It's a pretty typical suburb with household income well above the national average, where about half the kids at the local public HS go directly to a 4-year university, and another 45 % or so go to a 2-year school at which point many of those will transfer to a 4-year university, and then misc. go to trade school/military and a handful into the workforce. He also played on the Mission AAA team where a lot of other future NHL players have passed through.
Wouldn't say he grew up poor/underprivileged or anything.
