He could of easily broke his jaw, and in fact made no attempt not to by deciding to take a hockey stick and two handing it into the side of his head. I call that ‘attempt to injure’. What do you cal it?
He could have but that doesn't mean that was his intent.

Actual Intent to send someone to the IR is rare man. Takes a total scum bag to want to injure someone. You wanna make it hurt but not so bad that they get injured. I'd give even the rattiest players this benefit of the doubt

And a lot of former players, including Senators fan Marc Methot have no problem with what either player did.

A rookie was trying to make a name for himself because he thought he could get away with it. A veteran made him eat a stick for it.

This isn't what happened at all.

Greig was being a pest, and Reilly fell victim to it. He gave Greig exactly what he wanted and more. Greig won, not the other way around.

We're talking about a rivalry game int he regular season where Leafs fans invade the Sens arena, big game feel, and a pest tricks a a star player from the other team into doing something so stupid that it will likely result in a 6+ game suspension. You're trying to make it sound like Reilly taught him a lesson.

The only lesson Reilly taught him was that being a pest pays off big time.

Great point. Rielly isn't Matt Cooke.

Why is a slapshot showboating? It's been a common shot type since at least Boom Boom in the 50s, and has apparently been used as far back as the 30s.

If he Michigan'd? Sure. But it's a slapshot.
Because it's an empty net. It's unnecessary.

Why do players get upset when a player will casually put the puck into the net after the whistle goes? Same thing. Its just unnecessary and seen as disrespect.

The game wasn't over in Rielly's case either. There was still another faceoff.

Perron had 2 aggravating factors:

A history of crosschecking leading to a fine.
Zubb was injured.
Zub wasn't injured. Didn't even miss a shift.

Pays off in what way?

The Senators will still miss the playoffs. The Leafs will still make the playoffs.

The Senators would have won that game regardless if Greig did it or not.

Pepsi needs to get Reilly and Grieg for their next commercial....

Reilly: "that celebration was a little over the top don't you think Ridly?"
Grieg: "no, not really Morgan"

Unfortunately there are Lots of dumb unwritten rules in all sports.

Based on Rielly and Leafs fan reactions, you would think so.
Yeah, an empty net goal by a non playoff team in a regular season game sure is iconic.

And you literally have a Sens fan comparing this to one of the biggest/coolest moments in Canadian sports history, but yes, it's definitely Leafs fans making it iconic lol. Your post doesn't even make sense.

Half of the posts lately are talking about how many posts are in this thread.

None of this would have happened if Rielly had just done what everyone expected him to do which is a punch or a face wash or something.

Ya a Sens fan on Twitter with under 2,000 followers making a meme = iconic. That's the bar, got it.

Let them have their moment.

I bet they have a parade in Byward market tomorrow and raise a banner next home game too.

No one is getting suspended for doing that to Rielly.

Do you know how hard it is to get suspended for some kind of action on a Leafs player?

I kid you not Simmonds got crosschecked in the face proper twice from two different players with a couple of seconds. And there wasn't even a penalty.

Getting suspended for doing that to Reilly? Have a day off.
Another poor victimized reaction...

Lol, now who has delusions of grandeur?
You don't think it's one of the coolest moments in sports in the country? It's regularly on top lists for all time MLB moments/playoff games. Bit of an exaggeration on my part but it was a very big moment. But you're right, the empty netter last night was far more ICONIC.
