I would say it is old school hockey and older people would say that it's not only appropriate, but needed to be done or the Leafs would be thought as weak and too soft. I'm 56 and I think that Greig provoked the incident by needlessly slapping a shot from the crease into an empty net, that's taunting and only asking for a reaction. If there are any fines or suspensions Greig should be on that list.
I'll be the first to admit that taking a slapper into an empty net isn't nothing and the opposing team will have feelings about it.

Your last line is absolutely ridiculous and stupid and you should be ashamed of yourself.
There's nothing - NOTHING - fineable, suspendable, or worth cross checking someone in the face for it.

What a terrible take

If took a hockey stick and cross checked my neighbor in the face I'd go to jail.

When? During play, maybe? But after a goal when the scorer is skating to his bench for that fist bump thing that’s don’t now? Reilly needs to suck it up. His club is in a playoff race and he’s their most important D. Selfish act.
the video I seen was a poor angle and it happened fast so Im not really sure if he hit him in the shoulder and it went high into his face.

if he just straight up hit him in the head then he should be suspended.

but I still think doing something like that deserves a reaction just maybe not a hit to the head. maybe drop the gloves like a man

I thought it was a funny clapper, and an even funnier crosscheck. Rielly probably shouldn't have hit him in the face with his stick though, that's an easy suspension.

You asked a question, I answered your question. Could you be any more all over the map?
The thread isn’t about me or any other poster. It’s about Reilly cross checking a defenceless player, who was skating back to his bench well after the play, in the head. The league cannot have players behaving like Reilly did. IMO there will be a long suspension. Over 5 games.

I don't care. I'm wondering why they were so sensitive and got their panties up in a twist?

Do you have any idea why they're so sensitive to a slap shot?

Not angry, just very curious.
Your answer lies in asking yourself why he took a slapshot in the first place or conversely why no one else does.

Let’s not exaggerate and get overly dramatic by describing Rielly’s hit as a “cross check to the face.”

If someone received an actual “cross check to the face” there’d be blood everywhere and most likely KTFO’d.

THAT’S a legit “cross check to the face”. Rielly’s hit was nothing more than a shove in the side of the helmet/visor.
You think that makes it sound less bad. Yeah, the cosmetic damage is not as bad as it would be with a stick to the face, but the implications when it comes to a whiplash and concussion is exactly the same.

Grieg’s EN clapper was a ratshit play that deserved a response. Rielly took it too far. As an unbiased observer I say he deserves to sit for 2.
Just out of curiosity can you explain to me how this is different than Perrons crosscheck. He got pissed and crosschecked a player in the head/neck. Same thing happened here.....

Perron got 6....why is this only 2 in your opinion?

Yes, 40 years and counting. 10 of which in junior and semi, first off it wasn't to the head, watch the replay, second Greig had no reason to showboat, you're a last place joke team and you're a rookie, he learned a valuable lesson today.

That it's really easy to get under Reilly's skin and get him suspended?

I would bet if Ridley has an another empty net against Toronto, he does the same shit.

He's an Uber pest. That's this game. Rielly gave into it so wonderfully. Haha

It's hilarious you think this will make Greig not do it again.

To all the Leafs players and fans mad about Greig doing this - easy solution: don’t let Greig have a breakaway with an empty net. Actually beat the team you’re supposed to beat. You guys f***ing suck
your core are all signed long term and still last in the division, been a few years bud. Leafs might suck as well but atleast our team managed to get out of the basement

And Rielly literally skated up to a guy and cross checked him in the face during a goal celebration. Somehow finding a way to justify it.
geez I already think it was justified, no need to sell it to me...

Either you don’t understand nuance or your are being intellectually dishonest.

I understand the game just fine. For everyone here trying to boast that hockey is a tough sport they seem to realise that this reaction to this particular play actually shows the opposite.

This is literally the most harmless slap shot in the game as there is not a single person who can get hit by it. If you do not want someone to putt a slapper into your empty net then play better and not put yourself in the position where you have to pull the goalie.

As a Leafs fan, I’m not the least bit upset or “mad” at Grieg for being a hotdog.

I’m also not the least bit upset or “mad” at Rielly like so many others are.

Except it’s not common. lol.

Slashots are common.

They should be more pissed if their goalie was in net because then it has a chance to hurt someone.

Giroux literally took a Slapshot on a breakaway right infront of the goalie and no one cared.

The Leafs over reacted and cried and now will face punishment.

Maybe next time they won't be so sensitive if they don't want to get suspended.

Taking a shot after the whistle.
slapshot high on a breakaway in a blowout.
...
I can understand such reaction.

Been mad at a player taking a slapshot at an empty net? What a stupid reaction. If anything i would happily let the opposition doing this every single time until a moron miss his shot because of it.

Anyways Its more of an exclamation point for nailing the night for your own team than a disrespect for the opposition. I juste dont see it at all.

Some people in here who didn't live through the real Battle of Ontario in the early 2000s would need a therapist to deal with what happened in the regular season games and playoffs between the leafs and Sens if they can't handle what happened last night. This was just a love tap in comparison

We need a smart poster to make a poll on the number of games Reilly will get. I’m saying 5+

Your answer lies in asking yourself why he took a slapshot in the first place or conversely why no one else does.

Because it’s a home game full of the other teams fans, because he took a beating in front of the net earlier, and because f*** the Leafs.
So far all we have is emotion and a hilarious f*** you to the leaves.

Then we get a Dale Hunter attack on a defenceless player heading back to the bench.

See how those two things are completely different in that one is insulting and the other is a physical assault with a stick to the head?

Reilly upset? Good for him get over there and get in his face and start a fight. Nope just a cowardly attack with a cross check to head - and he should have the book thrown at him.
If you disagree I better not see Marner celebrating like an ass after a goal as if it’s the first time he’s ever scored as he’s won’t to do or I’m sure you’ll be cool with Ridley Greig feeding him his teeth with a stick to the face.
