It doesn't. If you accidentally high stick someone you get a penalty. If you accidentally trip someone you get a penalty. Not sure why people are using the stick riding up as a defense. You are responsible for your stick regardless of what happens.
Well, the biggest difference is intent. Still a bad play, but intentionally doing something and accidentally(recklessly) doing it is different; whether you think he did it on purpose or not.

lmao, you guys make it sound like these pro players who have been playing hockey since they were like 4 years old are unable to properly aim their cross checks.

"Stick riding up" is a terrible excuse, and anyone watching it in slow motion can see the point of contact was going head all the way.

This was quite the topic at work today. One of our Oiler faithfuls was 100% on team Rielly, wholeheartedly believed he was well within his right to do that. Was actually a bit more explicit in what he thought Rielly should have done. So anyways, the guy he was taking with comes back with “now you know why Pietrangelo slashed that little bitch Draisaitl.”

Immediate silence after that

Thanks for attending my Ted Talk

To be clear, you're referring to a team with Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi on it? While saying they're incapable of doing something outrageously stupid or absent of tact?

Not sure you wanna die on that hill.
Just didn’t think they would be out there chasing a goal.

Any more classless than sending out PP1 at the end of a game you guys were winning 6-1 vs the Habs? What good for the goose hey
Yes, that would be classless as well. I don't recall it though or the reasoning behind it. That would be on the coach though.

Was the same game the Leafs threw in an EBUG for the final minute. Which again could be considered ‘mocking’ the opppsotion. Those two things happened a few minutes apart and were decided on by the same coach who now all the sudden has his panties twisted over an empty net goal.

lol, what does that even mean? We should look away when a guy two hands someone in the face from here on?
Just as it sounds.

A lot of emotion from Sens fans. Look at the title of this thread emotionally declaring a 6 game plus suspension.

Users from every fan base coming in here to label Rielly as dirty or a villain.

Half of the people in this thread are in denial about Grieg.

It's funny, but it's clear that some people should move over to figure skating.

It’s likely 6, since the most recent precedent was Perron for a head shot.
Just what led to them was different.

Players would understand the EBUG getting his name on the game sheet, nice gesture. Not really close to the same thing.

Emotionally declaring 6 games or using very recent precedent to conclude 6 games? Big difference. Rielly may not be a dirty player, but he initiated a dirty play. Both can be true

He’s neither dirty nor a villain.

He’s an idiot for missing games when he could have just shoved him or punched him or whatever happens in those end of game scrums all the time.

I think it’s a funny exclamation point on the whole affair.

An in person hearing is a necessary condition for a 6+ game suspension. Or in other words, as put in the title, Rielly's in person hearing makes a suspension of 6 games or more possible.

Don't see what's emotional about that. It's simply factual.

Unless you were George Parros' teammate

Then you get an in-person hearing when it wasn't necessary to have an in-person hearing because you talk about the times you had fun dinners on the road together during the hearing

I have no idea how the title of this thread passed, but we can't just say that every play is the same. Every similar incident doesn't deserve the exact same penalty.
