He is a fighter and skilled in intimidation tactics and highly questionable in his sportsmanship. He fits into Julien's style that worked so well for him with the Bruins - a team that bullies the opposition into underperforming. Habs are going to be the big bad Bruins.

Their PIMs/game is more than the two guys Bergevin shipped out last year in Eller and Subban, both of whom developed their own reputation for inopportune penalties.

Shaw has 97 PIMs this year. A career high for him, and in only 50 games. Ott has 63 PIMs in 42 games playing only ten minutes a night.

I suggest fighting your crusade with some better points. Your not some better person being a contrarian for the sake of being one.

I suggest you dig deeper into those numbers and not just jump to conclusions without having a clue.

Took a quick look at ALL NHL, not just Timmins.

Historically, I would say you have a 1/45 chance of getting an eventual NHLer in the 6th round. It really is nothing.

Ott could maybe be useful, if not, sit him.

But we only have Timmins drafting for the Habs. So to look at other teams picks is disingenuous. We have to compare apples to apples.

Ott is significantly better than all of Timmins 6th rounders.

I like this trade. In fact, I've liked all the trades these past couple of days. They gave up very little, but added some nice depth on D, and added some sand paper with faceoff prowess. Obviously I hope they do something to address scoring, but not bad at all so far.

exactly, we just much harder to play against in this last week, adding Benn (who play a good tough game last night btw), removing DD, adding Ott (who fits as a 4th line grinder/face off guy...guys you need going into a tougher playoff game mode. Also adding another decent sized guy in Davidson (depth I know...but still)

If we can add more offense today in the top 6, I think you will see this team perform along with a real coach actually coaching and making in game adjustments and playing a possession based system....its coming....I promise. But we do need help up front...

because it is a embarrassing trade, a major problem coming our way,

last time I post on this, must move on, and hope MB has something better to come

I said in the other thread. The most benefit he will bring is through injuring an opponent's sacred cow, with his penalty kill and faceoffs being distant tertiary benefits.

sportsmanship, is not his best suit.....too bad it's in the CH he will prefrom

Oh, if you care about sportsmanship, why did you want PK here? His on-ice antics were as pathetic as Otts.

This team is ranked #19 in PK percentage at 80.4%. Benn and Ott are both really good penalty killers. So their additions should help in that department. The fact Ott can win big defensive zone face offs on the PK, in itself is a plus for this team.

Our 4th line is probably better with Ott.. but our problem and needs are not on the 4th line.

When we brought Flynn and Mitchell.. we already had Prust, Malhotra, DLR.. and we said we needed depth.

Now we still Flynn and Mitchell plus McCarron..

I get it.. its DEPTH.. DEPTH.. but how important is depth on the fourth line. I don't see Ott as a difference maker.

Wrong. He's an agitator and skilled at ticking people off or injuring an opposing player. But guys are more than willing to drop the gloves and usually the linesman steps in to save Ott's bacon, not the other way around. He usually loses or fights to a draw.

We were meaner back then. Prust, Bouillon. Both handled Ott fine back when Ott was in Buffalo. Shawn Thornton would destroy Steve Ott any day.

Good.

I'm tired of being the little engine that could, always taking shots and turning the other cheek.

We need a dbag like him on the Habs roster because we have too many nice guys, too easy to play against.

Never liked Ott for the type of player he was, but he can help out this team by being even more gritty than Shaw.

Shaw = 100 grit sandpaper

Ott = 60 grit sandpaper

Ott's value is in taking players off the ice, be it from agitating or injuring. He does not scare people. He annoys people or makes them angry. Being truly hard to play against is by suffocating the opponent's offense or scoring on his own behalf.
