habs clearly win this.....right now.

Weber is a complete tank. You trade for a warrior over a great over all defenseman every single time.

Habs GM- " we put Subban on the block"

Preds GM- "we offer Shea We..."
Luckily for the Preds they're trying to win hockey games not invade the Soviet Union.

Exactly. Frankly, I suspect Pacioretty was jealous despite wearing the C, no one gave a damn. There was actually an incident where media rushed towards Subban and outright ignored Pacioretty, save for one reporter. That, apparently, pissed him off. Subban is a flamboyant and interesting guy to talk to, whereas most players are boring as Bergevin is stupid.

I feel so bad for Weber. Life was going good on a young and upcoming team and now he goes to hell where everything he does will be scrutinized

The initial reaction was shock and disbelief. I seriously believed Subban was sticking around. But, I quickly got over it because I'm happy we got Shea Weber in return. He's not a nobody. He's a #1 defenseman, one of the best in the league, hardest shot (PK's is no laughing matter either), logs in 27-30 minutes a night, is bigger, stronger, meaner, is sound defensively, can produce offensively, a Canadian international, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, an NHL all-star. Habs didn't trade PK for Marc Methot here. Weber is a stud.

After the season Habs had, fans should have expected changes, no matter the magnitude (I was convinced PK would not be a casualty of that, but he was). One of the glaring issues was their lack of leadership, Habs are aiming to rectify that. No one can dispute Weber's leadership qualities. Veteran NHL captain, respected by teammates, the league, officials, who happens to have just won the Mark Messier Leadership Award last week. All of his Team Canada experience, rubbing shoulders with the Crosbys, Doughtys, Toews, and Getzlafs of the world adds to his leadership. I welcome that. I know PK has a gold medal as well, and he deserves it. But he only participated once and had a small role. Weber was a key member for the squad since 2010.

Subban is an amazing and spectacular hockey player. He is very easy to like as a fan. He's a great human being and has an extremely charming and charismatic personality. But his issues in the dressing room was what truly caused his departure, in my opinion. Ever since his arrival in the NHL, he's rubbed his teammates, coaching staff, and management the wrong way consistently since his debut 6 years ago (and we're taking about all types of different teammates, different coaching staffs, and different management groups.) He has a very individualistic viewpoint on many occasions. A lot of Me's and I's in his statements. One of his first statement during a conference call with Nashville media, PK says that the Preds' defence just got better. Not the kind of comments that wins you over in the dressing room when you basically say they were worse before. In post-game interviews, every player is wearing Canadiens apparel (as do all players of each team), Subban takes the Habs jersey off and sports Subban apparel for his interviews right away. Fans might not care, players and organizations do. Hockey being a team sport and about more than just what happens on the ice, if you're toxic in the dressing room, you're not sticking around.

With his NMC kicking in on Friday, if there was any time to trade him, it was now. Especially when you can get Shea Weber in return.

I would have loved to see PK stick around, but I'm not crying over spilled milk. I'm a fan of Subban, but a bigger fan of the Canadiens. And right now, Shea Weber is a Hab, and I'm happy about it.

When Bergevin decided to remove all doubt that he's a complete incompetent, I wished he had picked something that wasn't going to cripple the franchise even for his successor.

The contracts alone would make this a bad deal even if Weber was better than Subban. Which he is not and it's not particulrly close.

Often times, you can tell a defense men's play by how he plays with the puck. Weber hasn't looked comfortable skating with the puck for a couple year. A few, even. He can still score, tractor bucket loads worth, but he's faded in terms of effectiveness. He's still big, and he still has that long active stick, but there'll be a noticeable difference for Montreal getting the puck out of their own end, especially on the right side, since Weber would prefer to pass the puck off to whomever's on his left side.

Nashville, on the other hand, will see their on-ice chances and scoring increase whenever Subban's on the ice. Subban with Josi will be a deadly combination to their opposition, because they will simply torch any forecheck to cinders.

In all honesty, the Preds seem like legitimate contenders, now. Especially if they fix their goaltending, or if Rinne rounds out back into his old form.

Preds will regret this trade I think.

Not because PK is a bad player, but because he is unmanageable and bigger than his team.
