Serious question for the novice hockey fans who don’t see anything wrong with Grieg unloading “a clapper” five feet away from an empty net - - why do you suppose we don’t see more players taking “a clapper” like that on empty net breakaways?
When I asked that the response I got was it happens all the time, hell even sens defencemen take clappers into the empty net

Yet I wasn’t given an actual game or video to see it, so they were probably full of shit

They probably didn’t get high sticked in the head by McCabe the previous shift, with no call, as HNIC pointed out post game.
There’s your answer novice.

Series question for the grumpy hockey fans who see a problem with it? Why does it fricken matter?

sure, no he should pay the price of his actions which should be a very lengthy suspension

good to hear, too bad so many folks out there think Morgan not only did not do anything wrong but some are actually applauding his actions...what a sick, sick world it is
I think he gets 5. My gut says its a phone hearing, everyone loses their minds, and then he gets 5.
I feel its important to make the distinction between the people that feel a reaction was justified and those that feel that reaction was ok.

Also its kind of a bummer so many are unfamiliar with the code. That "code" is synonymous with Canadian identity.
Canadians are very polite, till we're disrespected.

Not that I don’t think Rielly deserves a suspension, he does, but is there any precedence for a player with no DoPS history getting > 5 games as their first and only suspension?
Perron seems like a pretty good companion, he had no suspension in 1000+ Ganes and got 6 for a pretty similar crosscheck.

I mean, there was recently a very good case for giving more than 5 game to a first-time suspendee, and the said player (Brandon Gallagher) ended up with 5 games for a hit that arguably warranted more.

But that hit also happened while the play was alive as opposed to dead. And then, there's also Perron, who got 6 games for a play that's much easily comparable.

It was a teaching moment. Typically they happen in practice so that's why it was so rare.

Wait for the audio to come out: "See Morgan? This is how you angrily slap the puck in your own net after you blow coverage in overtime on the series clinching goal by the other team. You've done it a lot but lets work on your form because you will continue to do it for another ~5 years or so".

Ah, the old f*** around and find out special.

Greig: f***ed around
Also Greig: Found out

I have no problem with Reilly's reaction. That was a bush league move by a borderline NHL player

I DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY HE PUT THE PUCK INTO THE EMPTY NET!!!!

WHY DID HE HAVE TO PUT THE PUCK INTO THE NET LIKE THAT????

WHEN YOU HAVE AN EMPTY NET YOU SHOULDN'T TAKE HARD SHOTS!!!!!

IF YOU HIT THE PUCK HARD INTO AN EMPTY NET THEN YOU BETTER f***ING WATCH BUDDY!!!!

Agree 100% - - there’s nothing wrong with showboating and trying to embarrass the opponent.

Just understand that there’s going to be retaliation and repercussions for doing so.
no problem as long as they are within the rules of the game and not a criminal act with intent to injure an unsuspecting person after the play was LONG finished... Morgan should be made an example of here 15 games minimum

For sure some of us here hate the lack of consistency in the how the league suspends players. If Reilly gets less than five games there will be those here who hate that the league didn’t apply more.
What should get Reilly more games is that the play was dead. Empty net goal and Greig is then by the boards when Reilly makes the cross check. That is Dale Hunter on turgeon territory now.

We’ve had Perron do a cross check to the face and get 6 games, Anderson of cal got 4 this season for a high hit to the head with 3 seconds left.

Should be the 6 that Perron got. Whistle went and play was over as well as the game.

Has to be an in person hearing.

Probably 3-5 games is what I’d say

Perron got 6 and in my opinion I thought that was worse

Andersson got 4 against Laine for headhunting when Laine went for the empty netter and I think that was around the same as this
Wasn’t the Anderson one during play though. What makes the Reilly attack more similar to the Perron one was its very long after the play and to the head of a guy not seeing it coming.

Those responses are from the video gamers who see it “happen all the time” in NHL23 so therefore it must surely apply to actual games.

What's the rule against it?
you dont have to like or even understand hockey culture but it exists. that play is always going to end up in a scrum regardless of the player or teams involved. the only reason for that play is to intentionally antagonize your opponent. im all for the slapshot too but it was a totally cowardly move to run away from the scrum. grieg should have taken that slapper and immediately turned around and faced rielly.

So the proper response to show boating is, assault? Just sounds like immature dudes who can’t handle essentially trash talk.
