We wanted talent, we got talent. As far as pure offensive skill goes he was probably the best available today. I don't know the details about all the off-ice stuff, but hopefully that's behind him now.

As an Avs fan, i'm jealous. Would've loved Rads at that price.

Good for Montreal, but you have to wonder why he chose Montreal of all places with Therrien and MB there.

He likes the city for him and his family. He mentioned that often during his conference call.

Could it be because of Weber?

He also played his junior hockey here. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Doubt MB and Therrien are a deterrent. I think that's made up mostly by fans.

No not because of Weber. He was asked during the conference if Weber influenced his decision, he said he didn't even have his contact so he didn't speak to him.

Played his junior hockey in Quebec City, probably liked his experience.

Makes sense. I would've just thought after all his past antics, he would've wanted somewhere a bit more low key than Montreal. That obviously wasn't the case!

Yeah I'm listening to that now actually.

I like what I'm hearing. Very candid and honest. Saying all the right things.

This guy could be money in Mtl.

There's a lot of jealousy and idiocy coming from some posters in this thread. Comparing Radulov to Semin makes zero sense. Semin had been a washed up sniper for a few years already when Bergevin picked him up. Meanwhile, Radulov has been the best player in the KHL for the past few years. Come on people!

As a big fan of Radulov when he was playing in the Q, I really couldn't wait to see him back in the NHL. He has matured and become a father. He will be a perfect fit for the Habs who have been looking for skilled wingers for a while. I am actually surprised they got him.

3 years old video. Radulov really looks like a changed man these days, but he has the hot temper so never knows.

Helluva player though and it's only 1 year deal if it doesn't work.
True but what if it works! Can the Habs offer, say in feb, a contract extension with a raise? What are the rules on that?

They can extend him any time they want from now to next July 1st. If I'm not mistaken, free agents can officially sign an extension exactly 1 year before they become free agents. For example, Price will be a UFA on July 1st 2018. So as of July 1st 2017, Habs can extend him.

A reporter asked Bergevin if Radulov works out, he can ask for a raise next year. Bergevin smiled and said it's a good problem to have.

Bergevin said he told Radulov he is only offering 1 year (he had 2-year and 3-year deals on the table as well). It was one year for various reasons: 1) show me you've changed because we know on the ice, you're incredible and 2) he didn't want to commit long-term because he didn't want to box out the young prospects from establishing their place on the team.

Good which means Datsyuk will be best player in KHL now at 38. Lol. So basically both league's did the Rusky swap.

Good signing for Montreal.

There sure are a lot of people in here who posted some variation of "derp Bergevin traded PK because of character issues, but he signed Radulov derp."

I know, I was initially shocked with the Subban trade, but I'm already past it. And Subban and Radulov are two different situations.

If Subban being bad in the room is true, the Habs knew about it for a fact and had him for another 6 years with a NMC kicking in today. Before the control goes completely to Subban, they moved him.

Radulov has his reputation, but Habs did their due diligence. MB spoke to Weber, Shea gave him his blessing. MB spoke with Sergei Federov (Rads' GM in KHL) gave him nothing but positive feedback. And what his reputation is hung on is something he did nearly 5 years ago. He's married with a child and that changes a man. But that's why Bergevin was adamant on only offering a 1-year.

1-year on a guy at 5.75M is easier to deal with than 6-years on a guy at 9M with a NMC.
