I predict the DoPS suspension video won’t even discuss whether or not Reilly’s stick “rode up” Greigs body before hitting his head.

That question will be low down the list in determining the suspension length. I’d guess the DoPS priority order will look something like:

1) Hit happened long after the play was dead.
2) Hit is clearly retaliatory/predatory, especially given the game state.
3) Reilly cross checked Greig in the head.
4) Reilly and Greig were not involved in a scrum prior to the cross check, where the cross check might have been a more “accidental” result of the scrum.
5) Did Reilly intend to cross check Greig in the head or did his stick “ride up” Greig’s hand or shoulder before head contact?

p.s. I’m also expecting someone will think they’re funny and reply with priority X is the Leafs.

Exactly. All these factors are the same as the Perron suspension.

You'll find out soon enough that a two hander to the face is not a hockey play and indeed has no place in the game.

What Greig did is one thing- and it deserved a response, but not that response.

It has nothing at all to do with people needing to move to figure skating, it has everything to do with no matter what happens you're responsible for your actions.

And morgan Rielly is about to receive a 5 game reminder of that.
You'll have none of these worries in singles and pairs figure skating.

Just as it sounds.

A lot of emotion from Sens fans. Look at the title of this thread emotionally declaring a 6 game plus suspension.

Users from every fan base coming in here to label Rielly as dirty or a villain.

Half of the people in this thread are in denial about Grieg.

It's funny, but it's clear that some people should move over to figure skating.
Look at you talking about emotions, the title is pretty matter of fact, the league offered an in person hearing which indicates they are considering 6 games. The only emotions in the title are the ones you bring to it.

The guy crosschecked someone in the head, there's no one needs to label his actions dirty when it's such a straight forward situation.

Meanwhile Greig did something within the rules, that wasn't dangerous, didn't have the potential of hurting anyone, why would anybody be finding something wrong with what he did unless... they were being emotional and his actions made them upset? Yep, the ones being emotional are those that get riled up by breaking the unwritten code of conduct, can't be disrespecting the other team like that you'll hurt their feelings.

Sorry if Greig's actions hurt your delicate sensibilities. I guess you're right, hockey isn't for the faint of heart.

Unless you were George Parros' teammate

Then you get an in-person hearing when it wasn't necessary to have an in-person hearing because you talk about the times you had fun dinners on the road together during the hearing
You're not arguing against anything I said. It's a necessary condition, not a sufficient one. It's not an automatic 6+ game suspension if an in person hearing is offered, but if a 6+ game suspension was doled out an in hearing must have been offered.

Gallagher was invited to an in-person hearing, he declined.

You don't have to attend in-person if you don't want to.
Source on this? Nothing I can find says he declined an in person hearing, they all point to a phone hearing

It's not the goal being defended but the classless way it was scored.
It wasn't classless, except in your opinion. I mean, it's not like he was Trevor Gillies and charged across the ice, intentionally elbowed Eric Tangradi in the head, beat the shit out of him while he was lying on the ice, then stood at the door to the locker room and berated the kid offering to fight some more.

Or, 9 years later, was still proud as hell of what happened and would do it all over again.

I think they will, they did in the Perron video (though in doing so they rejected that it had a significant impact if any) and I think it will be a big part of Rielly's defense.

Excellent reasoning

For all those wondering how much Rielly really cares before hand.

You have no idea what gets said at hearings which will have an affect on suspension length. Obviously a player who believes their poor decision was justified and wants to keep doing it should get a significantly harsher punishment. It make sense the league was waiting for Bunting to slip so they could finally do something to get him to stop.

No, it doesn't. Either a player has a history of documented dangerous play that violated game rules, or they don't. And Bunting prior to his suspension last year didn't.

There's nothing in the league disciplinary rules about a player receiving extra punishment because they're perceived to be annoying (which seems to be how most around here try to justify what happened with him)
