I actually really like this deal for Montreal for the first three to four years. Weber is an awesome two way guy and is solid in the dressing room. I think he will be even more of a force in the east. Also there has to be some truth that Subban was causing tension in the locker room and weber seems to be an awesome leader so they win there.

Where I absolutely think Montreal gets robbed is in the years five+ of this weber deal. His contract will become a huge burden on their cap most likely while Subban should still be playing at a very high level. Hopefully Weber ages well but overall I think Montreal loses this deal just not as bad as some people are saying.

This "Weber is an excellent two-way" narrative needs to end. His shot suppression numbers are awful. What's he very good at it is driving offense. Getting shots and goals.

Weber is what people think Subban is: a pure offensive defenseman.

I like it for the Habs. Weber is pretty friggin good and frankly as an Ottawa fan way more afraid of weber than PK in the playoffs.

When I get in class, and less than 10 minutes later everything happens...... Wow. Insane trades today

I still can't believe this happened. Holy freaking crap. Unbelievable. God it's gonna suck facing Weber instead of Subban 5, 6 times a year whatever it is. Habs fans don't think so but this deal makes them such a better team than with Subban. No offense but the guy was a high scoring player but not a true shutdown player. Weber on the other hand is.

You would be right if you were talking about 2010-2013 Weber. 2016 Weber aint that good anymore. Nash won this deal heavily

Btw .. weber is turning 31 in august while subban turned 27 last month.. Thats 4 years.

Terrible trade for MTl

Weber can easily retire early and screw over the Preds with recapture penalties, and they still did it, while being fully aware of that.

Shows how bad of a deal it is for MTL

Do your research. Subban leads Weber in almost every category except goals.

What category?

1) Power play goals? nope

2) Points? not really

3) Turnovers? not a chance

4) Hits (body checks)? Don't think so

5) Blocked shots? not even close

What else?

What is he a 15 year old girl? It's business, you can't hold grudges and put your personal opinion over the team. So stupid.

I wouldn't be surprised if grudges were held. Remember Roy? Remember Cammalleri? This franchise has a history of not handling sticky situations well.

Yes "idea" because even that is giving it too much credit. Declining at 29? El oh el

Well if you're going to ignore all the facts and evidence right there and call it an 'idea', then sure go ahead.

Yeah, Heatley, Girardi, Richards won't decline, they're only 29. El oh el

Holy ****! All the exciting stuff happens when I'm at work!

Honestly I'm gonna miss Subban in the Arlantic division. Can't believe the Habs dealt him before ridding the team of Therrien.

Shea Weber is no slouch though, old, but still pretty damn good, so at least they got value for him, but still, damn. Today's been nuts.

This is just absolutely ridiculous. Can anyone tell me what we have witnessed in the last 1 or 2 hours? Unbelievable.

I am not even going to comment on this right now... all I am going to say... Weber until 2026, Weber until he is 40. His contract is just terrible. Plus he will be 31 by the start of the season.

This "Weber is an excellent two-way" narrative needs to end. His shot suppression numbers are awful. What's he very good at it is driving offense. Getting shots and goals.

Weber is what people think Subban is: a pure offensive defenseman.

How do you support your statement? I look at the stats and Weber has twice as much blocked shots as Subban (160 vs 80) ... I love Weber as a pure offensive D!!

I get why Nashville did it, but even they have concerns (Weber's contract). I would easily take Subban over Weber at this point. Unless Subban really was a big problem?

To all the so-called experts out there that call Bergevin names, I am asking:

1) Who is a member of the Canadian team at this year's world cup?

2) Who is a true leader capable of keeping the team tight and united?

3) Who does not have a NTC?

4) Who takes the lesser cap hit?

5) Who's better on the Power Play?

6) Who's got the best physical presence in his own end?

7) Who is creating much less turnovers?

To those that confuse on ice effectiveness with "flashyness" ... think you know who gets the better end of the deal? Think again.

1) Who is a member of the Canadian team at this year's world cup?
Thats not really a good argument. Kronwall and Strålman made Team Sweden, but Klingberg and Lindholm didnt. Are you saying you would have one of them on your team instead of Klingberg/Lindholm in the NHL? Nah.

2) Who is a true leader capable of keeping the team tight and united?
What are you basing this on? international success? Cant be success in the NHL - he didnt get Nashville anywhere clode to a cup with his "leadership"

3) Who does not have a NTC?

4) Who takes the lesser cap hit?

5) Who's better on the Power Play?
Meh, debatable. Webers had more to work with.

6) Who's got the best physical presence in his own end?
Did Pittsburgh need that "physical presence" in their recent cup win? No

7) Who is creating much less turnovers?

Think again

This had nothing to do with hockey. I'm not saying race was a factor, but there wwere obvious politics involved with this decision. You don't trade an elite 27yr old Dman for a 31yr old whose clearly played his best games. This deal is going to look terrible in a short period. I give it 3 years and this will be regarded as on of the worst trades of all time. It absolutely gets MB and MT fired.

Im not sure i understand this.... I guess weber is only 30, but still the habs better be ready to win in the next three years with this trade, long term its in Nashville's favor....

Haven't read through the first thread, was this a one-for-one trade? If so, I'm a bit surprised.

Btw .. weber is turning 31 in august while subban turned 27 last month.. Thats 4 years.

The age factor is probably the single biggest factor why Nashville wins this by a huge margin.. you just don't trade equally good player where the other player is several years older, that's bad GMing at its core.

To be frank, this could have totally come down to which type of player you want Mikhail Sergachev to grow beside. I chose Weber every time. Sergachev has serious potential and I can't wait to see

Sergachev - Weber
Beaulieu - Juulsen
Mete-Petry
