Lots of parallels in the defense of Reilly to those used by Perron in his appeal to the 6 games suspension he got, worth a read if you want to see the thought process they might go through.

Any variation to how Perron was treated will likely draw scrutiny for inconsistent application given that the Perron incident happen this year as well. I'm sure Perron will be first in line to say wtf if Reilly gets off with less.

looking at the andersson one, Laine was attempting a shot and andersson went high on an unexpecting guy there. I guess happening in play you could try to go the route that he was just trying to stop the play and f***ed up whereas this play and perrons, the intent is obvious

I still think the outcome of that hit was pretty nasty and that has to count for something too. He got all head just like Rielly with greig

I wonder if provocation is taken into any consideration, against the “code” or not Grieg knew that would’ve provoked a leafs player so I wonder if that’s taken into consideration at all, perrons was thinking he was sticking up for a teammate after a weird scuffle happened

Kinda grasping at straws above, but idk I think it falls in between both of them
I just watched the Hunter one from 30 years ago and he didn’t cross check the head.

what lesson did he learn? the lesson that Morgan Rielly is a savage and does not respect his working colleagues, does not have any self settling techniques at all and chooses to use a weapon and intend to injure a person all because his team and he sucked balls and let Grieg and Ottawa score a goal? Morgan is the one that will be taught a lesson IMO. Anything less than 15 games is an absolute joke but that is what the NHL and the DOPS is...A joke...
I need you to take about 20% off of that sir
Getting too worked up.
The lesson he learned is about showboating. There are vets like Giroux who probably talked to him.

Serious question for the novice hockey fans who don’t see anything wrong with Grieg unloading “a clapper” five feet away from an empty net - - why do you suppose we don’t see more players taking “a clapper” like that on empty net breakaways?
Because their stick could break and they would look like an asshole.

The argument is that is showboating. You see similar things in other sports. In baseball you aren't supposed to hit a homer to run up the score.

I find these types of unwritten rules silly.
I agree. It’s just a bunch of fragile egos, that’s literally all it is. They can’t handle their egos being hurt a little so the reaction is anger and assault.
There is a few I understand like don’t take shots at the goalie after the whistle or shit like that but. Like damn, the net is empty. The goal is being scored, why does it matter to their fragile egos if it’s a clapper, a wrister, or he skates it right in.

I’d have to go look at it because I haven’t seen it but for better or for worse I doubt the nhl use a 30 year old incident for this one. They more likely base it off of current suspensions around him

You don’t have to showboat. You can of course, but people shouldn’t be surprised that some teams/players will make you pay for it. Not saying it is right or wrong, but it’s not surprising to see. Other teams would likely have piled on the guy.
So then start a scrum, drop gloves, get in his face. Make him pay. Don’t cross-check him in the head.

I can assure you he will never do that again

Hahahaha you do not know Greig.

He just trolled the shit out of Rielly, the Leafs, and apparently their whole fanbase.

He just realized how easy it is to get a rise out of Rielly. He literally got the reaction he wanted the most.

Gets a 5 min pp (too bad it was the end of the game) and gets Rielly likely suspended and hurts the Leafs playoff chances and likely makes Rielly forfeit 6 figures in salary.

Ridley is laughing here. He does this 10 times out of 10. Especially now.

I found this part real interesting

"First, the four (4) game suspension of Mr. Kadri can hardly be considered to have been
“effective” within the meaning of Article 18.2. A primary purpose of discipline is to change
behavior. Mr. Kadri, however, was suspended three more times following his four (4) game
suspension in 2016. As Mr. Parros noted in his testimony, the 2016 suspension was clearly not
“effective.” (Tr. 60.)"

AKA repeat offenders make everyone's suspensions longer.

Perron did have some history though (a fine... I think?)?

Taking a slapper on an empty net is rubbing salt a little bit, and worthy of a face wash in retribution. A crosscheck to the head is far overboard and Reilly should be suspended.

Whats more, according to the "code" that people defending Rielly bring up. Rielly will have to fight the biggest guy the Sens can bring into a game next time these teams play each other.
you fight in your class. it would be nice if they both fought an equivalent opponent.
