Um, 21 year old 6'4 top 6 forward who can play centre and isn't playing soft at all or 13th overall pick.

Still pretty bad for Chicago
13th overall... plus better shots at getting Bedard/Fantelli plus Callibrini/whoever the next year.

It is always big picture. It's odd to me people ignore that like with Boston trading Thornton impacting caproom for Chara. Or Buffalo when tanking for Mcdavid/Eichel in the Kane/Myers/Bogosian trade got injured players in return. Yeah, they wanted less talent on their roster to be bad on purpose.

It could go like Buffalo for Chicago, I think any tank team should expect to win nothing but 1 round for 7 years, but they had so little prospects or talent to do much else but soarch the earth deliberately.

The Hawks had DeBrincat, Dylan Strome, Kubalik,
and Kirby Dach last year and it was only good enough for 6th worst in the NHL.

They pretty much HAD to tear it down.
Also expecting Kirby to develop with this shit team would be unrealistic. He wouldn't be having this success in Chicago. The talent pool at the NHL level is so barren that it even makes Patrick Kane look ordinary.

a franchise center would be 6th in a redraft? must be the best nhl draft ever.
How many centers do you see above him right now ?
Let me tell you, he is 23rd best center in the league right now, and there are 32 franchises if I am not mistaken.
And he is 23... On rebuilding team. With linemates younger than him.

At which position was Bergeron drafted ? (Pretending not to know...)

not every franchise has a franchise center. that's not what the term means. i think you are thinking of a #1c

It's a lottery man. Getting an extra 2-5% isn't enough to let go of a 21yo top 6 center you just drafted at 3.

Dach wasn't going to make the Hawks a playoff team by himself.

Every franchise has a franchise player. That is a player that your franchise can build (or have built) around for the foreseeable future, and every team is building around someone.

So you're right, not every team has a franchise center, but every team does have a franchise player. How about you name teams that you don't think qualify for that and I'll reply back with who it is just to get you started off.
