Yes, hockey players famously do not talk trash to each other. It's not like there's a popular term for it.
I mean publicly, for the media and shit. Hockey players trash talk eachother but you really can't hear it. Hockey players are so PR controlled that stupid shit like that slapshot is crossing a line cause its too much of a public show of trash talk.

Mike Johnson summed it up best on Edmonton sports talk. (1:05:25). The Nielson Show - February 12th - Hour 2

1. Greig can do what he wants. You want to piss off the other team, go ahead.
2. Greig should know and expect a response.
3. Greig went down hard because he knew that Rielly did something stupid.
4. Crosscheck to the head is never a valid response.
5. Rielly should and will get suspended.
6. People who think DOPS has it in for the Leafs are incorrect.
Agree, Greig was a douche, deserved some attention. The attention Reilly gave him was stupid/too far and he deserves a suspension. The only debate here should be length of suspension.

I mean it makes sense. NBA players trash talk all the time. Hockey players are all about respect and code and honor. So much less personality is allowed in the sport.
....

god this better be sarcasm
No, I'm saying I have no problem with some sort of response, because responses to similar situations happen all the time in sports. It simply does (maybe not in figure skating tho. Well, maybe once). However, I don't think that the guy should've gotten crosschecked in the head though. My point was simply that Rielly *is* soft , "Lady-Byng candidate" and all, so he's not used to actually hitting anyone so when he tried he f***ed-up and caught the guy in the head.
lol so the angle you're taking here is that Rielly is so soft he just didn't know how to hit right and whiffed it so bad he hit Greig in the head? I like how you say "caught" like it was incidental and not the entire intent of the action from start to finish.

You guys need to stop trying to frame any of this as accidental or not what Rielly intended.

Listening to Friedman now… I have no horse in this race and it doesn’t matter who is being the worm or who is being the dolt, whoever is cross checking someone in the head is clearly in the wrong.

Also greasing the skids about “riding up” yet the side angle that shows it straight to Greig’s face puts his comments in question.

Leafs are the most violent team in league history - suspensions dont lie.
Did you know, since 2009-10 season, the Leafs are not the team with the most suspensions?

Lock in your answers now....

That honor goes to

drum roll

The Flyers, at 30 suspensions.

Washington comes in second at 26 suspensions.

Boston comes in at 3rd with 23 suspensions.

Not to be outdone by the rest of the league, the Leafs come in 4th with 22 suspensions.

Unfortunately, not quite the most violent team, at least in recent league history.

Its the equivalent of a player ripping a bow and arrow past an opposing teams bench after a goal. Its scumbag stuff and plain embarrassing for his teammates.

And yes, every single team in the league responds to something like this. I'll be the first one to say Rielly went overboard with the crosscheck. But every team would respond in some capacity. To say otherwise just shows lack of understanding

I think they would respond. But I think they would do it within the rules of the game....like hit him harder and make sure to finish their next check on him...

Maybe when there's a scrum go to him and gave a few words.

But B-lining it to the player like he hit on your underage daughter just shows a lack of control and restraint.

Weird that he cares more about this than his teammates getting cheap shot with a dangerous play.

Why does this garner more traction from Rielly than his teammate getting checked from behind into the boards, for example?

Over the years he's been on the ice plenty of times the leaf players got targetted in some way or another and never B lined it to go cross check them in the head.

Is Greig THAT good of a pest?

Incredible quote by Keefe.

It's insane that the "OMG leafs #1, rent free!!!!" brain rot has gone beyond just their fanbase and has infected the head coach.
I mean...we're on page 165 of this thread. The Leafs do dominate the minds of a lot of people on this site. So many people whine about all the attention the Leafs get and then can't stop talking about the Leafs. It's bizarre to a lot of us.

No but both things happened 3 minutes apart
I'm aware, but that game was brought up because of the decision to put in an amateur goalie for like 40 seconds. That's how the convo started. It's a stupid thing for people to have been mad about.

I would go watch G’s post game interview
they asked him what he thought.

he said "about the goal or the hit"

they responded with "everything" so he answered for the things he can speak to as a leader and kept his response limited to those things instead of being dragged on twitter for calling out players and the league like Keefe has been.

that interview isn't the "veteran speaks out against rookie breaking the code" gotcha you guys think it is.

I did. Emotional game, sometimes those things happen, and he didn't like seeing Ridley getting crosschecked in the face. Nothing about we don't do that in this league. Don't gimme crap about body language either.

If you Leaf fans haven't figured it out, that slap shot was for all of the blue shirts in attendance. G says as much.

I really hope Greig keeps trolling the Leafs (and other teams, too!) with this. Even fake a slapper and tap it in. The whole city would melt.
I would soo watch the Sens just to see what would happen. The only bummer is they have to be winning to have a chance at an empty net and they don't play the Leafs again this yr.

I think Friedman is a blowhard and an idiot, but I dont think it was a direct straight to the head contact.

When Greig puts his hand out, it clearly comes into contact with the stick or else he hand wouldnt have been pushed back at that moment.

Will be interesting to see what the DOPS see and say, if it did ride up or not.

I made a whole thing earlier about not engaging with Diverting the Subject arguments, so I'm just gonna stick with that tactic.

We're talking about suspensions here. Not penalties.

If you wanna jam on that, @ me with a cogent argument and back it up with the wealth of stats that are available
Lol, suspensions and penaltys go hand in hand young man. Don’t high brow me and pretend like I didn’t make a good point.

Since Parros has been the head of DOPS the leafs have the most suspensions and among the least powerplay opportunities. It’s unfortunate for you, that those literal facts don’t match up with whatever it is that you’re trying to put out as a ‘cogent’, argument.
