Good pick. Mitchell has been very quiet lately and Flynn is MIA. Time to rejuvenate the 4rth line with some energetic pest. I'll take the unecessary penalties over the generally subpar inconsequent play of these two.

Hate, hate, hate this. Hated him from his time as a Spitfire.

To be fair if he's not hated than he's not doing his job. I always hated facing Steve Ott because he gets under the skin of opposing teans like when he licked Jeff Halpern's visor. Between him Gally and Shaw Habs have three annoying players to play against which Julien knows how to deploy them.

Gallagher is not annoying. He's been irrelevant all season long.

Gallagher annoys because he crashes the net and smiles afterwards, but I don't believe he's in any level near professional agitators like Roussel, vintage Ott, or Lapierre.

But Ott's offense is as good as dead and that was what used to make him a complelling player to acquire. Now he is all agitation but if his defense is lacking, then he's just another boat anchor.

Man, our fourth line peak with Prust, Moen, and Weise and that got quickly dismantled by Kevan Miller and we have been progressively downgrading ever since. Bergevin might hunt for grinders, but he has no eye for effective ones sans Prust.

ott is a player that brings bad press to whatever team he plays with,

why?

What the hell are you going on about.

Saying Ott is not a good player or that he's not enough in our situation is fine. But coming up with crap like this is ridiculous. The guy has already been an NHL team's captain. I guess he does something right.

Character.

Intangibles.

But his putrid playoffs point production is something to behold.

The only way Ott is useful is that when he's taking penalties, he takes off an opposing skill player at the same time. Otherwise, he's just going to put us on our terrible penalty kill and help us lose games.

Quintessential BargainBin here.

Saw the thing at the bottom of the bin, asked for a rebate, got the thing.

Ott is essentially more ham for the playoff meat grinder. Nothing more. I just hope he won't do anything utterly stupid, because he could cost us. He's got potential to be a litteral minus for us.

Not sure I like this. Mostly inconsequential, with downside.

He's a pretty good penalty killer and in the faceoffs dot. That adds something to our "terrible penalty kill".

On an average of one in 5 times, Ott will cost us a goal given our current penalty killing percentage.

If the team wants to play the agitating game, it must have a good penalty kill or else the goals against become too severe of a punishment.

The real issue with this team is that it STRUGGLES MASSIVELY ON THE ROAD and you need players that can handle that.

It's a myth that he's taking a lot of penalties, same thing with Shaw.
Their PIMs/game is more than the two guys Bergevin shipped out last year in Eller and Subban, both of whom developed their own reputation for inopportune penalties.

Shaw has 97 PIMs this year. A career high for him, and in only 50 games. Ott has 63 PIMs in 42 games playing only ten minutes a night.

I suggest fighting your crusade with some better points. Your not some better person being a contrarian for the sake of being one.

Ott also has 7 fighting majors. That's 35 minutes. So 28 minutes is nothing to write home about for physical 4th liner.
Shaw also has one game where he had as much as 20 PIMs IIRC.

In fact, Shaw has 15 minor penalties, and Ott has 14. For reference purposes, Pacioretty, Byron, Mitchell and Gallagher are in this range too.
