Like people just say “it’s the code”. But like seriously. What is the actual problem with the slapshot? No one can explain that other than “it’s the code”
You think this is a slap shot issue?

I just watched the Hunter one from 30 years ago and he didn’t cross check the head.looking at the andersson one, Laine was attempting a shot and andersson went high on an unexpecting guy there. I guess happening in play you could try to go the route that he was just trying to stop the play and f***ed up whereas this play and perrons, the intent is obvious
I still think the outcome of that hit was pretty nasty and that has to count for something too. He got all head just like Rielly with greig
I wonder if provocation is taken into any consideration, against the “code” or not Grieg knew that would’ve provoked a leafs player so I wonder if that’s taken into consideration at all, perrons was thinking he was sticking up for a teammate after a weird scuffle happened
Kinda grasping at straws above, but idk I think it falls in between both of them
Your trash ass post is an embarrassment to all hockey chat sites. The Leafs are an embarrassment to the game of hockey.
Even you don't believe Rielly will only get a fine because he plays for Toronto.ah yeah, being happy over a win is only something Canada is allowed to.
Reilly will only get a fine because he plays for Toronto.
I need you to take about 20% off of that sirwhat lesson did he learn? the lesson that Morgan Rielly is a savage and does not respect his working colleagues, does not have any self settling techniques at all and chooses to use a weapon and intend to injure a person all because his team and he sucked balls and let Grieg and Ottawa score a goal? Morgan is the one that will be taught a lesson IMO. Anything less than 15 games is an absolute joke but that is what the NHL and the DOPS is...A joke...
Because their stick could break and they would look like an asshole.Serious question for the novice hockey fans who don’t see anything wrong with Grieg unloading “a clapper” five feet away from an empty net - - why do you suppose we don’t see more players taking “a clapper” like that on empty net breakaways?
I agree. It’s just a bunch of fragile egos, that’s literally all it is. They can’t handle their egos being hurt a little so the reaction is anger and assault. The argument is that is showboating. You see similar things in other sports. In baseball you aren't supposed to hit a homer to run up the score.
I find these types of unwritten rules silly.
I’d have to go look at it because I haven’t seen it but for better or for worse I doubt the nhl use a 30 year old incident for this one. They more likely base it off of current suspensions around himI just watched the Hunter one from 30 years ago and he didn’t cross check the head.
In fairness....Rieilly had excellent gap control after the puck went in the net. He really closed the distance between them after the play was dead and over!
Then what’s the issue, him scoring the empty net goal? What’s the horrible thing that Grieg did that warranted a reaction at all. Oh no, he sealed the game, he needs to be taught a lesson. You think this is a slap shot issue?
So then start a scrum, drop gloves, get in his face. Make him pay. Don’t cross-check him in the head. You don’t have to showboat. You can of course, but people shouldn’t be surprised that some teams/players will make you pay for it. Not saying it is right or wrong, but it’s not surprising to see. Other teams would likely have piled on the guy.
I can assure you he will never do that again
I found this part real interestingLots of parallels in the defense of Reilly to those used by Perron in his appeal to the 6 games suspension he got, worth a read if you want to see the thought process they might go through.
Any variation to how Perron was treated will likely draw scrutiny for inconsistent application given that the Perron incident happen this year as well. I'm sure Perron will be first in line to say wtf if Reilly gets off with less.
the point isn't how they react its the question of will they react?I promise you other teams won't be stupid enough to crosscheck from behind and take a lengthy suspension. Goaded.
Perron did have some history though (a fine... I think?)?Lots of parallels in the defense of Reilly to those used by Perron in his appeal to the 6 games suspension he got, worth a read if you want to see the thought process they might go through.

Every sport has this. Remember Dallas losing their minds when T.O. stood on the star after scoring?
He should have signed with a different team.He should have fought him but chose to cross check him in the head.
you fight in your class. it would be nice if they both fought an equivalent opponent.Taking a slapper on an empty net is rubbing salt a little bit, and worthy of a face wash in retribution. A crosscheck to the head is far overboard and Reilly should be suspended.
Whats more, according to the "code" that people defending Rielly bring up. Rielly will have to fight the biggest guy the Sens can bring into a game next time these teams play each other.
Rielly is the one who will learn the lesson. Don't have a tantrum over something within the rules and get a lengthy suspension. Ridley goaded him successfully.I need you to take about 20% off of that sir
Getting too worked up.
The lesson he learned is about showboating. There are vets like Giroux who probably talked to him.
I’m not sure an image and following clown show better encapsulates Toronto.
