It really isn’t. The only people who are upset about this are emotionally unstable people who probably go mental when someone calls their mom fat.
a hockey fan who doesn't understand hockey???

Plus this has us all chatting here on a late night/early morning, otherwise this place is a ghost town around this hour, we should approach this with gratitude and savour the moment.

We got some big names live chatting right now from all over the board

pretty sure a reaction like this would happen in every era in the NHL if you take a disrespectful slapshot like that on an empty net. Rielly's reaction is reasonable. maybe get the hit a little lower and I havent seen it in slow motion. for all I know he hit him in the shoulder and it went high

if you wanna do disrespectful shit like that in the NHL be prepared for a reaction.

Leafs fans trying to defend this, while if it was the other way around they’d be screaming for a huge suspension. Just an all around pathetic fan base, and it’s no wonder the rest of the hockey world loves to see them fail time and time again.

I think we need to re-look at our "i-before-e" rules
Perhaps we are all just mispronouncing his name, I before e except after c or when sounded as 'a' as in 'neighbor' and 'weigh'

So.... Ray-lee can't control his emotions and should expect an in person hearing?

apply that same logic to every other fan base, cuz at some point every single one is on either end of something similar

its going to be 4 or 5 for sure, but worth it IMO
the attitude and impact on the room is worth the suspension IMO
How could it be less than Perron, when this is clearly worse? The impact is the same, but the context is much worse here.

Good for Rielly, more Leafs need to give a shit and get pissed off.

Tired of being disrespected? By the worst team in the league, even?

Enjoy your pound of flesh, take a suspension and keep it up until teams stop disrespecting you.

How a last place team can do something like that and thinks it’s cool? Act like you’ve been there before. This is the nhl

So far I haven't seen any Leaf fan say a suspension isn't justified. Simultaneously, they are also pleased someone was made to answer for their behaviour. We are in weird generational times where people think it is OK to throw a jab and then whine and play victim when their jab is met with a swift right hook to the jaw. If you jab, be prepared to get hit.

I mean, the context for Perron is he did it to an innocent bystander. Zub didn't do anything but be in the wrong spot (and seemed concerned for Larkin)

A better football comparison would be having a lead, ball at the opponent's 20, with 5 seconds left, and the other team has no timeouts. A situation where you would kneel down and end the game. Now imagine if you instead fake kneel and then uncork a TD pass. That would probably be equivalent to what he did. That would definitely raise quite a few eyebrows at any level of football.

It’s really more like if he did a flip while cruising into the endzome to seal the game away, and then when heading to the bench a defensive player comes over and cross checks him right in the face.

This is what happens when you try to be a hotdog. Without Sneaky Pete the Islanders were eliminated in the next round.
