Dumb play. Love Reilly, but no place in the game for this. 2+ games is an easy call... but parros gets a hard on whenever a leaf is up for suspension. Everyone should expect a ludicrous length of games missed.

I need you to take about 20% off of that sir
Getting too worked up.
The lesson he learned is about showboating. There are vets like Giroux who probably talked to him.
fragile bunch them Leafs are, wonder how many Psychologists need to be added to Torontos payroll.

Rielly is the one who will learn the lesson. Don't have a tantrum over something within the rules and get a lengthy suspension. Ridley goaded him successfully.
sure he was goaded, but Grieg was 100% told it was a d bag move

Possibly the worst take yet. Get bent Biron. Immediately launches in to, "you can see he went for the shoulder and Greig put his arm up"

followed by...

"But this is just a big no no" about Greig's slapshot.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills watching this shit. Do you mouthwash after you gargle on their balls Biron? Jesus H Christ, this is a former player, that didn't even play for the Leafs. Is this shit literally written in to their contracts or something? Just beyond awful for a take on this. Shameful really.

A DELIBERATE CROSS CHECK TO THE HEAD THAT CONNECTED, AFTER THE GAME WAS OVER, IS THE ONLY THING THEY SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT.

Guys can dance around like they're Theo Fleury scoring the winner, but a clapper in to an empty netter broke the code? Go cover for Hockey Canada a little more you blokes.

This should shut up every code person

I don’t think anyone remembers anything from 3 weeks ago let alone something 30 years ago.

Maybe you can shed some light why Turgeon was hit after a breakaway goal and why the league gave such a long suspension.

Context matters; just like any cross check to the head is not the same as others.

you fight in your class. it would be nice if they both fought an equivalent opponent.
Rielly is a 225 pound league vet. He crosschecked a 185 pound rookie in the head well after the play. According to the code he will have to fight the biggest goon the Sens can bring next time these teams play. We will see if he respects the code both ways.

We'll have to see what happens. Ridley will likely do shit like this many times again against other teams. And I'm betting others, including Rielly, won't respond like he did.

- 5 seconds left in the game. Leafs losing 4-3 at that point.
- Greig skates alone towards the empty net and slapshots the puck.
- A sore Morgan Rielly proceeds to crosscheck him in the head.

5 games supension or more?

Dillon got 3 games for Acciari running into his shoulder because Dillon's arm came up. This had a whole lot more intent, and wasn't remotely close to being a hockey play.

What should it be? 5 games minimum, probably more.

What will it be? I'll be shocked if it's even 3 games, because of ... the code.

Goes to show you what a scam positions like this are. They probably have to watch the entire game back twice to see if Greig did anything else to warrant being cheapshotted.

NHL suspensions are a joke and this just further proves it.
Yup. Dillion from the Jets received 3 games for mistiming a hit where the opposing player entered the o zone with his head down, and sticking his neck and head straight out like an ostrich. It was a hockey play gone wrong, and happened in a split second. Argument was Dillion hit nothing but head. Same exact thing can be said here, nothing but head. Difference is it was well after the play and the play was blown dead, on an unsuspecting player, at the end of a game.

Lots of parallels in the defense of Reilly to those used by Perron in his appeal to the 6 games suspension he got, worth a read if you want to see the thought process they might go through.

Any variation to how Perron was treated will likely draw scrutiny for inconsistent application given that the Perron incident happen this year as well. I'm sure Perron will be first in line to say wtf if Reilly gets off with less.
Perron’s attack was very similar. But the most similar one is the Hunter attack on Turgeon. Except Hunter didn’t target the head with a cross check.
I’d have to go look at it because I haven’t seen it but for better or for worse I doubt the nhl use a 30 year old incident for this one. They more likely base it off of current suspensions around him
agreed. The Perron attack on Zub will be their current comparable. So five or six games.

I would slap shot the ENG in my shitty minor leagues to say “f*** you” if I felt the other team were POS’s. Was always ready afterwards because it really did piss people off and I was full of teen angst back then.

Greig will know not to practice his slapper on the empty nets next time. Unless he is against the Leafs and knows it will draw suspension for Reilly!

I've played beer league on multiple teams at a time for over a decade, summer and winter.

I've seen plenty of slapshots into empty nets.

So lying by omission/deception? Sure you see slapshots into empty nets, when there's traffic by skaters to get it through or when a player is down the ice.

But not on breakways 3 feet out with nobody around...it's stupid that it has to be said that it doesn't and you're really trying to argue for it being a thing.

Im not arguing whether it should garner a reaction like Reilly's, simply saying it will in beer league or other levels.

People don’t remember this from 30 years ago just like the code which doesn’t exist.
