Guarantee you Giroux pulled him aside and told him that was the perfect decision in that moment for those fans and the 28th ranked team in the NHL, and not to listen to the talking heads on TV or mentally fragile leafs fans.
I dunno, I am willing to bet he got a talking-to from a few players and maybe the coach.

That's kind of sad.

You're smiling because your player did something incredibly cowardly and dangerous in a game where your team lost to a total also-ran.
Is your avi not the bad guy from Youngblood?

He deserves a suspension, but he didn’t over react.

I’d rather if all 6 skaters on the ice skated by to give the kid a shot in the head

So next time Matthews does his signature hand to the ear to taunt the crowd after a goal, the right response should be to swing the stick right into his mouth hole. That wouldn't be an overreaction according to you.

no. im all for rielly getting the crosschecking penalty. it was a good call. but lets not act like greig didn't wuss out of a scrum he intentionally caused.
Wut?

I get the idea that he caused the scrum but upsetting Reilly, but Wuss out of it? How did he was out of anything?

Imagine being so soft that taking a slap or snapshot into an empty net hurts your feelings, wrist shot or taps in only.

How do people survive their daily lives with this mentality?

I think we're seeing the same thing playing out with Rielly that we saw with Kadri a few years earlier.

The team is so soft and has so little push-back, and actually playing with some toughness and grit is so foreign to these players that when incidents like this happen, they don't know how to respond and they are terrified of being labelled as the guy that just stood there and let something happen without a response so that when, on the rare occasions that the team does try to answer back, it's out of measure and out of proportion.

Cross checking a guy in the head for a "disrespectful" empty net goal is an absolutely insane response. It doesn't make any sense and it's insanely dangerous.

As if I already didnt need more reasons to hate the Leafs, their fans response to this makes it easier.

My favourite gem so far:
"And this loser outpost organization names him player of the game."

Sorry what the f*** have the Leafs accomplished since inspiring 50 mission cap?

I can't wait to see this team play its last game of the year in round 1 again, In'shallah

The Flames, though, reacted in a more “civilized” way than Reilly.

Mo deserves the suspension. It was an over the top reaction. It was appropriate to respond but Mo’s response was excessive.

Leafs needed to wake up and Mo’s is probably more pissed they lost to another crap team.

No the appropriate response would be to shave his head. He is losing that battle with his hairline.

Good point, but:

1. Turgeon actually mattered as a hockey player.
2. Turgeon had a fairly serious injury as a result of the play.
3. Hunter already had a reputation as a borderline dirty player.
4. Turgeon didn’t do something disrespectful (or however you want to phrase it) to instigate. You can argue it a few ways, but Rielly didn’t go after him simply for scoring, but as retaliation for the the way he did it as a nobody in the NHL.

That said, I think he should get 3 games, but this absolutely could be a message-sending suspension like Hunter’s was as well.
Like Reilly is not a nobody:laugh:🤡

We need a smart poster to make a poll on the number of games Reilly will get. I’m saying 5+
I already did the math, but I'm a dumb poster.

1 game max for a clean, highly respected player who did something slightly dumb.

x3 because anything Leafs gets so much media attention it's a great opportunity for DPoS to let it be known they don't take this type of stuff lightly.

3 games. 3 games for Mo' what a load of BS but that is my guess.

Should be a slap on the wrist fine and a written warning, we'll see. But that's my guess.

this may sound silly but I wonder if there is a correlation between age and how you feel about this.
I'm 45 and think a response was justified, but also think the head shot was dirty

I'm well into my 50's and think Rielly is an enormous p***y toddler who should have done what is done within the spirit of the game and started throwing hands instead of hitting a guy in the head with a crosscheck like a punk. Greig is the sort of worm who has been around for ages and the way to show displeasure within the context of the NHL is to (attempt) to knock the hell out of him. And if he takes an instigator, go to the review of it since it was in the last 5 minutes of the game and appeal like so many of them are these days.

But this? This is not it.

I love the whole sequence, although risking a lengthy suspension is dumb by Rielly, just drop the gloves or cross check anywhere else but the head lol..

The Battle of Ontario has been shit for too long. Nice to see some fire back in the series.

Yes, in fact I remember one EXACTLY like this, and it resulted in a 21 game suspension.
I meant in the old Ottawa v Toronto series games. But, yes the Hunter play was similar for sure.
Hard to predict how the league hands out suspensions, but this has to be at minimum five. Imo.

I am thinking they start at 3 and go to 5 due to the Leafs factor

No one gives a f***. You think Leafs fans are like, oh if we behave for a while I think all the other fanbases are going to like us?

Fans have been bitching and whining about the Leafs for decades. Bitching because of start times. Bitching because they put a UoT emergency goalie in for 45 seconds. Bitching because Leafs fans think Matthews is better than Laine. Bitching because the refs have given them the 29th most PP opportunities in the league this year. Bitching because they flew to St.Louis at 11.40pm instead of 12:00am. Bitching because of Kadri, because of Simmonds, because of Spezza, because of Bunting (who now all of a sudden draws penalties again in Carolina). Bitching and whining because the Leafs let players skate on their ice in the summer.

Seriously, who gives a f*** if you pretend to hate them even more now?
