I am long past dealing with assholes who resort to violence for stupid shit like this. You want to hit me for a minor disrespect? Sure, go ahead, but you will then get a visit from the police and then my solicitor.

With that said, if Rielly just dropped the gloves and had a scrum/fight then I do not think anyone would be talking about this incident. The issue is the response for something small was completely out of line.
At a Starbucks lineup yes. No one should be throwing punches I agree lol.

In sports though, hockey specifically, it’s usually a good idea for your teeth to be a good sport. Winning or losing.

And ya, he should’ve just jumped him. I think the stick work comes from guys not knowing how to fight anymore to be honest.

That's a good way of putting it - being upset at the bit of emphatic showboating is fine, could almost be applauded given the scrutiny the Leafs are constantly under for how they respond to every little thing. And yet the way it was done was not correctly as you said.

Has anyone whose caught an instigator penalty this year in the final five minutes of play NOT had the automatic game suspension successfully appealed? And if it were to come down to suspension, for a game, then everyone gets the same thing: a response within the context of NHL hockey for someone being a worm (and Greig is a burgeoning worm, he's one of those guys teams love to have and hate to face) with a known punishment at the end of it.
Plus with the Leafs history of just taking crap and doing nothing, I think many of us are just happy with a response in general

No, that's simply not true.

Most fan bases wouldn't be smiling, at all, after a loss.

Even less would be happy they lost and cheap-shotted a guy.

Every other fan base would do this? Do you realize that currently on the Maple Leafs board 56 percent of the responses to the question "Are you happy with Reilly's Response" are Yes? Another 16 percent said the response wasn't strong enough.

72 percent of the fanbase has no issue with this.
Probably the real feeling with Leafs fans (on the Leafs forum) think this was out of character for Mo', but they want to see some push back from the team.

It should be coming from somewhere else. So there's a sense that there is a "soft" problem with the team. Pretty sure everyone can agree on that.

Which decade is that?

One that isn’t in black and white.
6 years ago we lost in the conference finals, and in 2007 in the cup finals.
You guys had a f***ing parade for winning one round in 20 years lmfao

I’ll take shit from 25 other teams before Leafs fans about playoffs. You guys are the gold standard of playoff losers.

That's kind of sad.

You're smiling because your player did something incredibly cowardly and dangerous in a game where your team lost to a total also-ran.

Hey for the Leafs a win is a win, we are talking about a franchise that won their last cup BEFORE humans landed on the moon, they will take their happy little coward victories when they can

Grieg would never square up. Look at how he dropped like he was shot immediately, diving to the ice

We know rats and we know how they act. He isn’t going to answer the bell, he’s a p***y

This is a vet teaching a kid how to act in the NHL

Drop the gloves and start a scrum. That is how to respond. If the Ottawa player turtles, and likely does, it accomplishes the same message.

I guess you have to hang your hat on it. Your team won't sniff the playoffs under its current leadership.

Sens fans can't even fill their building on a good night, and you want to talk losers...

god forbid a team with the reputation of just taking shit, stands up and dishes some out.

If you think that the crosschecking an unsuspecting guy in the head is "standing up and dishing it out" there really isn't any conversation to add because I think what he did was incredibly cowardly and I say that as a big fan of Morgan Rielly.

Yeah. Same as any other fanbase. Leafs fans are no different.

During play, absolutely be the aggressor. But attacking a guy, as he skates to the bench after scoring isn’t the right time. And blindsiding a guy with a cross check to the head isn’t “dishing it out”. That’s the cowards’ act. It’s not playing hard nosed winning hockey. Matthews got Dahlin with a cross check to the head, which was a dumb move, but at least it was during play when other players are alert.

I think every one can also agree that there's nothing "tough" about intentionally cross checking your opponent in the head.

What’s clear from this thread is that Leaf fans believe their team to such a massive bunch of underachieving pu**ies that ANY sign of “give a shit” is like water to a man lost in the desert.

The Leafs are a heartless team. It’s been like this for a while.

Mo is generally the one who elavates his game and shows some effort.
While his response his appropriate, it was dumb play to cross check a guy in the head.

No excuse for it any way you cut it.
