These narratives are brutally painful.

It is funny how quickly the tune changed from some of the Leafers on this forum, from "Omgz everyone, the league is so totally out to get us :scared:", to "hahaha suck it losers we're 4-0! :scared:"

Also, I get that it was a holiday weekend and everything but Rielly's appeal meeting was what, five days ago? How hard is it for the league to release an update? It's ridiculous how slow they are.

The whole process is stupid. Didn't Spezza's suspension get reduced AFTER he had already served it?

Can't remember, but I'm willing to bet the league knew the outcome of Rielly's appeal by Saturday at the latest.

Hell, they probably knew it before he even filed the appeal.

But now they're willingly refusing to provide an update, and only they know why. :dunno:

Why can’t fans be impartial for a second. Would you be defending this if for whatever reason Marner or Nylander or Matthews got attacked in a similar fashion after scoring? Hell no. These kinds of incidents need to be punished harshly, not more lightly. If Rielly was offended by the clapper, fine, but why go so high with your stick?

If he dropped his gloves, or checked him into the boards nobody would have an issue with it. He'd get a penalty, maybe a major. End of the story.

You're totally right. Going high with the stick is a reckless move and is deserving of the punishment he got.

Grieg knew what he was doing and tried to stir the pot. He definitely deserved retaliation, Rielly just went way too far with it.

Didn't the league also leak the suspension through a reporter?.

Matthews, Marner, Nylander aren't dumb enough to do something like this, it's only some dusty 3rd/4th line plug that does nonsense like this.

Anybody that has played Hockey at any decent level knows all teams would've responded the same way.

Not even remotely close to as bad as what Grieg did and yet Crosby of all people goes after him.

You really think this whole ordeal didnt have an influence on the team at all?
The stats certainly look like they've hammered down in effort in those 4 games. Obviously they have outscored the opposition 21 - 8 but they have also outshot them 121 - 89. Interestingly there are some stats which tend to be higher for the losing team because they are chasing the game (like hits) but they also won the hits battle 160-158, blocked shots 72-50 and takeaways 43 - 28.

He will accept. Even after appealing.

And you can say all you want about how Grieg is seen by all his colleagues. You know I’m right. It’s a no no. And for some reason that bugs you. Maybe you’d be the type that acts like a dickhead and then whines when you’re called out for it.

Ok lol

Lol Ridley Greig will be a captain or at least an assistant before his NHL career is done.

Every NHL team would love to have him. That's how he is seen.

Appropriate response would've been bumping himlike that, or face washing him, or a small time slash to respectable spot - you shouldn't use your stick like that with the potential of hitting them in the face for a small act of showboating.

So teams would have responded the same way, yet you link a video showing Crosby giving Zegras a bump. I'm not sure that's the gotcha you think it is.

I'm clearly biased but the Zegras play was way more reckless and careless than what Greig did.

No surprise here - this from a bush league commish and terrible process for handing out discipline.

It’s literally a joke to knowledgeable hockey fans/people.

This is not a cross-check to the head. Sid was smart enough to not do that.

If that is all Reilly did to Grieg, he wouldn't be suspended. Again, what Greig did is irrelevant. The suspension has everything to do with a cross-check to the head of an unsuspecting player after the whistle. The end.

Perfect. Rest him up for the tough part of the schedule.

Anyone who thought the Leafs weren’t coming out better for this was sorely mistaken. Sorry the highlight of your season was over quick Ottawa.
