For all the laughing by Montreal fans for Carolina trading late pick for KK to see them trade 13th overall for Dach.

Feels good
Kotkaniemi sucks though.. he has very little offensive skill, that’s the difference. Dvorak is much better than KK. Bambiniemi can’t even skate without falling constantly.

Feels great to have Dach

There is no such thing as untouchable, as has been proven time and again. Anyone that claims a player is, doesn't know the history of the game. And anyone that claims a 2nd round pick with zero offense and questionable defense is untouchable is just being a fanboy.

I was shocked by the trade, came out of the blue, but come on.

When anyone uses the term "untouchable" it goes without saying that it doesn't include scenarios where a large overpay is being offered,

Lol, you might have missed a few subtle differences between both situations...

1. They aren't paying Dach over 6M dollars next year.
2. They probably aren't planning to offer him an 8 year/36 million contract in a few months.
3. Last but not least, they aren't going to play Dach 10 minutes per game on the 4th line,
Yes, but,

1) Kotkaniemi is a solid NHL player whom the Canes did not have to sign to any extension, let alone one at max term at a high price tag, but did because he's worked out reasonably well for them. They knew what they were getting.

2) Kotkaniemi has been better than Dach at every stage of their careers in the NHL because-

3) Dach is a complete bust who can't play centre, uses his size less that Kotkaniemi, and will wash out of the NHL after getting far too many chances due to his "potential."

In fairness, I saw a lot of "how can we get another top 5/10/15 pick without touching Suzuki, Caufield or Romanov" ? Ie, people didn't want to trade him, but that's not quite the same as saying someone is untouchable.

Still baffled at people coming in here mocking and trolling habs fans about Kotkaniemi when in reality the ratio was 5/1 in favor of Canes fans bashing us lol.

Ah yes KK has worked out so well by being 13th in points on the Canes and his 0g 2a in 14 playoff games. Dach at least has the excuse of coming back from a big injury and being on a crap team, not to mention being a year younger.

I certainly won't predict that Dach will be better than KK or not, as I've personally seen very little from him but clearly someone on the Habs management team saw potential there. And whatever happens, we wont be on the hook for KK's anchor of a contract for the next 8 years.

Hmmmm KK a solid NHL player? I have seen more than enough and also I watched over 30+ games of the Canes this season + playoffs and I honestly never notice him, it’s even worse than in MTL where he had few flashes. KK has close to no offensive potential. Dach is also just 21 years old and has a much higher upside offensively.

KK is a complete dud offensively. Carolina will regret the contract they gave him. He’s worth like 2.5 million for the bottom 6. His shot is too slow to be effective, his skating is just as bad as his rookie season. That’s what Carolina gets for stealing him from us. They could have added a top 6 player with that 6.1 million and maybe made it further in the playoffs, and they would have still had their 1st round pick which they could have used to draft a better player. What a gigantic failure by Carolina. It’s comical. KK would have got a bridge deal from us for maybe 2.5 million at the most

The KK bashing is stupid imo, he had an injury but given his TOI before the injury he was on pace for a career year. People saying they watch hockey but still came to the conclusion he has no offensive upside, wow.:eek3:

So the difference between acquiring Dach or Debrincat boils down to a mere second round pick. Mind-boggling.
And the upcoming cap hit for Debrincat.

If Dach becomes a 2C the Habs win this trade. If not, then it was wasted.

Romanov will be a solid #4 dman for a decade. Nothing more, nothing less.
This is basically the thread. Time will tell.

Well because he hasn't at least not in PPG just to start with.

Dach still can hit his no.1 center ceiling. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up better than Suzuki.

His skating is bad, his shot release is one of the slowest in the NHL, he hasn’t progressed since his rookie year. He’s never shown us that he can create offence, most of his goals are from being in front of the net. His attitude was bad too, putting up the 4 fingers in the playoffs etc. It’s not bashing it’s facts.

it seems highly unlikely he would end up better then Suzuki imo, what are you basing that on?

total BS, he has progresses, in 66 games he set a career high in goals, how many would he have scored if he stayed healthy all season? What's wrong with him putting up 4 fingers, his coach benched because the coach was terrible at his job and it cost him his job along with the guy that hired him.

It’s the attitude, the 4 fingers is disrespectful to the organization. When you’re a young player especially, you shouldn’t be creating waves. I didn’t like when he put up 4 fingers I thought that was classless and something an immature person would do.

How many goals in the playoffs? He was literally useless. 0 goals. They could have used that 6.1 million much better.

he was out with an injury, maybe it was bothering him? He was very good in the playoffs for the Habs so it's not like when healthy he hasn't shown he can score goals in the NHL playoffs.

Suzuki is extremely underrated on this board because there's a huge fixation on 70 or 80 points as a mythical barrier to cross as if situation/usage/quality of team doesn't impact those things.

I don’t remember him doing much to wow us offensively, I mean, every dog has his day, but I remember mostly rebound goals from him, a couple nice shots maybe, but I don’t remember him creating much offence.

Far too many chances? He's 21 lol

bambi eh? guess he was the lion king when he donned red blue and white huh
No he’s always been Bambiniemi to us since day one because he’s like Bambi on ice falling constantly.
