If Montreal found a Hyman for their Suzuki/CC who the f*** cares what he does away from them?

He could be a Jr. A player when he isn’t on the ice with Nick and Cole and it still wouldn’t matter, because guess what?

When he is on one them, they are one of the best lines in hockey and no one has a gun to anyones head saying Dach isn’t allowed to play with.

So why did the Habs pay so much to get him? Didn’t they give up a star young D (Romanov) to get the first rounder to acquire Dach?
Romanov is a solid 4th or 5th defenseman, good player but hardly a star.

Dach has looked like a dominant top-6 winger. His points are just one part of his contribution. I don't know if the Habs are planning to transition him to C, but I'd be very happy if he continues doing what he's doing alongside Suzuki and Caufield.

If others are laughing about the Dach pickup and the Hab fans have been delighted from it what's that tell you about the laughing fans?

I watched that Jersey game and it seemed like Romanov dominated. To me he looked to be play top minutes on the Islander’s D. He and ?Dach are both very young and still learning. If Dach could play centre that would be better. Personally I’d rather have the D man. But If Dach does develop into a check8ng 50-60 point centre then I’d like that too.

Romanov is 5th in average TOI on the islanders for dmen.

Mind you, it's very close:

Pelech 20:49
Dobson 20:28
Pulock 20:05
Mayfield 19:59
Romanov 19:53
Aho 14:21
Salo 12:38

Also, he's second for EV TOI, at 17:42, 2 seconds behind Pelech at 17:44.

It's pointless listening to some people. They make up their minds they don't like a player regardless what he does on the ice.

I think we all know it has more to do with the team he's on . On another team doing what he has been doing this season posters would say he was a steal.

Habs didn't waste the 3rd OA pick for him. The Hawks did.
Ya it didn't turn out for the Hawks but he's coming around for the Habs and making himself look like he is worth Romanov or the 13 OA pick in the last draft. That's all that matters to the Habs.

I think Romanov's ceiling is a solid 2nd pairing "defensive" LD. He will not get you a lot of points, but he's physical and plays well in his own end. The Habs had quite a few young LD, so they traded from a position of depth for one where they were lacking. Both Montreal and the Islanders made out well in this deal, IMO.

:thumbu: This about nails it.

Personally I have nothing with either Montreal or Chicago. At the time I already thought it was a very bad pick, certainly at spot 3.

Just keep being ”delighted” and I will say how I think about it.

Crosby lost all his draws as a rookie and became one of the best in the game. Very few 18-21 year olds dominate the dot.
So Kirby only puts up points on Suzuki’s wing and can’t win a face off to save his life. That makes him a center?

And most centres don’t improve from sub 40% to well over fifty percent in a few years. If you can name an example of that though.

Wow, that is some well distributed ice time.

I don't care if he ends up being a much better Winger than a Center as long as his presence is a plus for the Habs.

He has played mostly on the Suzuki line. He will get time at centre to see if he belongs there. I am sure coaches can improve faceoff work and the Habs have the development staff to do that.

I’d say your takes are a little off. Romanov is playing very solid and is continuing to develop. And rhen saying Dach is “dominant “ is taking it a little too far.

Not entirely sure why this thread is still so active. Seems like a "win" and a "wait" situation. Kirby is fitting in well with the Habs, which may not have happened in Chicago, so a definite win so far, and then the Hawks are just waiting to see how Nazar pans out. Great opportunity for both clubs to walk away happy.

Dach can't even win 40% of his draws. He's a winger.
And that will end up being the issue when the trade is truly judged in 3-4 years. If Dach ends up on the wing, he better be more than a dime a dozen 40-50 point winger, you can sign every July in UFA.

Take nothing away from his start. We’re 1/3rd into the season and he’s made an impact. They didn’t however, trade what in all likelihood is a 7-10 year Top 4 dman who’s still 2 years away from entering his prime, for a wing. They expect him to be a Top 6 C.

So if he never ends up at C, it’ll be questioned over the years unless he consistently ends up being a 65+ point player.

It’s just way to early to know how this all plays out. It could go either way, or end up being great for both the Islanders and the Habs. We just don’t know yet.

4A 0G last 10 games. Seems he has slowed down quite a bit which is probably more realistic to where he will be long term. But I bet Habs fans will say that is an aberration….but not the early points run being an abberation.

The entire team has entered its traditional December Dive...it is kinda like Festivus minus the Feats of Strength. But it leads to more Airing of Grievances;)

Dude please.. nobody said that. I literally talk about Chicago. Can’t you just understand that phrase..

Anyhow, if that is all that matters, than why keep quoting people who think otherwise.

Cheers and merry x-mas already.
