I agree.

Though on the other hand, witnessing this already devastated defense without Mo is going to be a majestic sight.

If we win a game I'll be astonished.

Time to see what our AHL defense is made of.
I can actually see it going one of two ways. There might be a galvanizing efect spuring the team to an even greater commitment to team defense or it might completely expose the lack of capable defensive depth on the team and they go on a skid.

If the Leafs collapse because Rielly is suspended I think we need to be talking about Rielly for Hart.

Listen, the kid is pest, I get it. Fact of the matter is he went too far in an emotional game for the sens. He’ll learn from it. Ottawa will be better when he picks his spots better. Guarantee he’s already been told by Giroux, Brady, Jacques or Staios to toe the line in that situation.
He didnt go to far. He pushed the needle a little bit. Happens all the time. The difference is in 99% of cases, you actually get an appropriate response, but Reilly lost his composure and chose to take the cheap shot.

The "code" is being bent here too much, this wasnt some egregious offence, it was pretty flippin mild. And honestly, they filled the Sens barn so I saw it more as clapping back at that than anything.

And a lot of former players, including Senators fan Marc Methot have no problem with what either player did.

A rookie was trying to make a name for himself because he thought he could get away with it. A veteran made him eat a stick for it.

Rielly’s suspension just added to Grieg’s night.

No wonder the Sens players picked him for player of the game.

Really? I thought he needed help off the ice?

I hope this galvanizes the Senators team to make the run at the playoffs this year. They just need to play .750 hockey until the end of the season to get to 95 points.

He really didn't defend himself either. If he raised his stick too, nothing happens. Kinda turtuled. Maybe 2 mins for dive.

2 games MR

Reilly has had many occasions to deliver his tough guy cross check act and never has.
All the leafs have. Where was Rielly all game after Marchand pitchforked their dman right into the IR earlier this season?
Or where was Rielly and his "battle cry" when Bennet knocked their rookie Knies right out of the play offs last spring?
No, Rielly was likey more pissed at his own play in yet another loss to the Sens and used the empty net slapper as an excuse.
Looked out of character for him. Taking his frustration out on the kid.

He took it out on a team that has no chance at matching up against them in the playoffs. Smart move.

And is now gonna get a healthy suspension cuz the meatheads commentating dont decide that cheap shots with the stick are fair game. Lots of reasonable takes out there too.

And hey, maybe they do think its fine, but enjoy the suspension Reilly, because you deserve it. So what good is that? Yay, I maybe, in my own definition of it, won in principle, but just cost my team dearly because I alone couldnt keep my composure.

Its still excusing someone cowardly enough to try to use his stick to get someone back. Use your body. Use your mitts. Not the stick. Never the stick. Doesnt even fit the category of "manning up". Its a cowards move through and through.

Yes, Rielly might have gotten lucky there for his bonehead decision.

However, in Perron’s case the game wasn’t over.

The game wasn't over in Rielly's case either. There was still another faceoff.

Perron had 2 aggravating factors:

A history of crosschecking leading to a fine.
Zubb was injured.
